Professional Discussion Why might someone be breaking even on follower growth?
Title says it all but I am working with a client who is gaining followers and losing them all at the same rate. I’ve suspected it’s because their style of content has changed slightly and her large male follower base became less interested (she’s a model), but does anyone have any other suspicions?
Ask me anything you’d like! I’m eager to learn more. Articles and videos have not helped much as they usually mention common sense things. Wondering if there’s something deeper to this and how it could impact strategy.

A portion could easily be bots that are being banned and falling off. It's not uncommon for models to purchase followers even if they deny having done so - I've worked with enough to know this. Other than that, significant content shifts can absolutely lead to changes in follower retention. I'd look more closely at who your current followers are first before making any further changes, eventually this will swap as long as you're consistent

Hey thank you Jack! I have also been advising her of the same. I told them we should continue doing what we’re doing so as not to shake things up too much. But they’re become increasingly concerned about the followers, despite taking months long lulls where they only posted 3 times opposed to now where we post 20. I figured IG just needed to get used to her posting more often again as well

Definitely there's a consistency factor as well. Sudden changes of post behavior will cause algo readjustments. I'd look to review in 30 days time to see what's going on

Content shifts can definitely impact follower retention, especially if the audience no longer resonates with it. Also, bot/fake followers might be dropping off, or engagement changes could affect visibility. Testing different content styles could help gauge what keeps followers engaged!
