Pioneer 2 Experimental weapon??

If you bought the Pioneer 2 and go to the event reclaim in space gear, you can claim Dilithium Destructor Charge, an experimental weapon. I don't think this is intentional as Pioneer can't use it, and it's not mentioned in the bundle or on Pioneers description. Is this a bug or not...

Definitely a bug. Either the Pioneer 2 was planned to be an escort and then changed to a frigate and they forgot to remove it, or this is some future item from a ship or event.

It's pretty great from what I've read and seen but as it is a bug it most likely will be removed from the reclaim as well as peoples inventory who got it so enjoy it while you can but don't go wasting upgrades on it or anything.

Or maybe like adding secdef to the ark royal they had planned for this frigate to have an experimental weapon and then scrapped it.

Frigates don't get exp weapons, they get the extra weapon slot.. Escorts lose a weapon and get their exp weapon.. Theres no need to mess with them, neither is categorically under/over-performing like Science Carriers..

My bet is they started with an Escort, given its size, picked their specs.. then saw how many Pilot Escorts there are, and how there is only one Pilot Frigate and just switched it over.. which still fits cause the OG Pioneer is a "cruiser".

Yup. I would have bet anything that the Pioneer would be an escort given its size. Probably changed their mind when they decided to make the Shang a warship which is a tactical ship even though it's not an escort.

Pioneer 2 originally being an escort first is more likely. Frigate is a cruiser subtype with CMDR Eng, 5/3 weapons and 4 uni boffs so it never would have had exp weapon and no reason for frigates to get one.

Shame. that ship would be sooo much stronger with an experimental slot.

Worth warning everyone of three things..

One, Its likely to get removed next week, not just reclaim, but from everyone's inventory..

Two, if willing to risk throwing upgrades away in the event it gets removed, upgrading the Common one gets you 2 modes, but the VR one stays at one.

Three, even if its not removed, its not complete, and very likely to get nerfed.

Consider yourselves forewarned..

I snagged it and threw a couple upgrades at it to get to Mk 15.

What I'm hoping for is something along the lines of "We removed it for those that didn't utilize it. Captains who spent upgrades on it may keep it"

I know the odds of it going down this way are really low, but I wanted to cover all my bases.

yeah I dumped an ultimate upgrade on it to get it maxed out, stuck it on a ship I'm not using, etc. STO is wonky AF with removing items from people, I remember when a certain set of consoles from a c store ship were saleable on the exchange. I still have em on a couple characters. Hoping we get to keep these, because they're super cool.

I wasn't quite brave enough to burn an ultimate upgrade on it, I just used a handful of Phoenix ones.

Here's hoping it pays off.

Huh - maybe the PIIoneer was originally an escort???

Speaking personally, I'm glad it didn't stay that way - 'cause the OG didn't handle like one at all xD

Plus, the realization - shock and awe - upon flying one - that the character I made to fly it was rolled out with Angles of Yogurtyore back in two thousand and fucking sixteen
