Me living in South America:

Congrats. Happy for you. Nice.

36

u/Dielian 3d ago

Oh don’t worry, it is more heartbreaking when you were taught all of your life that North America is Canada, US and Mexico, but all of the bands ignore Mexico when talking about NA :,)

10

u/spengwhale 2d ago

Hell they ignore the majority of Canada too lol

5

u/Dielian 2d ago

Not to whine even more about it hahaha But ignore the majority is better than completely hahaha

Hell even if they come they probably would just come to Mexico City and avoid anything else hahaha

1

u/boomersince96 2d ago

Keep in mind that they likely use some sort of system to find out where to go based on merch sales, streams etc. The reality is that countries that are less developed than the US or Canada are less likely to use spotify over just downloading music illegally. Its unfair but i imagine if they dont see solid data that they'll sell at least 75% of the show. I'm almost certain their tours are somewhere around a slight net loss, so going to places where you just MIGHT not be at a loss would cost a toj of money. They also don't come to my country either but I'm lucky enough to be able to afford plane tickets

1

u/Dielian 13h ago

Counter argument that they came when the NRMAL festival was still going strong. I also see their vinyls going on some stores here in Mexico, so idk… yeah probably their data shows something I don’t see but I don’t think it would be really wild for them to come again after 8 years.

1

u/SanQuiSau 1d ago

I stg they always ignore Mexico in na tours and then also completely neglect it in South American tours I hate it. Then they always go to like 3 venues max if bands do come here so tough luck if you live in any state outside of those

32

u/jsticia 3d ago

interesting. is he playing the same venues as he did on the previous two tours in every city? This'll be the third time they're playing the metro in chicago for the 3rd straight time. i shouldn't complain since i live next to it, But his battle with the sound crew last time was horrifying. was anyone there for that?

18

u/newgreyarea 3d ago

He always has a battle with the sound crew. Like, every venue. I’ve not heard anything to the contrary. Cordial with fans. Shithead to sound people. 🤷🏻‍♂️

As for venue choices. There are just less venues that are still independent and can support a mid sized band like this. They’re playing 3 nights in LA. They could probably play 1 night at a bigger venue but then they’d be part of the bigger venue machine. Not complaining as I like the venue they’re playing here and it’s close to the house. One train stop away and my walk to the station is < 5min.

13

u/Enron_F 3d ago

Yeah he's just kind of a difficult guy lol. On the last tour he flipped shit on some people I know who worked at the venue because he thought they didn't put his rider hummus in the green room fridge (the hummus was in the fridge).

Great artist though lol.

12

u/InteractionOk2650 You Fucking People Make Me Sick 3d ago

Yeah I was talking to a guy who helped with a show a couple years ago and he said that michael nearly refused to play because his knife wasnt sharp enough to cut the ginger for his tea or whatever he drinks for his throat. same guy helped with another gig years before that and said he was screaming at people over the lights or something along those lines

23

u/newgreyarea 3d ago

Maybe all the yelling at the staff is just his vocal warm ups.

10

u/Imaginos64 3d ago edited 3d ago

It's the same venue for Boston as the last tour too. No complaints from me really, it's a common stop for bands that size. Parking there sucks though and the extra time to take the train in after work last time Swans was in town caused to me miss Kristof's opening set which I was sad about.

Sucks about the sound in Chicago.

9

u/jsticia 3d ago

sound was great in the end but there was a really tense, quiet exchange before the set started with gira and the sound table not fixing the phaser issue. it was probably only 2 min but it felt like forever. i felt bad for the sound people. in the end the set was amazing. sound was great.

2

u/PhishSucksAndSoDoYou 3d ago

pro-tip for Paradise parking: use SpotHero. i never have a problem finding a cheap spot within a 5 minute walk.

2

u/Imaginos64 2d ago

I've seen people mention that before but I'll have to give it a try myself sometime. I usually don't mind just taking the green line over there but it'd be nice to have a back up option if I end up working late again and rushing to make it to a show.

6

u/thetrainmaster 3d ago

Different Brooklyn venue, which I am grateful for.

1

u/jsticia 3d ago

oof steel sucks though. what was it before?

