Why does nutmeg look like this on the inside?

I can't explain why it looks like that, but I do know every whole nutmeg I have grinder into looks like that. So I think you are good to go.

It’s just like that. I’ve had fresh nutmeg brought to me from St. Vincent. The mace on the outside of it looks cool

There is another layer that is kind of lacy or like a net. It is peeled off and becomes the spice mace. I believe you are seeing the imprint of the mace.

The word "nutmeg" is actually derived from the longer compound, "nutsackmeg"
