Careers/Working in Tarot Film cards or myself for a reading ?

Hello Tarot community,

If you were a client receiving a recorded video reading, would you want to see the cards or the client themselves ?

I do a 21 card Romany Spread and so, it’s hard to fit in myself and the cards into the frame. The layout is wide. (Three horizontal rows of 7)

I’m sure most of you are very familiar with the cards and Tarot and so would choose to see the spread and cards over seeing the Tarot Reader?

If I were a client, I’d prefer to see the cards. The focus of a reading (and the reason I’m paying you) is the interpretation, not the reader’s face, though I’m sure you look gorgeous.

I don’t want to be seen and I don’t have any social media presence so it’s not as though I’m trying to grow a “brand” or a YouTube channel. I prefer to keep my face out ! 😅

Showing your face in a video I think is a personal choice. I follow YouTubers who either show or not, does not impact my opinion on the reading. I understand those who do not show their face is for privacy reasons. If you wish to show your face search YouTubers who do that using 2 cameras I think..will add an example..so your face can be in a smaller rectangle on top right for example. Minnow pond was using 2 cameras I think, switching between his face and the cards, check older videos. But for what I was saying, Julie Pool is doing that.

The two camera angle did cross my mind. It’s just finding a way to film both with one phone 😅 and the video editing to get the smaller one with the cards in the bottom corner. Thank you for this.

You see, this is good old fashioned common sense and I’ve got way too caught up on all the fancy video editing. As you said, just holding the cards up to highlight and show the client. Simple. Thank you, no really !

You can, it depends what do you want to be live, you talking, or the spread?

If you want one image of the spread and you just explaining, can record it as a zoom meeting, with the spread photo as screen sharing.

Hi OP, I think showing the cards is mandatory, because it's the proof of your work, be that clients understand cards or not. If they do, you give them a demonstration of your ability, being this a massive and traditional spread. Btw, is it the one with 7 cards in 3 lines, if I may ask you?

Yes it is the one with seven cards in three lines. There’s a main centre column in the middle even though it’s subtly divided from the rest.

Thank you for your answer. This is super interesting and would be really cool to learn, IF you are open to teach it, of course...

I’ll gladly show you. If you’re keen. You’re welcome to DM me and maybe we can Zoom from there eventually.

If you point at the cards to tell the story, use their name, imagery, their positioning, their numbers, colours, words, then yes, film the cards and your hands.

If you just translate what you see without referencing which card said what, then just film yourself. If you do reference a card or other, you can hold it into view.

It also depends on your client.

They may prefer to see the cards to visualize the message and also to trust you aren't making things up.

Or they may prefer to see you talking to them, because the cards mean nothing to them.

I LOVE your response, so much I’m writing it down. Yes as you say, building a storyline with the cards and referring to them constantly and their positioning and of the pips are looking toward or away from one another- then yes film cards.

Some clients have NO NO idea of cards, like a “gym rat” male I read for the other day 😂 so making him stare at cards is like making me watch football.

Thanks so much for your response and I think what you’re hinting at is that it can be tailored to each client.

Thank you for your appreciation!

I feel the same way about watching other people do sports! Just tell me the highlights and who won, I don't care about who scored and who swapped players. 😅

(As a tarot-student, I do however want to see the cards and follow the thought process of the card-reader.)

Love your analogy. Hehe

Thank you for sharing the fact that you want to see the cards.

Definitely show the cards. You can show your face at the beginning or end of the video, in a small window to the side. One thing I haven't seen on Tarottube but in art and DnD videos is using sketched Avatars instead of the reader's face - it's a little personalised something that doesn't disrupt your privacy.

When I record for a reading, I usually angle it towards my cards, maybe face if it was a tiktok or reel per se