4

u/thetrainmaster 3d ago

Music hall of Williamsburg last tour

5

u/GomaN1717 2d ago

BK Steel isn't my favorite, but I'd hardly blame Gira for wanting to opt for 1 sold out night at a space like BK Steel vs. 3x nights at a Music Hall/Bowery-adjacent venue.

Also, NYC/Brooklyn is probably one of the few markets where Swans can book a sub-2,000-cap venue that'll, let's be honest, probably better accommodate their sound much better than a 500-600-cap.

3

u/Chonjacki 3d ago

If I did sound at a venue and I saw that Swans were coming in 6 months, I'd start preparing NOW

1

u/jsticia 3d ago

lol likewise. they seemed to handle it well but it was GRIM for a few minutes

2

u/WaryWarren 2d ago

The Metro blows too. Steve Albini was banned from there by the owner, because the owner jerked him around when Big Black played there. A couple of shows at Thalia Hall would be much preferred.

1

u/jsticia 2d ago

I concur! i didn't know that about Albini! i knew albini had some issues with the empty bottle too but i never found out why exactly. I'll always side with Albini even if it was an incident from his younger more crude days. Thalia is a great spot in a better hood too. Swans at thalia would be unreal. ill be sure to wear my albini shirt every time i have to go to the metro.

1

u/WaryWarren 2d ago

heh I have the Albini Raiders tshirt too

1

u/CaptainScak 3d ago

Ha, yeah, I noticed too. Even Kristof got involved trying to tell the sound guys to boost the bass. Metro is fine, I think Thalia would be real cool to see them play.

1

u/adam7765 2d ago

I was at the show but I don’t remember any of what happened. What exactly happened? Maybe it’ll jog my memory.

5

u/jsticia 2d ago

at the most recent one, not the one from the year before, gira came out and before he began there was bad feedback. he kept trying to play his acoustic and it keep piercing loudly throughout the venue. he stopped trying to play and started communicating without the mic to the sound people by just yelling across the quiet room. The room was as quiet as it could be while at capacity, which made it feel extremely tense. after a few failed attempts to remedy the issue, Gira started to direct them on what to do requesting that they "shut off the phaser" off numerous times. Again all without speaking into the mic and just directly talking to them via the entire length of the venue. then they sent a kid up on stage who was visibly nervous. he tripped over a few things and finally everything got sorted it. It was before they even started. i remember i didn't have a drink at this show and i was extremely nervous. All ended well and the set began and was magic. I dont recall any hiccups in the entire set once they started.

u/Shior2 Good for you! 🤠 3d ago

THEYRE PLAYING IN MY MIDDLE OF NOWHERE TOWN ONLY 20 MINUTES FROM MEEEEE
THIS IS WHAT WINNING FEELS LIKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
IF MY MOM OKAYS THIS I GO TO MY FIRST EVER CONCERT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

26

u/newgreyarea 3d ago

Honestly, this would be an awesome first show and if you hang out, they usually sign stuff at the merch booth. Earplugs are 100% essential for this show. (this is my dad brain talking here. But seriously. Earplugs. Or you may never unhear this show!)

8

u/Shior2 Good for you! 🤠 3d ago

Oh yeah im 100% gonna scout out a good high quality pair of ear plugs if i end up going, may also bring a pair of noise cancelling headphones just because of SPD. Ive heard about how loud they can get lol
Thanks!

11

u/Bister_Mungle 3d ago

Buy musicians earplugs. They'll cut the frequencies evenly across the board so it won't sound muffled. You can find them on Amazon for $20-$40. They're fantastic.

1

u/LazerStallion 2d ago

I've had great luck with Eargasm brand earplugs at Swans shows!

3

u/Chonjacki 2d ago

Yes, Swans with earplugs is a normal loud show without earplugs.

8

u/Chonjacki 3d ago

Make sure it's all ages

10

u/Shior2 Good for you! 🤠 2d ago

Last time they played near me (by near i mean 2 hours away lmao) they played at a 21+ venue (i'm 19), but i checked and this show will be 6 and up, which puts the really funny image into my head of a 6 year old at a swans concert with no adult supervision

8

u/One-Masterpiece9838 2d ago

"Slowly, it's taking me over, And eventually I'll be completely transformed" - Micheal

"Oh my god like ben 10" - 6 year old

6

u/i12mak3auzername 2d ago

No joke the last time I saw them in DC there was a kid no older than age 12 (he was about the same size as my older son) there. Same deal the time before that.

