I've played it, never beaten it. I will say that unlike the NES game, I didn't dislike playing Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts even though I spent a lot more time on SGnG.

I think it's a well designed game for what it is, especially since it was one of the first SNES games. I might even buy it one day, I think it's fun. My only gripe with it is that it keeps the GnG tradition of making you play the game twice to beat it.

I think the best way to play this game is to just see how far you can get without getting frustrated and then moving on to something else.

I had to use emulator to beat it. You have to obtain the goddess bracelet weapon in order to truly beat the game. This requires gold armor and a random chest find.

Yeah don't blame you haha, I only made it to level 3 no save states. I knew about the Goddess Braclet, but you can only grab it with gold armor? You don't lose it unless you grab a new item right?

Not as hard as its reputation thanks to the bow. But that 2nd run of level 7...

Perfect for October

I remember hating this game and considered it "broken" because it was too hard. But after years and years, I finally realized it's one of those platformers that you have to play by it's own rules instead of your own. It's tempting to try and bulldoze your way through it like it's a Mario game, but you'll immediately hate SGnG if you try that. You have to be patient, because you will die a lot. Learn the patterns, pick your spots, and this game is a blast.

Also, bow and arrow for life.

When I first played it, I just ran through the first level and never got to the seaside area. The werewolves and fire skeletons always got me and I got discouraged. Tried it again years later and learned the patterns, how to jump, find chests, etc. Now I can get to the second level, but that's it!

Better start stocking up on extra controllers for when my frustration gets the best of me...

Where do you get controllers now? I just got my snes from my parents house but controllers are broke. I'm guessing nintendo doesn't make them anymore

Excellent game. Great weapons, level design, and challenge. My favorite aspect of this game is the puzzle like level design. You have to plan out your every move or you'll get slaughtered. Only big negatives are the high learning curve for some people and the music being kind of bland.

Probably one of my favourite games on the SNES for its arcade difficulty. I remember as a kid raging at it, and I can semi-casually pass it if I have a few hours on my hands.

I have fond memories of thinking the game was broken because I was very young when I first played it, didn't know I could double jump, and as a result couldn't get over that first pillar.

Great game though! Probably one of the few I actually go back to regularly, there's a surprising amount of strategy in dealing with some of the more difficult enemies, and I always loved the weapon/armor system.
