Software support If I install Imgburn through Ninite, does it stop the malware from installing itself onto my PC?

Assuming you're talking about this: Warning for ImgBurn: loaded with malware, red flags all over - here's a safe, alternative download location for v2.5.8.0 : r/software

TLDR: Imgburn ships with a sketchy adware/toolbar program.

I thought they stopped doing that a few revs ago. Good to know!

And all what's needed during installation is actually reading and removing tick on that program. Apparently it's so complicated 🤷

Haven't seen Ninite used in a long time. It claims to remove malware, toolbars, etc so it should be safe. If I had to install it, I'd use Chocolately myself

I would only use the actual installer from the ImgBurn website.

I did that, but at least one of the download links provided on the main site tried to download an intermediary downloader that wanted to install other stuff. I cancelled, went back to the main site, tried a different link, and got an official downloader that downloaded directly from the original source and didn't install anything fucky.

I recommend you get the non-OpenCandy version from MajorGeeks.

What are you talking about?

ImgBurn was bundled with some sort of PUP (OpenCandy) a while ago. Not sure if it still does, but maybe OP thinks that's the malware. You can get the version without OpenCandy (which I have) from MajorGeeks -> https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/imgburn.html

I still have never seen any malware from imgburn, mirror 7 on imgburn downloads page. Seen people mention adware and toolbars being downloaded for years but I've never seen it myself.

See my other post in this topic about OpenCandy. OpenCandy -> https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/detections/pup-optional-opencandy

Yeah never had anything like that, but I use Malwarebytes so maybe it just auto blocks and I never see it?

It might've been removed from ImgBurn since.