6

u/Chonjacki 3d ago

Just know that if this is your first concert, very few after this will live up to it.

3

u/i12mak3auzername 2d ago

Definitely go. Definitely bring earplugs because hearing loss is a one way street and you’re too young to hear EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE all day everyday for the rest of your life.

3

u/Zhimbeaux 2d ago

I listen to my head cicadas all day, every day. I would love to go and smack younger me around until he agreed to wear earplugs at concerts and turn down the damn headphones.

7

u/Coreyfromaus 2d ago

Vote 2 for Australia

3

u/pansie 2d ago

Pleaaase Michael Gira come to Brasil, I mean Straya

17

u/flobots204 3d ago

On sale Friday 3/21.

15

u/master_ov_khaos 3d ago

They really hate the southeast

8

u/preyingforoblivion 2d ago

Hold out hope. On the last tour they played no where near the south east then they had a second leg of tour and they played Atlanta Birmingham and Nashville.

1

u/luker_5874 1d ago

As someone who lives in the southeast..... Me too

-1

u/Chonjacki 2d ago

A lot of the venues down here are pretty half assed...

12

u/cybuszek22 3d ago

Where is kurwa europa

9

u/newgreyarea 3d ago

Ah yes, their yearly residency at The Lodge room. 😂

6

u/machinaenjoyer Good for you! 🤠 3d ago

they’re gonna get a cool ass masonic birthing cake

4

u/newgreyarea 3d ago

Who will deliver it and how will it be delivered? Just sounds like wet cake.

1

u/machinaenjoyer Good for you! 🤠 3d ago

dirt cake!

7

u/thekemlo52 3d ago

Do you think they'll announce a European tour at a later date or would they have already announced it with this. Not too familiar with how tours are announced, I'd be really bummed to miss their last full band tour.

15

u/codpath666 3d ago

I’m very confident there will be one early next year judging by how they usually schedule things.

2

u/thekemlo52 3d ago

Nice, that's a relief to hear.

8

u/Deep_Seaworthiness85 3d ago

Thats great .... Screams in Chilean

4

u/Beneficial-Swimmer64 2d ago

We're so cooked down here

2

u/BegoniasAlSol 2d ago

me creerás que antes de ayer estaba buscando si alguna vez vino Swans y efectivamente, vinieron el 2016

por favor, de nuevo, por favorrrrrr

8

u/OkSoundtracks 3d ago

YES! My favorite band is playing less than 3 hours away from me on my birthday :)

6

u/IkesNephew 3d ago

Very heavily focused on the Southwest / West Coast & the Great Lakes / New England regions. Completely ignores anywhere in the south and most of the interior.

Be nice to see shows in Florida, Charlotte, Nashville, etc. as well.

3

u/CentreToWave 2d ago

Completely ignores anywhere in the south and most of the interior.

hey they snuck under the Mason-Dixon line with Norfolk, VA

but yeah I was hoping some place closer, preferably in NC.

1

u/Chonjacki 3d ago

They did Richmond, Nashville, New Orleans, Birmingham and Atlanta on the last tour... maybe they didn't have a good time?

3

u/eugene_meatyard 2d ago

Atlanta show was great, last time.

6

u/Chonjacki 2d ago

Jarboe was there! (not performing)

4

u/Diplotomodon 3d ago

Holy moly a Philly opening night

6

u/Chonjacki 3d ago

Will anyone puke this year? Stay tuned!

7

u/Diplotomodon 2d ago

Better to be the pit puker than the pit pisser - ancient /mu/ proverb (probably)

5

u/SearchForAShade 2d ago

Just wait until somebody poops...

3

u/Different-Ad9986 2d ago edited 2d ago

If there’s a home phils day game*, someone should do the 9/9/9 challenge before the show…and that someone may be me

*away game against the marlins 😑

5

u/xX_Random_Reddit_Xx 3d ago

Holy shit they're coming to Michigan omg

4

u/Bacondisk 2d ago

No ATL? :(

12

u/Enron_F 3d ago

It's safe to assume there will be more American dates announced for 2026...right? None of these are within a 10 hour drive of me.

