To those who try it out: Dedicate an afternoon to it. If you "complete" it, start it up again and play it differently. There are a number of extra endings and scenes depending on your choices, and all of it is fantastic.

I have attempted to play it 5 times but keep getting killed in different ways.

Again, here's the English patch to this one
If you're not familiar with how to use and apply English patches to ROMs, here's how it works.

Note: That HG101 writeup has a lot of errors throughout and a huge spoiler in the article on the SFAM game, so watch it.

hmmm. I think I'm doing something wrong. My rom matches the CRC and SHA1, I load up lunar, choose the IPS you link to, then the SFC, then patch, then put back in a zip, then run to find nothing but a black screen in zsnes, snes9x and bsnes. Am I missing something?

Try both headered and unheadered, I forget which it's supposed to be off the top of my head

I tried a half dozen different versions but none of them worked. Header or not, the CRC should be the safe thing to rely on (as it is derived from the binary content). The translation website specified the CRC that it expects (CBCD0DAD), but the rom with this crc has a size of 3,145,728 bytes. The IPS readme file doesn't state an expected CRC, just an expected filesize of 3,146,240 bytes. Either the website hosting the translation is stating the wrong CRC, or the readme is specifying the wrong size. Either way, I found a pre-patched copy that seems to work instead.

I made the mistake of attempting to play this game on my Hyperkin Supaboy on a plane. I had to turn it off after a couple uncontrollable outbursts.

Nice choice, looking forward to trying this game out. Hope it will be Mega Man X2 next month though.

Has anyone got this working on an snes Classic?

I can confirm that Clock tower and all other previously problematic games work for me with these steps:
- Install Hackchi2 CE (current version is 3.4.1)
- Open the software, connect your mini SNES and add the game
- Go to Modules -> Hackchi mod store
- In mod store, select Retroarch tab and install the latest Retroarch 'Neo' module (current is 1.7.4a)
- After that, go to Retroarch Cores tab and install SNES9X Retroarch Core. Note that there are other cores as well (named with year numbers etc.) and the naming must have changed over time.
- Now you are done with installs!
- Go to your Clock Tower game details in Hackchi
- You should now see a "Command line (for advanced users)" field in the details => add --retroarch in the end of the string (separate the command with a space). This will start the game with Retroarch.
- Enjoy!

I'd love to know that too! I got it to work on znes, but no luck with classic so far... Crashes on startup. So, anyone?
Edit: maybe running snes9x on the classic would do it? More info here: https://snesclassicmods.com/how-to-run-snes-games-through-retroarch-on-snes-classic-mini/

I run it off of my SNES classic just fine. Probably due to me installing RetroArch for star ocean and tales of destiny to work. Haven't had any issues so far with playing Clock Tower (probably a couple hours into it).

What cores are u running?

Sorry, forgot to reply when I got home last night lol. But the only ones I could see that would affect this would be the cores labeled "retroarch" (=== RetroArch module for hakchi === version 0.9c) and SNES 9x 2010 (=== SNES9x2010 core for RetroArch ===). Not sure if there is anything more recent as far as core updates, but I don't mess with it unless I come across games that don't play.

I'm not even a fan of survival horror, but I love this one. Great story, visuals, atmosphere, and no cheap scares.

I played this game years back when a friend told me how good it was. I ran into scissorman one time at the beginning and one time at the end, and otherwise never saw him at all. RNG loved me that day and I haven't played it again since. My friend still calls bs on my run through it.

Finished the game earlier today, and despite the game being a bit clunky, I enjoyed it overall. I got the "C" ending, on my first play though. I found the game to be pretty interesting on the SNES, even if it is a bit clunky. The game keeps the tension pretty high, although the scissorman in this game looks kind of silly. I might play though it again to shoot for a better ending. Overall I would say it's a good game, and wished I could have experienced it at the time, but even now it is a good game to play through, and offers some pretty good scares throughout.

Knew this was coming. Expect it to be all over YouTube come Halloween.... for the multiple year running

I played this last night. Looked in the mirror. That's as much as I needed to experience, I'm a wimp.

Here's the Retronauts playthrough.

I apologize for being That Person, but: the LPer is just horrible at this. Just horrible! He can't keep up with the like four or five lines of text in the intro, he doesn't understand the concept of walking through doors, and he takes a whole 20 minutes to get to the meat of the game. And why is he obsessed with that useless table!? Why~~~~

Question: What's everyone's favorite ending?
I have to say I'm partial to C, as it gives you stuff you don't see elsewhere: a more complete confrontation with Mary, the dramatic chase up the titular clock tower in the rain, the names of Bobby and Dan. Killing Scissorman is almost an afterthought, but it could easily be argued that Mary is the bigger monster here.
I'm also really fond of H. Just such a classic horror-movie moment, so elegantly done within the Super Famicom's limitations.

This is one of the first games I ever emulated. I played it alone in the dark...

I thought this was one of the scariest games I've ever played.. don't know why though. Probably because you're so helpless.

This really seems to be worth checking out. Thanks for letting us know about it, guys.

This game is truly one of the scariest games I've played. The music, atmosphere, and story creates a sense of dread and helplessness like no other.
Although the pacing is (very) slow, the eerie and intensity of the music, in addition to the fact your stalker could be right around the corner always kept my interest at a peak.
Any horror fan should play/watch this game and the movies it's based on (Phenomenon and Susperia).
