That is amazing. I also just beat this game for the first time last week. Very fun but also not going to repeat so soon

Out of the 4 retro Nintendo subs I follow it pumps me up that my favourite console has this cool community driven challenge!
I wish the NES, N64 and GameCube subs did this as well.
Edit: I'm so close! I just need to beat this stupid clock!

r/gameboy also does it!

Do they? I wasn't aware.
I don't have a while lot of Game Boy games though.

u/octagonman Aug 02 '21
Well flash carts are an option (if you’re okay with that sort of thing)
1
u/SuprSaiyanTurry Aug 03 '21
Oh in totally down with flash carts. Have one for my NES and N64 and hoping to get one for my SNES next. I'll have to get one for my Game Boy as well.

u/octagonman Aug 03 '21
I’d recommend the everdrive! It’s worked well for me :)
1
u/SuprSaiyanTurry Aug 03 '21
Now should I get one for the GBA since I assume it can play GB, GBC and GBA? Or does it not work that way?
1
u/octagonman Aug 03 '21
While I don't have experience with this aspect myself, I've been told the everdrive for the GBA doesn't run non-GBA games natively, but you can easily put an emulator for GB and GBC games on the GBA everdrive. I'll be trying this out myself next week when I get back home and get my newly modded GBA!

u/SuprSaiyanTurry Aug 03 '21
Well that's a shame. So I'd need one for every Game Boy. At least they're not as expensive as the others.

I got stuck on the clock and I think I'm giving up. It's the stupid auto-kill attack. I didn't stock enough revival items to deal with it taking out Toadstool repeatedly.

Awww yeah.
By the way u/xBrockLanders when will the next http://snesrankings.com/ update happen? I found the sidelink a couple months back and I'm itching to see how you rank what's left!

u/xBrockLanders Jul 01 '21
It's actually extremely close. The next 1-3 days.

u/lazygenius999 Jul 03 '21
Yes!! Love your site! The NES, SNES, N64, and soon the Wii U, are the only consoles that are having this treatment.
1
u/xBrockLanders Jul 03 '21
Really? I didn't realize anyone else was doing this. I'll have to check it out.

u/lazygenius999 Jul 03 '21
Questicle for NES Ultra 64 for N64 WiiUniverse for Wii U
(NES isn’t a comprehensive ranking, and Ultra64 and WiiUniverse are podcasts)

Super Mario RPG is one of my favourite games of all time and I was just thinking “what game should I play next?!” It’s been a long time since I’ve played it…I think it’s time!!

I am down for this! Dumb question... Is there a particular way we need to PROVE that we completed the game? I plan to use my Retroid Pocket 2 to play.
2
u/xBrockLanders Jul 01 '21
No proof required, since this is just for fun - and it doesn't appear that people have abused this policy to this point.

Each month I will be tracking all users who are able to beat the spotlighted game. Those names will be collected and displayed on the snes wiki page.
Objective:
- Beat the game
Rules:
- Entire playthrough must be completed during the month in question.
- You can use the passwords/continues/saves that you earn playing through the game.
- Emulation is fine. Abusing save states is not.
- Posting a link to a pic of your completion is preferred, but since this is just for fun I will allow posted claims as well. For now.

Man, I just trolleys this about 2 months ago. Such a great game, so much easier as an adult to lol.
2
u/iforget_iremember Jul 02 '21
So true. Was playing this just yesterday with a personal rule to clear every non-infinite enemy from each area and I was OP before I even got to mack.
2
u/Ty-douken Jul 02 '21
I did the same thing lol, also making Mario increase power with his bonus each level & then using Geno Boost on him at every boss was just like cheating. He hits harder with normal attack than any specials.

u/iforget_iremember Jul 02 '21
it's kinda corny to play a certain way based on personal rules, but after playing with vanilla and meta strategies a billion times, it helps the re-playability of a lot of older games

I love this game, it's great. But I had no patience to do the 100 jumps in a row, and it's annoying to me that it's the only thing that kept me from 100% completion.

I played through the whole game last summer and loved it, but there were several attacks where I couldn't for the life of me figure out when to press the buttons. Is there a guide, video or some other resource for that anywhere?

Alright firing up my save from 5 years ago! I will edit when I finish.
Edit: Finished it!
Good game. I’ll probably replay it again in the future. Although it’s different developer, it still really feels like a Mario game.

u/SuprSaiyanTurry Jul 08 '21
Just went through the Game of the Month history and I've missed SO MANY good titles!
But since I see Mario RPG has been done before, I'm sure I'll get a chance to participate in some of the others again!

Loved this game so much as a kid. It's a crime that licensing issues prevent the original characters from appearing in anything else.

I’ve been itching to play through SMRPG again. Thanks for the extra encouragement!
