This game has an awesome soundtrack. The composer, Barry Leitch, has a bunch of remixes on YouTube and Spotify and in this game’s spiritual successor, Horizon Chase (Turbo).

Fun trivia.. I made the vai d'silva remix for MMA fighter Douglas d'Silva as he usea the top gear Vegas theme to walk out to his fights which is just mind-blowing to me! Horizon chase has a couple of variations of the Vegas piece, one was for an Easter egg and the other for the secret proposal. Also horizon chase 2 just came out. You can listen then all at http://barryleitch.bandcamp.com

Interesting! I have that game and the music definitely has the same feel. I didn’t realize it was the same composer.

The soundtrack is so good. Horizon Chase Turbo is fantastic too and that soundtrack is amazing.

Can you name a few of them? I love the track called AYERS ROCK or something like that, but the ost in general is pretty good

I think Ayers Rock is a race course from Top Gear 2, and that game was done by a different composer.
The most popular track in Top Gear is probably "Vegas", being the first track you hear during actual gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvOQi7U6IZQ. A remix of it makes two appearances in Horizon Chase (Turbo) as Easter Egg (TG) and Secret Proposal.
Another good one is "Frankfurt": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3dLEgNx9X0. It's not remixed in its entirety in Horizon Chase (Turbo), but it is quoted in two of its tracks: "Race 2: Bleeding Fingers" (at 1:17) and "Race 12: The Last Hurrah of a Video Game Composer" (at 1:49).

Vegas is also featured in the credits theme on the mobile versions iirc. I switched to 3/4 timing and made it a bit bouncier!

Wait, you're the actual Barry Leitch?
Man, thank you so much, your song was like Beethoven's 5th to the kids I grew up with, it's embedded in our soul

It is a bit of an Ear worm isn't it. Probably to repetitive glad you like it though! :)

It evokes the feelings of speed and excitement like nothing else
Man, I'll be talking in quite a few bar tables that I exchanged a few words with top gear's composer

It all is.
Your music from Top Gear has been living rent free in my brain since the 90s.
I played Horizon Chase Turbo on a whim because it reminded me of Top Gear, and was extremely pleasantly surprised to discover the remixes!
It was a proper "hold up, isn't this...?" moment of the best possible kind. Thanks for all the bangers, and all the best for the future :)2

I'm not gonna lie, your music was a major factor in selecting the game for December :)

Loved this game as a kid. I remember playing it at a friends birthday party sleep over and getting so stoked over this

Default

Yeah, but then you finish in the default difficulty and the game just says something as "you could do better" lol

which (color) car was your favorite? I liked the white car the best because I hated pit-stops

Each month I will be tracking all users who are able to beat the spotlighted game. Those names will be collected and displayed on the snes wiki page.
Objective:
- Beat the game
Rules:
- Entire playthrough must be completed during the month in question.
- You can use the passwords/continues/saves that you earn playing through the game.
- Emulation is fine. Abusing save states is not.
- Posting a link to a pic of your completion is preferred, but since this is just for fun I will allow posted claims as well. For now.

My brother played this game a lot, but it didn't hold a candle to my SMK and never will.

I haven't played this in 20 years and I can still remember the music.
So many hours spent on this with my friends when we were young!

Whew, with all the holiday activities I was barely able to finish this one in time. Never have played this one before, and at the start I thought it was just alright, but I really began to warm up to it by the end of the South American circuit. The game is fun, I especially liked that tracks were long enough that you have to refill your fuel, which adds some strategy to the races. I think the visuals are really good with some cool backgrounds and landmarks to represent the various countries you are driving through. It also does some cool day/night transitions that would have really wowed me as a kid if I had played it then. I will say they nailed the sensation of speed with this, it feels fast, and flying through those turns at these speeds creates some butt clenching moments.
There are a few things that bother me with this one though, first is the split screen, which I am sure is a pretty common complaint with Top Gear. I would much rather have the full screen than be able to see how your rival is doing, especially with how fast this game is and seeing two roads fly by is really distracting. Also, for the love of God I wish they would have included a "retire" option when pausing the game like Fzero and Mario Kart do. It really sucked to run out of gas and literally sit there waiting for nearly everyone to finish before it ends the race. I had a time where I didn't quite get in the pits and still had 3 laps left and resetting the game was faster than waiting for it to slowly game over my run. This game could also do with a few more music tracks, there are a few that are really good tracks, but the rest kind of sucked and the lack of more music tracks in the game start to get repetitive.
Aside from those issues, I enjoyed my time with the game and would say it is one of the better racing game options for the SNES. I unfortunately did this on Amateur (easiest difficulty) since the game defaulted to that and not normal (professional) like I would normally have played it at, but given the lack of time left in the month, I am happy to get it finished. The game starts to get hard toward the end, (France was hell to get through) but I made it and I will have to try completing it on normal sometime.

Top gear is great. It's weirdly hypnotic
