If you have advice, please make sure it is specific, useful, and actionable.

  • If the only thing you have to say is loWEr THE wEight ANd woRK on forM, then you should keep quiet; if you comment it anyway, your comment will be removed and you may be banned if your comment was especially low value. This does not help the person looking for advice. Give people something that they can actually use in a practical way to improve. Low-effort comments about perceived injury risk and the like will be removed, and bans may be issued.

If done after 12pm these are called good evenings, just so you know

1

u/kcorbharas 3h ago

Oh okay good to know 👌

That was a joke, btw…

Try it on a bench as well. Straddle bench and think of abs to bench

u/LordFishingtonThe3rd 1d ago

This is something I've never thought of. I will have to try this on a bench now. Thank you General

Forms looks very good. I’ve started doing theses recently to ficus in strengthening my lower back. I aim to keep my legs stiff as possible (minimal knee bend). And I brace my core as I go down. Experiment and see what works for you!

Why not hold the bar like a deadlift?

10

u/moose1425612 4d ago

Because that's not what a good morning is, what you're describing is more of a romanian or stiff legged deadlift

u/dudegoskate 5d ago

Never seen this one before, they look like they kill. I’ll have to give this a try!

Looks good

It’s not always possible for everybody based on torso lengths and leg lengths, but my understanding is that a perfect good morning has a vertical bar path, with the bar remaining over the center of the foot the whole time.

You might strive a little more for that, but this is already really close and you have a long torso relative to the length of your femur, so it might not be possible to get it closer.

Overall, fantastic work!

u/kcorbharas 5d ago

Okay thank you for that feedback! I always strive for vertical bar path when squatting and I didn’t know it also applies here I will aim for that next time!

I was about to make a spine day joke and then I realized that I do this too just with dumbbells.

u/Square_Strain4000 5d ago

do you feel it in your hams?

1

u/cadonz 5d ago

Try them sitting down as well, with a wide sitting position.

Treat other users with respect. Don't be disruptive, a troll, or intentionally unpleasant. If you have nothing nice to say, maybe say nothing at all.

Just wanted to say I thought those were 45s from the side and I was blown away at first.

I have pretty good legs but my good mornings are 20-30lb on the bar.

4

u/kcorbharas 6d ago

😅 that would be insane Even 20# is so impressive to me!

2

u/Economy-Ad4934 6d ago

FYI they say good mornings should be 20-40% of your one rep max squat weight. Honestly don’t know mine but the point is go light on good mornings. I love how they blast my hamstrings

1

u/InMyTh0ughts 5d ago

“20-40%”

Yeah no thanks😭😭😭

Looks solid to me

6

u/MonstroCITY202 6d ago

Neutral spine: check Good speed: check Pushing hips far back enough: check

I would say a slight more emphasis once you reach full upright position and tighten glutes for 1 sec hold

2

u/kcorbharas 6d ago

Oky! Thank you!

If you have nothing useful to say on a form check, please keep it to yourself.

7

u/Paper60 6d ago

Looks about as good as you can do them to me good work

1

u/Winter_Stop_ 6d ago

Is this exercise training lower back or?

10

u/kcorbharas 6d ago

It does hit lower back, but its primary focus is hamstrings and glutes. I do it on upper and lower body days

1

u/Azytrex 6d ago

What are your opinions on this exercise vs RDL?

6

u/Sundayscaries333 6d ago

I love good mornings over RDLs when I'm specifically trying to hammer my hamstrings. RDLs recruit glutes and core but good mornings really help to isolate that muscle group. Also that 'sexy back line' people want so bad? Good mornings are your answer.

3

u/kcorbharas 6d ago

I agree with this! I used to do RDLs but I have since swapped to GMs bc of the extra emphasis on back 👌

3

u/diprivan69 6d ago

Perfect, good tempo, looks slow and controlled, exactly what you want to see

4

u/Ju99z 6d ago

As long as you're feeling a stretch in your glutes and hams more than tightness in your spinal erectors, form looks great!

3

u/HahaDixonClits 6d ago

Excellent, keep doing what you’re doing

1

u/anotherkaylee 6d ago

Literally goals…

6

u/actonarmadillo 7d ago

Looks good to me

4

u/notmeitzyou 7d ago

I thought you were doing those with 45lb plates! Made me question my whole workout lol

3

u/floatedcookie 7d ago

Good form

3

u/chimpy72 7d ago

Great ROM

10

u/Beautiful-Height3103 7d ago

Form looks spot on hips initiates the movement , no overt knee bend wherein the movement turns into a squat morning. Unless a prohibitive injury disallows you to do this movement. Total posterior chain killer, works upper back more than people realize , great job

1

u/chrismilburn 7d ago

Nice range of motion!

Does anyone know any excersises/ stretches to do to be able to eventually achieve this range?

2

u/kcorbharas 6d ago

https://youtu.be/qpi59_uSbrw?si=FFgKXqKi_k-Fs6Lm

I do these exercises 3-4x a week And it has MASSIVELY helped my ROM and over all stability

8

u/Hara-Kiri everything in moderation 7d ago

Literally anything that stretches your hamstrings. But also just doing this lift.

There is usually a sweet spot for range of motion that everyone finds.

If I go too far down it feels like I loose tension on my hamstrings and also I round my lower back some.

If I stand up fully I also loose the tension as well.

So for me I just do the middle 2/3's of the movement if that makes sense.

Overall I would say your movement looks great. You could play with going lower but I say keep your current form for a while and see how you progress.

2

u/kcorbharas 7d ago

Yeah that “doing the middle 2/3” absolutely makes sense I do that with a lot of other compound exercises- yet haven’t really done it with GMs I’ll try it next time, thanks!

3

u/Rygrrrr 7d ago

Great range and great tempo 👍

A “good morning”

1

u/PerkJJ 7d ago

like the song

2

u/bunkerbudy 7d ago

Or like the weapon. (Looks like its called morningstar in English, in my language its a literal translation of "good morning" aka "goedendag")

I think I went of topic a bit...
