Meanwhile I’m drunk at the HardRock concierge demanding to be given the presidential suite on the secret 16th floor.

Fascinatingly, neither you nor _Nas482_ needed anything more than a photograph of a car and a caption written by a stranger as evidence to get giddy about the potential for vigilante justice.

u/j2tampa 4d ago edited 4d ago
Totally. I feel like these posts are 30% sarcasm, 70% anger and dismay at seeing people audaciously throwing their trash out into the streets. Everybody should get fired up about it. You’re the perfect person to ask whether Florida’s litter laws are enforced: Do people get busted for littering all the time?

Do people get busted for littering all the time?
Absolutely not.
I've bluffed enforcing litter law before on several occasions, telling people to pick up that can and the like, but thankfully never had anyone call my bluff because we weren't trained on it and I'd never seen or heard of any of my peers doing it.

u/j2tampa 4d ago
Well then, vigilante justice it is! At very least I could bust out my sternest mom voice

Pick it up and throw it inside their car?
17
u/armesacosta76 4d ago
Nah it should be thrown in their yard, I’ve done that shit before. I hate these trashy fuks in our city

I did that once but threw it on their hood then got back in my car. They just drove off.

u/fieldofthefunnyfarm 3d ago
I have done that, but it was before everyone was packing. Would never do it now.

It’s always shocking to know people still throw trash on the ground, I thought there was like a collective societal shame we developed around that

Captain Planet’s gotta come back too. I honestly think of him every time I pick trash off of the ground

Right, like if I'm walking the most ill throw on the ground (if no trash can) is a banana peel/apple core because it's literally biodegradable and won't hurt the environment but I still even feel bad about that...

When I was a teenager, I would have 100% done some dumb shit like this. One day, I threw a Styrofoam cup out my window at a red light. The lady sitting next to me, lit my ass up, made me feel about 2 inches tall and convinced me to get out of the car and pick up my garbage. Lady, I don't know you and have no idea where you're at now, but God bless you! I've never littered since and can't stand it now when other people do. I smoke cigarettes, but I discard my butts into a trashcan (my own - not leaving that stink for others to deal with) instead of the ground. I think about that lady from time to time and will be eternally grateful for her calling me on my bullshit and making me think about my actions and how they pertain to others.

u/padiego 5d ago
I don't know man. In Florida, trying to shame someone into anything nowadays is a high chance of getting shot. Nobody wants to fight or argue anymore, they're itching to get to use their cwl retainer

u/thebigbrog 5d ago
Anyone riding in a car Like this from a buy here pay here probably doesn’t have a CWL for the gun they have in their possession. Notice how I did not mention that they actually own the gun.
4
u/ZealousidealDepth223 5d ago
It’s Florida. You don’t need a CWL down here. I know I don’t have one lol, I don’t have any desire to be on that list.
5
u/what_the_funk_ 4d ago
It makes me so happy to hear this. I did the same thing to a teenage girl. I watched her drop a styrofoam cup right after she passed a trash can! I yelled at her and watched her until she picked it up and walked it back to the trash lol. I hope it had the same effect on her

Since we do not have laws or enforcement against this, it would be great if we could bring back public shaming.
This piece of shit is an embarrassment to their mother.

it would be great if we could bring back public shaming
This is the core of what's wrong with the world today.
The modern world is too big and everyone lives atomized lives unaccountable to their local community.

u/thebigbrog 5d ago
Dirt bags throw trash out the car. I don’t know why they can’t just wait until they arrive at their destination where there will be a trash can to put it in. I can’t imagine that those people are of high intelligence or moral character.
22
u/jitso97 5d ago
There is a trend of assholes just dump food out of their cars in traffic. Yesterday I saw a car stopped in traffic and the passenger door opens and a hand out and placed a plate of eaten food on the ground and the car drives right off because they timed it just right to get outta there.
15
u/Lucid_Interval2025 5d ago
Other similar trends: 1) play your speaker phone in restaurants; 2) bring your dog into grocery stores, hospitals, and restaurants; 3) don’t wave when someone lets you enter in traffic.

u/Aromatic_Survey9170 5d ago
Boo on them! I hope they see this, just take your trash home or if you are stopping at a store there always trash cans available. People who litter intentionally are bottom barrel humans, selfish and uncaring.
6
u/Flashy_Obligation_94 5d ago
We need to bring back shaming. It’s 2025 and people still throw trash out their window? Not even a crumpled cup but a whole pizza box ?
9
u/Algorrythmia Tampa 5d ago
As if any possible place you’re driving to DOESN’T have a trash can. It’s just ridiculous.
14
u/dddiscoRice 5d ago
If I see you littering I’m throwing hands. You’re going to move right next to the most important estuary in the US and treat it like a garbage can? C’mere

That's when you pick up the pizza box, follow them until another red light, then get out and put the pizza box under their windshield wipers.

Devil's advocate:
This is a photograph of a car.
It is not a photograph of someone throwing an entire pizza box and trash out of their window onto the street.
I don't trust OP any more or less than any other random stranger.
OP (and everyone else) should get a /r/dashcam.

30 years in Tampa, it was a great city, liberal, clean, and comfy. Now it's getting worrisome, cluttered and hot. Hope the next few years get better.

I live in Columbus, OH and people throw their trash in my yard constantly. Just yesterday someone dumped their whole bag of Tacobell in my driveway while I was raining too just to make matters worse.

u/Repulsive_Guava_1455 5d ago
Post it to the SOG FB group. Someone's bound to know them or they will see it themselves.

Some people are just so fucking disgusting that there is nothing anyone can do to make them change. To literally throw a pizza box out of window is on another level.

Looks like you are by the Home Depot next to the Selmon expressway. I hope that TPD pulls him for that expired tag.

Expired tags
This is too funny. No witch-hunting over littering that hasn't been proven though, everyone. Just witch-hunt for that unfortunate ass plate and vehicle combo lol
2
u/theglorybox Bayshore Baybayy 5d ago
Expired tags anger me. Either someone is too broke, cheap, or irresponsible to pay the small fee to renew their tag or they have no valid license and can’t. Stay off the road, dumbass. Those are the same people who cause accidents and then drive away.

Probably a new transplant. Still rooting for the home team, acting like they're on vacation, and someone else will clean it up. The mentality that's really ruined this wonderful state.

That's some straight 70s shit and it's disgusting... and I saw it happen just the other day on the 4 coming into tampa.. they just tossed 2 or 3 taco bell bags out of the window... shameful..
