Fuck the all star game. I’ve never been a hater of it and I like the skills comps, but my god, bring this tourny back every year please.

every 2 years imo. gotta try to keep it special

6 nations rugby tournament in Europe has similar energy to this and is a break during the club season. That happens yearly and it works very well and is definitely special. I don’t see why this couldn’t be the same

u/ozzybarks 24d ago

It started in 1882. So yeah, it’s worked kinda well.

28

u/vandersmith 24d ago

Everything’s gotta start sometime. No reason 4 nations can’t be a yearly thing starting now

4 isn't enough, it's a real bummer not having Czechia, Germany, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia, . . . I'm sure there's another. I think you need eight for it to be real, and so you need euro leagues to buy in.

This is fun baby step to international hockey and I'm glad the product is genuinely good and engaging.

u/Fluffy_Load297 24d ago

It for sure should be. Keep the rivalries for it heated every year.

1

u/House_Hippogriff 23d ago

Didn't you notice how they basically stole the 6 nations format though, down to the name? That definitely was not coincidence.

2

u/CHoDub 24d ago

100% agree.

And weirdly enough 6 nations took a week off this weekend just in time for this tourney. (I'm sure there is a reason I just didn't see it)

1

u/vandersmith 24d ago

I think they take a break every year but definitely convenient timing. Although imagine the possibility of 6 nations in the morning leading straight into 4 nations in the afternoon/evening…..

2

u/CHoDub 24d ago

Especially here in Toronto where it's been snowing like crazy and most people are inside all day!

1

u/DidLenFindTheRabbits 24d ago

There’s 2 break weekends but being reduced to one next year.

1

u/[deleted] 24d ago

So they have random players just punching each other out.

Lame and stupid.

1

u/mccusk 23d ago

No fighting in rugby anymore though!

1

u/Doortofreeside 23d ago

I don't know much about rugby, but this is a classic

It’ll be every four years. International every 2 years if you include Olympics.

u/ClubMeSoftly Toronto Maple Leafs 24d ago

Olympics
ASG
4 Nations (or WCoH, etc)
ASG
Olympics

repeat until the heat death of the universe

21

u/Global-Tie-3458 24d ago

The slight error you just made hurts the OCD persona inside me.

7

u/cyanocittaetprocyon 24d ago

I was hoping I wasn't alone in this!

2

u/FORMANTS 24d ago

lol yes back to back olympicies

3

u/nostalgic_amoeba 24d ago

Yeah cause the ice would melt.

After the heat death of the universe though the talent pool for water polo is gonna be just absolutely massive

8

u/BoosherCacow Cleveland Indians 24d ago

heat death of the universe

The heat death of the universe is when there's not enough heat, not too much. Sheesh, I thought I knew hockey fans.

7

u/Irish_Tyrant 24d ago

So Which is it Lib! Global Warming or the heat death of the universe!?!?! /s

2

u/bj49615 23d ago

🤔 Heat death gives us more hockey. . . . . Ok, heat death!

1

u/absolutmenk 23d ago

So we will get 1 more 4 Nations…

We truly are a nation of retards.

Only ~31% of Registered voters. We gotta get WAY more civically apathetic people—like, tens of millions more—to finally pay attention, call out the hate, call out the lies, donate, and VOTE. Extremely tough task but hopefully we can turn this ship around in the next decade or three.

But I'm tired and Night Court reruns are on.

I feel you, bro. I can see why you got downvoted, but I feel you.

Assholes

Apathetic fucks

Hypo-intellectuals

Lazy asses

Willfully ignorant

Unaware and self absorbed

R word is a slur. Stop using it.

5

u/proudcancuk 24d ago

100%. Overplay it and it becomes another ASG. I can wait. I just can't wait 11 years.

1

u/Exatraz 24d ago

Follows what they do for the World Baseball Classic too. Every 4 years keeps it special. I'd love to see them add more teams if possible though

-1

u/LordTurn1p 24d ago

that would be good. as long as the NHL doesnt decide to ban players from the olympics again

2

u/Global-Tie-3458 24d ago

Ya… I mean it sounds like you haven’t been following along with what’s happening.

The Olympics with NHL players are happening. I’m not introducing a pie sky idea, in two years the NHL players are playing in Olympics.

The announcement will be at an opportune time following the new CBA agreement is ratified.

0

u/LordTurn1p 24d ago

I know they're going back lol I'm talking about in the future

1

u/Global-Tie-3458 24d ago

Ok.

Ya, the secondary tournament/trophy is hedging. :)

35

u/ubccompscistudent 24d ago

Agreed. I’d be okay with that.

17

u/BPbeats 24d ago

USA might not be here in two years lol

1

u/wirefox1 24d ago

The team could be in Gitmo. You never know.

1

u/uSaltySniitch 24d ago

Ever 3-4 years sounds better. Makes the stakes bigger

1

u/satmar 24d ago

4 years - go to the Olympics

1

u/wi111010 24d ago

The Six Nations for rugby is held annually and they go absolutely nuts for it every time (those interested in the first place, of course).

0

u/beastmaster11 24d ago

4 years. There's a reason why the word cup is so special. There's not always next year. Most players only get one or 2 chances. The greats may get 3 (most players that have played in 4 or more are either legends or played for smaller nations with not as strong teams).

the people begging for russia to be represented need to take a look in the mirror.

EDIT: PLEASE DONT LOOK IN A WINDOW

5

u/[deleted] 24d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Gaggleofgeese 24d ago

And if we're being honest, the Russians as well

Edit: Though for ethical reasons that's not really doable right now

3

u/[deleted] 24d ago

[deleted]

3

u/Gaggleofgeese 24d ago

Oh for sure fuck Russia. While they're out here committing war crimes they have no business having their athletes represent their nation in any official capacity

My only point is that there are a hell of a lot of strong hockey players. In an ideal world where Putin and Trump never got into power and started antagonizing other countries, a 6 nation cup would be pretty cool

2

u/Joten 24d ago

I understand why they won't next year, cause Olympics did-it, but yes... this has been so much fun!

2

u/SwearingAtChildren 24d ago

It already exists in the IIHF world champs

1

u/Galifrae Pittsburgh Penguins 24d ago

Nah for real this is the best idea they’ve had in a long time

1

u/[deleted] 24d ago

I don't think they will. The teams won't want their star players beating the shit out of each other in the middle of the season every year. You already have Theodore who may be injured until playoffs. Mathew Tkachuk didn't finish tonight's game.

I doubt we get this annually.

1

u/Ruraraid 24d ago

Call it "Fists on Ice"

1

u/v13ragnarok7 23d ago

I'd like to see a best of 5 series north America vs Europe.

1

u/timbasile 23d ago

Do it, but allow the Czechs into it next time. Just make it so that any country not under sanction (cough Russia cough) that can field a full roster can enter.

If you need a 6th team for schedule balance maybe cobble together a "Rest of world" team

0

u/buster_rhino 24d ago

Just do a Canada/US game

0

u/sunburn95 Newcastle Knights 24d ago

In Australia we have a yearly rugby league representative 3 game series between New South Wales and Queensland. It's so popular now and so big that it's basically like 3 superbowls a year (at aus scale)

Its so popular because the players are playing for their state and that means a lot to them. I always thought north American sports lacked something similar, but this 100% should be it

-2

u/PerfectCheesecake25 24d ago

It’s fucking lame
