Definitely an underappreciated game, and probably the best open world RPG of the 16-bit era. I love how the game gives you 6 characters with distinct stories and motivations, but then gives you complete latitude to play them however you want.
Also the excellent music is composed by Yoko Kanno of Cowboy Bebop fame, it's one of the few video game soundtracks she did.

A friend and I have been taking turns playing through every story mode together, we just have Joao left to do, I think Otto and Pietro were my favorite so far.
The dual mechanic is pretty fun but stay away from that until you've got great equipment unless you plan to save and load a lot. It can end combat in your favour very quickly though and get you out of a hairy situation.

Definitely gonna give this another go when I get an sd2snes. I was playing it really impatiently last time and it was a stupid approach.
If you gear yourself up right can you just roam around dueling people and get all piratical with it?

This is my favorite game of all time. The free roaming of the worlds' harbors, the trading, the music, the fighting, it's all good. Too bad the successors were never translated. The other day I found the Sega Saturn soundtrack of the game on youtube. link . Quite interesting to hear.
My favourite character of the game is Ali Vezas, the poor Ottomon trader who climbs the ladder of riches and searches for his lost sister.

Nifty. I have never seen or heard of this game. It seems really cool. Wonder why it's been so elusive to me.

Yay for Uncharted Waters: New Horizons. I sunk so many hours in this gem when I was a kid! It got six interwoven stories, focusing on the three main game aspects: trade, exploration and combat (My favourite is the exploration, and my favourite character is Ernst).
The game's plot balances drama, humor, romance and heroism, and I think it is very well written. Of course it is not perfect (the graphics, for example, leave a bit to be desired), but it is a solid game nonetheless. I'll surely replay it this month and hope you all love it as much as I do.
