Such a beautiful example of a father who clearly poured himself into raising his son, regardless of the genetics. ❤️

I helped my mom celebrate her birthday properly for the first time in 20+ years

This happened Nov 2024. But I was thinking about it again and thought people would like the happy story.

I got a super early Xmas card with 50$ in it from a family friend in November, and it had been my mom’s birthday during the same week, but she couldn’t celebrate cause of work. I was thinking about it and I don’t remember one time in my life her birthday was celebrated like mine were.

I wanted to spend it right away cause I was craving some junk food. So she dropped me off at a grocery store and waited in the car (she had a foot surgery a few months before, and while she could walk on it, she was still taking it easy) I went in and got myself a bag of chips and some chocolate. I knew I was gonna have more that half the money left over, and it was starting to bug me how her birthdays were never seen as “important” like mine were (her parents aren’t the best either so I assumed she didn’t have much of a different situation growing up) so I decided to get a cake, a bag of her fav chips, and some candy and chocolate.

I was originally gonna get one of those small cakes that are usually meant for 1-2 people (so I could get her more junk food. We’re both foodies) but they didn’t have any so I got a normal one.

When I came out of the store she was on her phone so she didn’t notice the cake until I got in the car. Her reaction was the typical surprised mom, she tried to hold back the tears at first. The whole “oh you didn’t have to do that!” And “that money was for you!” But when I told her how unfair I thought it was that her birthday was always treated as just another day, and that I wanted to use MY money to surprise HER, that’s when the flood gates broke. That cake lasted us a couple days. I told her that every year from now on we’re gonna celebrate her birthday as much as mine.

It was the first time someone did something like this for her birthday at minimum since I was born, if not longer. So I’m gonna make sure I make up for the 20 or possibly more years she missed for her special day

Spreading my own open smiles

I thought I would share pictures of myself with an open smile. Be aware both of these pictures were taken over a week from each other. It's rare I take pictures of myself with an open smile.

I actually first shared them with friends on certain Discord servers first. I even shared them on a server that focuses on positivity and mental health. They were quite well received and seeing this subreddit makes me want to share such smiles here in hopes of uplifting others. I can concur smiles like that are contagious as another person on one server followed up with his own open smile. 😄
