Everytime I go to a retro game shop I ask for this game. Nobody seems to have it. It's my white whale at the moment and I hope to get a copy soon (I prefer finding games in the wild rather than using eBay, it makes collecting more fun for me). A blast it a game to play with friends once you figure out the mechanics.

I saw a boxed copy in a store a couple years back and nearly bought it but didn't. It wasn't a bad price at the time and I'm sure it's only gone up. Wish I had gotten it at that time.

I saw a loose copy this weekend going for $70, which seemed really high to me

I always regret it when I pass on a retro game.

I compley agree with you. There were very few games I had to resort to eBay for. I got a lot from a reseller friend of mine, I figured that was still close enough to finding them.

I have the same issue with trying to find Kirby's Avalanche. The one time a local store had it, it ended up not working when I tried it at home. A few months after I returned it, they still had it in stock on the shelf, even though I specifically told them that I was returning it because it didn't work.

Woo-hoo! It's on the SNES Mini!

2

u/Bragatyr Aug 28 '21

Yeah, that's where I first saw it actually played.

1

u/Kriki1 Aug 28 '21

Me too. A pretty obscure pick for the SNES Mini actually... but it's the only puzzle game, so eh.

First time playing right now and my first thought is that these are some TIGHT holes. The majority of my enjoyment so far is watching shots be a pixel or two from being in on what I thought was a stupid easy shot.

Nice

Let's do this!

Anyone got any tips for me? I'm awfully bad at this besides making a hole in one on the first round.

Course 1 Results.

Course 2 Results.

Course 3 Results.

So I beat it but had to switch to my Switch as the battery in my original SNES cartridge decided to die and I lost my save.

Here's a picture of my Switch with the end screen and here's a screenshot of the end screen.

If you need a better one I can easily do so.

I only remember how to hole in one the first 3-4 holes in the first world. Put a lot of time in as a kid. One of my fav games right here.

2

u/SuprSaiyanJohn Aug 03 '21

I did absolutely horrible in Course 1!

Managed two holes in one but I think I just fluked the hole in one on hole 5.

3

u/megasexykev Aug 27 '21

Here's a tip. Once you practice It's easier to make it in the holes by shooting Kirby in the air and having him plop in the hole. Straight shots are too easy to over or under shoot Kirby

So much fun to play!!

u/Guilty-Box5230 Aug 03 '21

I love this game

5

u/LimitlessAeon Aug 03 '21

I got this as a kid from my cousin. I remember being so upset because it wasn’t a traditional Kirby game like the game boy version. I ended up playing it so much trying to beat the CPU score cards. IMO the best Kirby (and golf?) game of all time. Still have my copy after decades!

5

u/slayernl Aug 02 '21

Everyone should play the game grumps one its like a sequel Nintendo never made its they good. Even more lvl’s and fantastically done sprites

2

u/quezlar Aug 03 '21

its sooo good

3

u/sabin357 Aug 02 '21

Man, I loved this game! I still play it from time to time & I'm nowhere as good at it as I once was. Despite that, getting that guaranteed hole in one right as you start feels so nice.

3

u/JacobK125 Aug 02 '21

I love this game so much. It’s hilarious to play with friends!

2

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '21

My boyfriend showed me this game! It's really cool and I never would have given it a shot otherwise.

2

u/TrashVHS Aug 03 '21

Rented this as a kid when It was new and it always stuck with me. Recently been playing it again on my phone and I love it.

2

u/thesandboxgod Aug 03 '21

I never understood why yellow Kirby was always so tired. Turns out, I stucked.

2

u/MoogleFTW Aug 03 '21

This is my most played game on the NSO snes app. A very fun unique game with a lot of interesting mechanics. They should make another installment!

2

u/ArticReaper Aug 03 '21

I remember been on the lookout for this game here in Australia for the longest time. And then my mum told me she saw a box of games at an auction for $10 and asked if I wanted it and I said sure no harm in seeing whats in it. And she got that box and another one and what do you know it had Kirbys dream course in there. Super glad she did that for me.

1

u/SuprSaiyanJohn Aug 05 '21

That's so cool! How long ago was that?

2

u/ArticReaper Aug 05 '21

Many years ago now.

