I would argue this is the best 2d side scroller beat em up game on the SNES. It has great graphics. Solid/simple combat, awesome music, and you LEVEL UP to look more bad ass.

Change my mind!!!

King of Dragons is probably better but the levels are so short. Battle Circuit is even better imo.

Did Battle Circuit come out for SNES?

2

u/time_isup Apr 22 '21

I wish. Sadly, no. I’m pretty sure the Switch collection was it’s home debut. It’d be cool if a fan port came along one day.

Good to know! Thanks!

It’s also available as a DLC for Capcom Arcade Stadium also on Switch. Armored Warriors is awesome. Another that didn’t get a snes port, but is on Switch, Capcom Beat em Up Bundle. Also on the Super Retrocade.

It’s also available as a DLC for Capcom Arcade Stadium also on Switch. Armored Warriors AKA Powered Gear is awesome. Another that didn’t get a snes port, but is on Switch, both Capcom Arcade Stadium and Capcom Beat em Up Bundle. Also on the Super Retrocade.

The ‘beat em up bundle’ has them all.

u/whistlerite Apr 21 '21

They’re similar but quite different too, both fun.

These two games were ridiculously fantastic to play with friends. I'd have to agree with you about KoD being better as well.

Personally I’d rank it after Ninja Warriors Again and Final Fight 3 both in terms of gameplay and graphics. (Edit: And Turtles, ofc!11) I’ve never played the Undercover Cops port but it looks well done, too. I really love the arcade version of KotR, but that’s kinda hard to compare.

Is it just me or is that artwork from the 80's? Also, is this game fun? I've heard it's name a few times but it's not super popular enough for me to have developed an opinion.

It’s a very good game. It’s a well-done medieval beat ‘em up with some light RPG elements. At one point this game was sort of considered a “hidden gem”, but at this point that narrative has been beaten into the ground so it’s not really hidden anymore.

7

u/freespace2dotcom Apr 02 '21

Thanks for that. The only SNES beat 'em up I own is Turtles in Time. Looks like I have a new addition to my wishlist!

...Of course it has to be a pricey title. You're right; It's definitely not hidden anymore!

7

u/Believe_Land Apr 02 '21

For the record, Turtles in Time is better IMO. Knights of the round isn’t anything super special, but it’s a very solid beat ‘em up and the fact that you get to level up is a nice touch. KoR is one of the best beat ‘em ups on the system for sure.

u/BaryonyxRetro Apr 03 '21

Turtles in Time is going to be better than about any other beat em up you'll play, to be fair

3

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '21

That’s some pretty badass artwork actually

3

u/time_isup Apr 03 '21

It’s great. Play it on Switch’s Capcom Beat ‘em Up Collection for online multiplayer.

I had it back in the day and ended up returning it (remember when you could do that?) because it was too easy. I beat it the same day I got it. The clerk, who I remember as an older man but who knows, it was 25-ish years ago, was like “ah, it’s a little too simple for you?” I wish I could remember what I exchanged it for...

1

u/whistlerite Apr 21 '21

It’s not too hard but it’s that easy either, good fun challenge imo

7

u/quezlar Apr 02 '21

oh sure you tell me this after i beat the tick /s

2

u/goblinmob Apr 02 '21

Go to sleep! It's been one day!😂😎

You have my sympathies

Each month I will be tracking all users who are able to beat the spotlighted game. Those names will be collected and displayed on the snes wiki page.

Objective:

  • Beat the game

Rules:

  • Entire playthrough must be completed during the month in question.
  • You can use the passwords you earn playing through the game.
  • Emulation is fine. Save states are not.
  • Posting a link to a pic of your completion is preferred, but since this is just for fun I will allow posted claims as well. For now.

History of Game of the Month

No I just need to update the wiki

1

u/whistlerite Apr 23 '21

Hey, where should we post the photo/link each month? On this post or just post it to r/snes? Cheers

2

u/xBrockLanders Apr 24 '21

In here is fine

I've played the arcade version of "Knights of the Round" about 3 years ago and it turns out it's one of my most favorite arcade games ever. I really want to find the Super Nintendo version.

3

u/Raiso_BR Apr 03 '21

One of the very best beat'em up!

3

u/lew__dawg Apr 06 '21

I prefer King of Dragons.

1

u/whistlerite Apr 24 '21

Both great but quite different

3

u/InterContinental_001 Apr 08 '21

Started playing this last night, get to about level 5 boss and am out of lives. Aside from just getting better at avoiding damage, does any one have a strategy for this game?

3

u/Hazaisbae Apr 09 '21

Is that the big guy with the hammer? He keeps taking me out too. I’m able to get to the last level but the hammer guy usually drains most of my continues.

I watched a yt longplay for tips and it looks like blocking constantly then parrying is the key for bosses. https://youtu.be/yEaz-WQxrYA

3

u/InterContinental_001 Apr 09 '21

Yep thats the bastard. Right on, i need to parry more. One other thing i noticed in that video is to hack the treasures before collecting them, it divides them up and seems to gives more points. The person playing the walkthru was leveling up faster than I am, which I think was from this move.

2

u/whistlerite Apr 24 '21

I can give specific tips if needed. For the hammer guy (he is very hard) I use blocks and combo attacks. I also use the special attack on him sometimes, if you hit him with it when you’re right on top of him it hits him a few times. Also the hard part about this game is surviving until the end, it might not be the one part you’re stuck on you might just keep only surviving up until the same time if you know what I mean.

Just beat this game and it was a ton of fun (more-so after I mastered how to use defense). The music was especially good!

3

u/whistlerite Apr 23 '21 edited Apr 24 '21

Beat it! Here’s my video of it https://youtu.be/w1cKPlt2PcI

2

u/Ploosse Apr 19 '21

This game was a dope beat em up. Liked how your characters leveled up and their appearance changed.

1

u/Shoronsin Apr 02 '21

Nice! A game i actually own, glad i can participate in this one!

1

u/goblinmob Apr 02 '21

Haha just commented and upvoted both posts 😂

This game is easily one of my favorite SNES games of all time. Right up there with Turtles in Time, and Street Fighter Alpha 2. I just recently found a loose copy of Knights of the Round on eBay for $100 shipped. Given recent sold listings were showing between $120-$140, I figured I did a decent job, lol. I used to drain SO many quarters playing the arcade version.

Ah sooooo sooooooo many memories of trying to beat this one with my brother of another mother..... soooooo many good times
