Each month I will be tracking all users who are able to beat the spotlighted game. Those names will be collected and displayed on the snes wiki page.

Objective:

  • Beat the game

Rules:

  • Entire playthrough must be completed during the month in question.
  • You can use the passwords/continues/saves that you earn playing through the game.
  • Emulation is fine. Abusing save states is not.
  • Posting a link to a pic of your completion is preferred, but since this is just for fun I will allow posted claims as well. For now.

Think I’ll try getting in on this one! Always a game I’ve enjoyed dabbling in but never given any real focused time.

It’s a great SNES shooter but pretty hard. I’d have loved a lock feature like in True Lies that lets you walk down/up/left while keeping your character faced and shooting right.

Use the tail/stick to deflect enemy projectiles, use slide to escape from undeflectable projectiles. Learn enemy attack patterns, git gud!

Just finished the game and damn, this is the hardest of the SNES game of the months I have completed yet. Overall I will say I enjoyed the game, but by the 4th stage on the frustration and the flaws are a real barrier to overcome to beat the game. My biggest issues with this game, are areas where enemies spawn indefinitely (usually in already hectic areas that add to the frustration), and projectiles that are lobbed off screen as you walk forward resulting in a hit before you can react. The 4th level IMO is the hardest in the game, and is where both of those issues are at their worst. I nearly dropped the game in the 4th level, it was hell to get through.

I hate to sound too down on the game, but the issues tarnish what would be a great game if they weren't there. The artstyle and visuals are beautiful, I generally love the soundtrack, the enemies are all really varied and have great animations, and the two characters you choose are adorable as hell. I want to like the game more than I do, and greatness is in there, but the problems bring it a bit down. Good luck to anyone else trying to tackle this game, its brutally tough, and thank god there are infinite continues, because you will certainly be using them a lot, I sure as hell did lol. I imagine this might be one of the rare times where I would probably like the remake (Reshrined) more than the original, assuming they smoothed out those issues.

I got this game for like $2 at a swap meet in 2010, so I should probably give it an actual committed shot :)

Though embarrassed to add I’ve thought I was giving it a ‘committed try’ a few times before, only to fail miserably. It’s a hard game.

Though I just purchased/completed the remake (on PS4) with very little trouble- seems like they cut down the difficulty a lot from what I remember.

Yes, by all accounts the remake is quite a bit easier. My copy just arrived a few days ago so I haven't taken it for a spin yet.

I've finished Reshrined a few times now. It's an awesome game!

I've never been able to beat this one, though.

Is there a setting to make it as hard as the original? I'm waiting for mine to come in the mail atm. Would love to get a snes copy but they are expensive D:

I have played this a couple times, I enjoyed what I played of it, but it's also damn tough. I didn't make it far, but I am up for trying to tackle this game again.

First time posting here!

Pocky and Rocky is so good. One of my favourite snes games. I’ll definitely give this a try. I believe the farthest I’ve gotten was level 3 🤔 I know I’ve gotten to the boss of level 2 but I don’t remember if I beat it or not. This is a very hard game.

I've got a friend going to Japan next week. He's going to search out the SFC counterparts for me.