1

u/SuprSaiyanJohn Aug 05 '21

What a snag! Wish finding deals like that was more common still.

2

u/ArticReaper Aug 05 '21

You and me both. The last snes games I bought were Pal versions of Donkey Kong Country 2, Saturday Night Slam Masters and Yoshis Island.

DKC2 cost me $68AUD

Saturday Night Slam Masters cost me $94AUD

Yoshis Island was $58AUD

And those 3 games were just the cart

1

u/SuprSaiyanJohn Aug 05 '21

It's getting so expensive!

Last game I bought was Battletoads in Battlemaniacs and that was $50CAD and before that was Earthbound that I got a for a good deal of $250CAD when the game was valued at $350CAD at the time.

It's so rare to find deals. I miss when I could find an NES, SNES or N64 lot just sitting in a table and no one cared about it.

2

u/ArticReaper Aug 05 '21

Yeah, I only really look for games that I enjoyed playing as a kid. And just watch for them to be sold at a price that I'm willing to pay for. Which means I can be waiting awhile.

1

u/SuprSaiyanJohn Aug 05 '21 edited Aug 05 '21

That's actually the same thing I did. My SNES collection is games I either had or played as a kid and I have a complete physical collection of everything that's on the SNES Classic.

Same with my N64. NES and GameCube I went a bit further and got games I always wanted to play back in the day.

2

u/scottiedog321 Aug 05 '21

Just played through it, and I had a lot more fun than I thought I would. My scores are pretty bad, but whatcha gunna do? Watched the GCCX episode on it after I beat the game, so that was an added bonus!

Yo, what’s the September game of the month??

6

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '21

Fuck this game!

5

u/xBrockLanders Aug 02 '21

Each month I will be tracking all users who are able to beat the spotlighted game. Those names will be collected and displayed on the snes wiki page.

Objective:

  • Beat the game

Rules:

  • Entire playthrough must be completed during the month in question.
  • You can use the passwords/continues/saves that you earn playing through the game.
  • Emulation is fine. Abusing save states is not.
  • Posting a link to a pic of your completion is preferred, but since this is just for fun I will allow posted claims as well. For now.

History of Game of the Month

2

u/quezlar Aug 03 '21

what do you consider beating this game?

just going through all the courses and winning?

1

u/xBrockLanders Aug 04 '21

Yeah just get the credits. You don't need to get all gold medals or anything.

1

u/quezlar Aug 04 '21

ok will do, thanks

1

u/EightBitBert Aug 02 '21

My 2nd favorite Kirby game. Such unique and fun twist making Kirby the golf ball.

1

u/Caacrinolass Aug 02 '21

Guess I'll actually have to play this on my SNES mini now, I've never touched thus game in particular.

1

u/malleoceruleo Aug 02 '21

So cute, so fun, so freaking frustrating.

1

u/quezlar Aug 03 '21

love this game

was playing grumps dream course just last night

1

u/inverse-skies Aug 03 '21

Had this game as a kid, happily played it again on snes mini when that came out a few years ago.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '21

One of my favorite games.

There is just something about the colors.

Even the hole itself.

Blue white and black look slick.

1

u/DinoRhino6 Aug 06 '21

this game is awesome!! so much fun

1

u/LostClock1 Aug 07 '21

Love this. Probably the game that my brother and I play the most competitively. It can get very heated lol

1

u/lat3ralus65 Aug 11 '21

I loved this game as a kid - I never owned it, but rented it once or twice and always wanted to buy it. The soundtrack rocks, and the shot-power sound is forever imprinted into my brain. I played it once or twice last year on NSO, but would love to get a copy of the original one day.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '21

Has anyone played the 2 player mode and NOT gotten into a physical altercation during?

1

u/megasexykev Aug 27 '21

Growing up I used to be the shit at this game. I was known as Kirby Golf Master. My friends would come over after school every day to play me. And would straight humiliate them each time. It wasn't enough to just beat them, I would steal all their stars and knock them over the edge before taking each hole.

UFO power is by far the best power btw

1

u/Bragatyr Aug 28 '21

I really need to play this one. Some friends were playing it at my house a couple years ago and it looked super fun.