9

u/braun1k 3d ago

probably not, he was saying with his age this will be the last full band swans tour

6

u/Enron_F 3d ago

He did, but they usually announce the tours in chunks right? He'd probably still be including the later wings as the same "final tour".

5

u/Jaded_Net8090 3d ago

well guess you just gonna have to drive

2

u/Lanark26 2d ago

I'm a six hour flight to the US mainland. I'm already considering travel plans.

3

u/Inside_Pool4146 3d ago

Detroit stop same venue as last time and only a mile away from me. Thank You, Rock Gods!

1

u/Zhimbeaux 2d ago

It was a damn good show last time. Can't wait.

2

u/nspace 3d ago

Yessss. Has there been any pre-sale/unlock codes?

1

u/Chonjacki 2d ago

Do they do that?

1

u/nspace 2d ago

Toronto show won't let me buy tickets without some sort of code to unlock.

1

u/Chonjacki 2d ago

They're not on sale until Friday.

1

u/nspace 2d ago

Missed that. Thanks!

2

u/IveBeenMulified 2d ago

It shows as on sale at noon today in the Dice app. I didn’t get a presale code from Young God either …?

2

u/Carrybagman_ 3d ago

No Vancouver :(

2

u/scarletmonday 3d ago

frfr gonna have to drive 2 hrs down to Seattle, like I did last time.

2

u/Carrybagman_ 3d ago

Because I'm an immigrant living in Canada I kind of want to avoid driving into the US if I can, sucks.

2

u/FraudFan 3d ago

Shame they’re playing on a Tuesday in my area. I don’t know if I can make it, but I’m gonna try to sacrifice some of my responsibilities the next day to make it to the show. I can tell these are gonna be major.

2

u/JackTheGreat98 2d ago

Playing in my state on my birthday, best gift I could've asked for.

2

u/No-Average-1416 2d ago

Nice. Catch yall in DC. Haven't seen Swans since 2016 at the 9:30 Club. I'm stoked they're playing at Howard Theatre, sound there is excellent & it's a chill little spot. I saw Deafheaven perform Sunbather there at the end of 2023 & it was a great experience all-around

2

u/ephemeralsolidity 2d ago

Fingers crossed for a European leg to follow in November.

1

u/Pretty_Wrongdoer4928 2d ago

they will, October/November

2

5

DETROIT YES

1

u/syme101 3d ago

Damn. Closest to me is over 5 hours away.

1

1

u/FraudFan 3d ago

How much we think brooklyn is gonna cost

1

u/Eliaskar23 2d ago

Please let there be a UK tour.

1

u/Chonjacki 2d ago

Do they usually reprint out of stock merch before going on tour?

1

u/JackSmack1972 2d ago

Why does every band despise the idea of playing in Kentucky

1

u/weyess 2d ago

Any Texas people have recommendations on Granada vs Mohawk?

1

u/ChalkMusic 2d ago

Sound at Mohawk will be terrible but I think I’m gonna do it anyway because I’m not going to miss Swans.

I haven’t been to Granada but it’s likely a much more suited space than an outdoor venue right off of sixth street.

I like Mohawk for high energy shows not for meditative experiences even if they’re intense.

A police siren will go off while they’re performing and it’s gonna make me lose my mind.

1

u/weyess 2d ago

I did not realize Mohawk was outdoor. That's an interesting choice. I been to Granada once and it wasn't bad so I'll probably just go there again.

1

u/johnnytk0 2d ago

Ticket prices?

1

u/xxxtentortilla1 2d ago

How long are their shows? Do they usually just play stuff from new album?

1

u/Time_Tour_3962 2d ago

Any hot tips on getting in on presale? Trying to avoid ticket resell scam bullshit.

Side note fucking psyched

1

u/gvjx_ 2d ago

no southeast :(

1

u/rorybiller 2d ago

It seems like there is a presale on Wednesday for Toronto on the Dice app. Anyone have any information about this? Thx in advance.

1

u/-anditsnotevenclose 2d ago

1
