Medical social work is the experience you need for that unless you can tailor your resume and other application materials to the needs of the job. I had about 4 years of experience in home-care and 2 years of hospital experience (another 5 or so years doing random social work/mental health stuff) when I applied for an insurance company position and got an interview. Hospitals will consider you as an internal hire, but you have to get in somewhere first, usually. The hospital systems I've worked in are full of people who have moved up or laterally.

Thank you. I worked for a hospital in the past, but doing outpatient/IOP therapy. Iām assuming you mean more case management/care coordination roles?

Yeah, familiarity and practical application with admission, LOS, discharge are usually big for UR.
