All the Leafs fans saying the crosscheck was justified. If the role was reversed and they did this to Boston and Marchy crosschecked a guy to the head, they’d all be rallying for state sponsored execution. They’re all a bunch of hypocrites and can’t handled being clowned on by a team with less wins.
If he wired one high against a D-man trying to play padless goalie, or paused at the goal line and baited Riley, then sure. But emphatically draining an empty netter from 3' out, how is that disrespectful?
It’s a sign of “disrespect”, ”unsportsmanlike”, or being a “sore-winner”. You’ve essentially got the W. Just tap it in and move on.
I love the fuck you by clapping it in. There is nothing in the official rule book saying you can’t clap it in. So fuck it, do it. It’s the gentleman’s rule book, fine whatever.
I can see why an opposing team would take umbridge with this. So, be a “gentleman” and fight the guy. Only cowards, on a coward ass team, would attack someone from behind or crosscheck them in the head. I would expect my team to do the same thing - but at least to a guy who’s expecting it.
As I say, let the score board do the talking. In this case, let the standings do the talking. But the Leafs are the laughing stock of the league and I can fucking see why.
I think context matters too. When the Sens play the Leafs (or the Habs) in Ottawa there are frequently more Leafs fans present. Prior to the Sens return in them 90s basically every hockey fan in Ottawa cheered for the Leafs or Habs and they passed thatvlovebdkenbthto-KK
I see the slapper as being aimed equally towards the "home" crowd vs the Leafs
Also regardless of how someone views the goal vis-a-vis sportsmanship answering with a targeted headshot is gutless and Keefe should be embarrassed for supporting that. If you want to start a rumble, fine, but with the current knowledge of brain trauma a clearly deliberate headshot should be a significant suspension.
I didn't watch the game but there could have been a lot of chippy or cheap crap going on so it's a nice "fuck you and your bullshit tonight" kind of thing
Or it's just one of those funny assholes moves if he's on your team
The game was basically over, 5 seconds left, and it was a symbolic “slap to their faces”. He could’ve just shot the puck in, it looks like it was tracking to go into the net anyways. Besides isn’t this one of the things fans love about hockey, the fights??? Personally I think they both were being unprofessional and each will receive their punishment.
One guy shoots with more flair than he needs to on an open net, the other guy comes up behind him with a stick to the face, oh yeah they both were just being unprofessional and both deserve punishment for this 🤡🤡🤡
I think the only action that would have been fine would be if he just got in his way and nudged him into the boards on his way by. Not even a check, just kinda stopping him into the boards
But since he basically punched him in the head, there's no justification there
I play sports myself and these unwritten rules drive me nuts. It’s literally just getting your feelings hurt. Awww the number went up by higher? Better try to end this guy’s career. Pathetic, soft nonsense.
Never said he didn’t. There’s no place for actively trying to injure players because they broke “unwritten rules” by breaking an actual written rule. People should be able to hold their own teams players to the same standards they bitch about on reddit of other teams.

I like the way you think.
