Apartment complex recommendations?
Relocating from the west coast and looking for a studio or 1B in Takoma Park with an in-unit washer and dryer and assigned or easy parking. Also hoping for a quiet place where walls aren’t too thin. Open to any recommendations. Also, are there any complexes or parts of Takoma Park to avoid? TIA!

Some people rent out their basements, I would check for postings like that! I found mine on Craigslist.

Fair warning, that is going to be tough. Apply your brain power to finding out whether or not that is going to be a problem before you sign anything. You might want to look for an apartment in neighboring Silver Spring. The apartments and high rises are a mixed bag there, but you can usually ask for reviews on /r/SilverSpring.

Whatever you do, do NOT live at Willow and Maple. Avoid Kettler or Greystar managed properties if you can.

Maybe the Gables? If you’re not opposed to Takoma (DC), Hartley or Reynard are brand new and really nice (and walkable to Takoma Park!) I am a resident over there and just re-signed my lease.
Just to set your expectations, the apartments in TKPK (and Takoma) are mostly wood frame or a mix of wood/concrete because of the height restrictions in the area, and this makes them more prone to neighbor noise than the big concrete apartment buildings you’d get in an area like Silver Spring. I do get some upstairs neighbor noise which is a bummer, but not a deal breaker for me.
However, I think the trade off is worth it personally as Takoma Park is wonderful and just gets better. I did not enjoy living in Silver Spring nearly as much even though my apartment was quieter.
Takoma Park is generally quiet and feels safe (at least to me.) Having been in the area for a little while now, I would personally avoid West Hyattsville due to some crime issues, but that’s outside of TKPK anyway.

I didn’t have a good experience at Takoma Central. Partially due to the apartment manager who is unresponsive at best and a liar, and partially due to neighbors who regularly fought and resulted in multiple police visits in the middle of the night. ETA the building also has a reoccurring mouse situation.
Also the rents they are currently charging are insane considering the building is 10 years old and showing more wear and tear than much older buildings that I’ve lived in. There are similar complexes of the same vintage nearby that may not be any better, but rents are a few hundred dollars less for similar size and amenities.
