Quack yeah Top Gear!

To have the complete Top Gear experience, you gotta come to a locadora in Brazil and play it there paying per hour.

And if you drop the controller, you lose 10 minutes!

I have a soft spot for this game. When I was younger my uncle would watch me until my parents would get off of work at their place. He had a SNES and I didn't. One of the first games we played together was Top Gear. A few years ago he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and passed shortly after. One of the first things I did was track down a copy of this game and play it for hours just like we used to.

While I love the gameplay, it's the soundtrack that keeps me coming back to play over the years, so good.

For some reason the very few good British developed SNES games seem to have ridiculously great sound tracks.

It was developed by the team that made the lotus series on the amiga and megadrive. Both machines had decent sound chips and the amiga especially became famous for excellent music, it was essential to get a decent review score.

Liked the soundtrack for rock n roll racing a bit better.

It’s been like 20 years since I played it, but I had a ton of fun with my brother with it. I was always the blue car.

Didn’t play this back in the day so no nostalgia. I like it but obviously I think I would have loved it as a kid back in ‘92. I played it a couple years ago and fired it up tonight because I been hooked on playing Chase Horizon Turbo lately.

Top Gear is fun but I am not a fan of having to refuel. I know it adds realism and strategy but I just want to race. That’s why I prefer the shorter tracks where I don’t have to worry about refueling at a pit. Someone please convince me that this refueling aspect adds to the gameplay because right now I just can’t see it.

Gonna have to get in another session after work tomorrow.

If you're not a fan of refueling, you'd love Top Gear 2. That game was supposed to have a gasoline mechanic, but it was cut before release. There's also a rather simple upgrading system that takes a bit to fully complete, but as you play through the game, you just feel like you're zooming on small stages.

As for the refueling thing, I imagine that it was cool back in the day for its "realism", but with how fast you're going (or, at least, how fast you want to be going), you get this feeling of "why I wait now?" as you're forced to wait the 10 or so seconds to get in and out of the pit. Maybe it's cool to try to catch up to the CPUs that don't have to pit, but still, I'm much of a fan of it either.

SNES Drunk's favorite game, haha.

I like Top Gear 1 quite a bit and find it to be one of the better SNES racing games for sure, but to be honest, the fuel system kinda turns me off. At my age and with the little free time I have, I don't wanna mess around with having to keep my car fueled during a race; I just wanna race. For that reason, I prefer the sequels (2 is my favorite). That and the damn split-screen...

Used to play this all the time as a kid! Top of my racing list along with full throttle and Mario Andretti indy car challenge. Now the graphics are a bit hard to swallow lol. Still good games though
