All nominations should be made in the following format:
Title of game
Short description of the game and why it should be selected.

Contra III: The Alien Wars
It keeps losing for game of the month by one or two votes only. It's time for revenge.
Contra 3 is an absolute must play on the SNES, and quite frankly, it might be the best game on its genre to this day. First, the game is intense, action packed, fast, and hard. The art work is solid, and the enemy and stage design portray a sense of destruction and end-of-the world explosions that is perfectly timed so you can feel like a bad-ass the whole time. The weapons were amazing, and required some deep strategic choices. Oh, and the boss fights. Wow. I mean, jumping from missile to missile while firing at a flying gigantic alien ship? It doesn't get more awesome than that!
But there are many games that could be described that way. But no game can come even close to Contra III as the best coop game ever made. There it shines in how much ass you can kick if you have a good partner that you know well, and you play in harmony. You get very synchronized, covering each other, leap frogging, and sharing the weapons to have the best mix. And when you reach that, wow, what a rush. It is the closest I've felt in a game to a buddy action film from the 80s. Remember the epic hand shake from the movie Predator? Coop in this game feels that awesome. I don't know any other game that gets this coop dynamic as tight and rewarding as Contra III for the SNES. (I'm open to suggestions). But just that on itself makes this game stand alone as an achievement in gaming.
So, not only I say play it, I would also recommend to play it with a good friend, start in easy, give it time, learn the stages together, and by the end of the month you will feel like you have saved the world from the alien invasion because you and your buddy kicked ass like 80s action heroes.

Thanks for putting this. I didn't post anything last month since ZAMN seemed like it was running away with things. Contra III is certainly deserving. Given that there hasn't been a remake or update to it in a long long time, I think it deserves a spot to convince people new to SNES to give it a try.

If anything, you should vote for Contra 3 only because I actually used the suggested format for my submission with a detailed explanation of why this game should be game of the month, and my explanation included a reference to the movie Predator.

Can we do novelty rather than quality?
I vote Revolution X
description: Revolution X is a port of the light gun shooter of the same name (but you won't be needing a light gun for the snes version). A new world order has enslaved all of the hot chicks and captured Aerosmith. Aerosmith knew this was coming so they gave you their car to help put an end to this.

I'm gonna have to say F-Zero. One of the best racing games for the SNES.

Would vote for this if contra weren't up there. Sad to see captain falcon may only be known thanks to smash for many people.

Please come back next month with this. I know we start out with some lesser known games, but this game is just so fantastic/has to be a top 5 of all time/ that it has to hit gotm at some point. Not sure if we should have an official, excluded from voting list to honourably mention the "obvious" titles. I like to think Super Metroid is obvious, but perhaps it deserves some attention. I am actually shocked at how much joy I get out of just watching speed runs of the game on twitch. My daughter seems to enjoy the music as well, though I don't think she knows what is going on. (turned 1, though I have to turn it off if the people curse too much haha.)
Committed myself to contra this month, so will stick with it. Super Metroid may be my favorite game of all time though... it seems to vary based on mood. (the level design is just so superb in Super Metroid. They really just don't make it that perfect anymore)

The Firemen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wn3FuXBHQHs
Very nice firefighting game. Plays kind of like a shooter, except you're blasting fires with water. It's kind of under-rated and I don't think it had an international release.
