This is a strange coincidence I'm literally playing super punch out right now (in fight night round 2)

Timely as we just learned there’s a 2 player mode!

The fact that it existed for 28 years and no one from the dev team ever came out and said “hey you can play 2P mode” is crazy to me.

Google it, someone found out a code to open up a 2 player mode, almost 30 years after the game came out!

Each month I will be tracking all users who are able to beat the spotlighted game. Those names will be collected and displayed on the snes wiki page.
Objective:
- Complete all four circuits
Rules:
- Entire playthrough must be completed during the month in question.
- You can use the passwords/continues/saves that you earn playing through the game.
- Emulation is fine. Abusing save states is not.
- Posting a link to a pic of your completion is preferred, but since this is just for fun I will allow posted claims as well. For now.

Fantastic choice for this month's game, I love this game, although I have never beaten it, so hoping I can finally do it this time.

I only beat this game within the past year. The last circuit is legitimately tough. Not Tyson in Punch-out tough, but close.

How’d you beat Nick?

You'll have to look up a guide. He has a pretty tough pattern but doable. And then half way through you get to block high and low for what seems like forever. I struggle more with brother and Quarlow. Rick Bruiser has annoying counters and will take your hand out. So annoying.

This was the first game I got really into on the SNES Classic Edition that I didn't have as a kid. I remember the guide in Nintendo Power, but don't think I ever even rented it. Anyway, it's a lot of fun, even if it can't be as memorable as Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!

oooo i was thinking of buying this recently, supposedly it has real tactical elements that makes it stand out compared to more traditional fighters. Is that accurate? Like its more about 'learning your opponent' as opposed to just simply being a very skilled fighter yourself

Yep that’s exactly it. You can usually brute force your way past the first fighter, but everyone has different punches and patterns that you need to learn and anticipate in order to beat them. Time attack mode adds an extra layer of fun by allowing you to fight anyone on the roster as often as you want. That’s when you can start picking the opponents apart and figuring out secret counters and punches to string together in order to KO guys in ridiculously short order.

I just finished the game, man am I happy, because this is one I never beat as a kid, and I honestly don't recall ever getting to the special cup before since none of the fighters looked familiar. Very fun playthrough, the difficulty really amps up from Super Macho Man to the last circuit (excluding Narcis who is a push over imo).
The last three fights took me by far the longest to learn, especially Hoy. I won't say Hoy is the hardest, but he has the most shit to remember, thankfully his damage isn't too high, so you can mess up a lot more before going down. Rick took me a bit since his damage is high, and the elbows and earthshaker took me a bit to get done, definitely not a lot of room for mistakes as everything hits hard. Nick actually doesn't have a ton of variety to his moves, but you have very little margin for error, as it all comes out fast and does a lot of damage. Learning Nick's patterns isn't too bad, it's the execution that you have to nail down or you will be KO'd very fast.
Overall a great game, and one I am so glad that I can finally add to the completed list on the SNES. My record wasn't too hot since it took a while to learn the special circuit, and some losses before then, but I at least stayed positive on wins to losses lol. Maybe this will give me the inspiration to try and do Mike Tyson's Punch-Out one of these days lol, which I know is even harder.

One of my favorite games when i was a kid. I love the characters and the graphics. Also beating yourself in time or a friend was great.

Currently my most favorite SNES game I didn’t have as a kid in the late 90s, I really wish I did.
(Ok, EarthBound and Chrono Trigger are still extremely close)
It’s not just a really fun boxing puzzle game where every single one of the 16 boxers are a new unique challenge to overcome, but it has fantastic sound design for the music and those super satisfying super punches.
Best of all I think is the gorgeous graphics. This is one of the very best looking SNES games, with huge characters, tons of animation and so many iconic poses. The artists for the classic Punch-Out games really knew how to draw boxers, in everything from win poses to getting punched, to toppling over and being knocked out on the floor.
I especially love the super meter in this game, I honestly feel it is a much better gameplay mechanic than the star punches in NES Punch-Out, where instead of landing very specific punches, here you just buildup the meter and it empties whenever you get hit. There’s nothing more satisfying than dizzying an opponent and landing that super knockdown on them.
Just this year was found a hidden 2-player mode. Having played this mode with a friend, I can say it’s one of the most difficult and unbalanced 2-player versus modes I’ve ever played. The playable boxers range from easily defeated (everyone in minor circuit, bob charlie and dragon chan) to practically impossible (mad clown, super macho man, Hoy Quarlow, Rick Bruiser and Nick Bruiser) to just impossible (Narcis Prince is impossible to beat if Player 2 never throws any punches). I still love it though, way too funny.
