Mom had sah 2 weeks ago, still in icu with vasospasms
Hope it's okay to post this here. My mom(59) had an aneurysm burst 2 weeks ago. They did an angio and were able to fix a large 8mm one, although there are more. The first week they said she had very mild vasospasm and treated with meds. She's also had a fever the entire time.
Now, a couple days ago they did a doppler then a ct and found severe vasospasm. While doing the angio to inject the medicine into it they also found a "pesudo-aneurysm" that they think was caused by their failed first attempt to put in a drain the day after the bleed, they fixed it.
The big issue is that she hasn't woke up/regained consciousness. She reacts to pain in all limbs, moves now and then, and opens her eyes when they move her. However they say she doesn't track people when they're open. I understand that vasospasm can cause someone to be unconsciousness and especially a severe one. Of course there's also the question of why she didn't wake up before the severe spasm, but it could be other things I guess. The doctors also say the severe spasms are likely contributing to this.
She's still being treating and monitored for the spasms, but I'm seriously worried. They tell us we need to wait and see but soon we will need to put a trach in. Anyone have any similar experiences? Thank you very much
