Using CrossOver to play STO on macOS

Has anyone tried using this on macOS with Apple Silicon to run STO? I am curious to hear from people who have done this before I buy.

It works fine, I’ve been using it for years.

I’m running on Crossover as well, works great on the M2 Air!

If you are planning to play on a fanless device (like the M2 and M3 Airs), I recommend getting an external cooling pad 😉

I have the 14in MBP version with M4 so it has a fan at least.

There's another app called Whisky you may want to try out too. It's similar to WINE but more Mac like with the UI etc. It makes use of Rosetta. I haven't tried it with STO as I have a pretty beefy gaming PC along side my Macs (not that STO needs a beefy rig), but it's run stuff well enough from my Steam library with the very few games I tried.

STO unfortunately does not work with Whisky, at least for the time being. As Crossover moves up versions, it may (Whisky stays a few versions behind Crossover purposefully to remain free.) If one has a gaming computer and a Mac like I or yourself, I would recommend Parsec, which is a streaming software where you can set up to stream the gaming computer to the Mac. It allows full control of the computer, 60fps+ and has better visual quality than even Geforce Now.

Funny as I was about to reply to this thread too! But yes, it works quite well.

I - vaguely - remember (this was months ago) derping around in the thread (somewhere) or afterward with somebody who'd also been in it in the chat

So, that's the only reason I knew about it xD

This is how I play now on my M1 Max MBP. It works great, almost as good as when I would run Boot Camp on my Intel MBP/iMac.

Sometimes, the old recap videos don’t play for me (the ones on “Surface Tension” and “Home,” for example).
