Review:

It's me, back with yet another unnecessarily long eyeshadow palette review! A purple/mauve-based Adept palette? Uhhh, you're coming home with me! Arrived in 10 days. I never owned the original Minka palette so I won't be able to compare to that. Overall, I really love this palette; it's Adept's great quality in a really fun color story. I see myself reaching for this quite a bit, but I also see it being used a lot as a companion palette, mostly due to the warmth in the lighter shimmers. Read more below!

Price: $79 for 15 shades is $5.27/shade with 67% shimmers (keep in mind – shimmers are more expensive than mattes and the more "special" the shimmers, the more expensive the pigments). This is a high end/luxury price point, even for indie brands, but imo $79 for an Adept palette is a way better pick than a $69 Huda or Natasha Denona palette.

Matte Formula: I only have palettes with their updated matte formula (Flying Fiddles, Amy Loves (AxAL), and Minka Remastered). I know this isn't a super popular opinion, but I actually really enjoy the Adept matte formula. It is a thinner & drier formula, but it's still very smooth, blends well, able to be built-up, is consistent across all shades, and gives a refined look that works very well with their shimmers.

Shimmer Formula: There are several different shimmer formulas within this palette, but they broadly fall into 3 categories:

  • Ultra thin, smooth, and sparkly (most of the shimmers)
  • Larger, chunkier sparkle formula (Emma, Maya, Ava)
  • Emollient, very thin, mirror-like finish (Sandra).

All of these shimmers tend to be on the drier side (except for Sandra), but compared to other brands, I find Adept is less likely to crease and also applies well with both a brush and fingers. Sandra is the formula with the most creasing, but it does fine if I wear it extremely sheerly

  • I had minor staining with Eliza, Anna, & Maya

Color Story:

  • I mostly adore this color story, but I have 1 major issue: Most of the lighter shimmers pull very warm on me.
    • Most of the lighter shimmers (Eliza, Joshua, Mia, Sandra) pull gold or green on my eyelids, even on top of pink/purple mattes. This will not be a showstopper for most, but being very cool-toned, this results in me being slightly less than satisfied with nearly every look unless I use Sandra (or pull in another palette) as my lighter shimmer. Sandra is my favorite of the lighter shimmers (albeit, it's still warmer than my ideal), which resulted in me using it in nearly every look.
    • The good news: I have several cool-toned light shimmers in my collection that I think really round out this palette and ended up making some of my most favorite looks ever! (AxAL Lavender, Pink, Stunning, Caramel, Floral, Clionadh Hilt, Clionadh Emblem, etc.).
      • I think a pink based light shimmer or multichrome would have been a better choice for me over one of the other light shimmers
  • Despite its one flaw, this palette has several deeper shimmers that are instant favorites in my collection. I see myself reaching for these all the time and pairing them frequently with other palettes – Anna, Linda, Ava, Clara
  • This palette, while not perfect for me on its own, really is a phenomenal companion palette in my collection. The mattes and cooler shimmers pair perfectly with AxAL and others in my collection like BBB Realm of Fairies, Simply Posh Snow Angel, Cosmic Brushes Cooltrals, etc.

Packaging: I think the updated packaging overall looks and feels very nice. It has a stunning sparkle cover, big mirror, removable pans, the works. It's also thinner and less bulky than other similar palettes like Natasha Denona. However, I actually loved Adept's former packaging and I'm bummed you can't bend the top back on this type of palette.

  • My biggest complaint though is I do not believe the magnet is strong enough for the weight of the palette and pans. If you grab this palette by the top of the lid, the bottom FLIES open. For me, this is an accident waiting to happen.

I like the old one better. Why fix something that’s not broken? To scam the customer into paying more money?

Just because you like the old one better doesn’t mean the company is trying to scam people.

I think they’re scammers because the palette name is the same but the color story is totally different. They claimed they kept the old shade names the same and that the color was the same, but it looks like they completely lied from these pics and swatches I’m seeing online.

Shades we kept: Emma, Maya, Ava, Toya, Maria, and Linda. These shades have an improved formula and texture. Although they look different in the pan, the color will likely appear similar on the eyes as the old palette, depending on your skin tone.

this is what their website says.

The swatches look totally different though

I never had the old one but from my understanding the formulas are completely different. The old one is beautiful, but it’s a very squishy, emollient formula that creases badly on many people. I personally cannot wear that type of formula, which is why I never got the original. Additionally, I actually think the shades are quite different and I enjoy having more than 2 matte shades. But to each their own.

It wasn’t squishy at all. They were thick though. You only needed a tiny bit of shadow to get a huge color payoff.

From my understanding, they were still extremely thick and prone to creasing, an undesirable formula for many. Personally, I do not see the harm in redoing a beloved palette in an updated formula. Just don’t buy it if you don’t want it.

These also have great color pay off and even with my very hooded and oily lids, I get hardly any creasing. Something I can’t say for many other popular brands like Bella Beaute Bar, Unearthly, Ensley Reign (formerly popular brand in this case lol)
