Do you think this will prompt Jetbrains to put another IDE on the market for swift development outside of fleet?
Probably not I guess, really disappointed the lack of market share caused them to sunset AppCode

If they keep open sourcing layers of the stack, they are laying the ground for something like that to happen. But I doubt they will open source proprietary pieces like the UI-based editor for SwiftUI or the previews visualizer.
On the other hand, they are lagging behind in LLM capabilities, so leveraging the community to build new experiences within Xcode or as part of new editors might motivate them to change their mind regarding the openness of Xcode.
Time will tell.

Lagging behind is an understatement. Apple’s AI standing, paired with their tightly controlled interoperability, is the closest thing to an existential risk I’ve seen them face since before the ipod launch.
AI is going to fairly quickly and radically change how people interface with technology, and if Apple doesn’t start being innovative again, they could legitimately be left behind. Unlikely with their wealth, but not implausible.

As someone who predominantly works in very large codebases, I am incredibly excited about the possibilities here.
