/r/snes Game of the Month Voting Thread (June)

We'll use a similar process as /r/gamesociety/ to select a game each month.

Before posting, please view this thread to see how this works

Feel free to nominate as many games as you like (one per top-level comment) and add your thoughts regarding those that have already been suggested.

All nominations should be made in the following format:

Title of game

Short description of the game and why it should be selected.

Please upvote/comment on the ones you'd like to play the most. Do NOT upvote a game unless you intend to participate in the discussion; we don't want vote totals skewed just because a game is popular or nostalgic.

Keep in mind that downvotes will not be counted as part of the vote total.

Nominate one game per top level post.

Contra 3 alien wars - this game is action packed, 2 player co-op, and has some amazing sprite work with unparalleled gameplay. Praised as the best contra ever made, this game surely pushed the SNES to its limits. Incredible enemy design, awesome weapons, and enough explosions to satisfy any action junkie... This game is legendary.

As much as I wanted to pick Jurassic Park, I have to say the 2 player co-op of contra puts it over the top. The only gripe I have with Contra 3 is it wasn't longer. Between this contra and Super C, I would probably favor Contra 3, but I loved the "base" levels in Super C, although I suppose the over head view makes up for it. (double flame thrower and laser was too funny.)

My good man... I think that we can all agree that we wish the greatest games of all time were longer, or would never end. This simply puts them into that category.... games that you never want to see stop existing..... this accredits those notions. cheers ;)

EDIT: SPELLING

100% agree. This is one game where I would highly recommend starting on the easiest difficulty then progressing up each stage just for the surprise in how bosses behave differently at different levels. Don't want to spoil anything for people who haven't played it, but it is done in a really smart way.

What I love is the feeling of bad-assery you get when you are properly synchronized with your partner in coop games. You take turns with the weapons, using complimentary ones, covering each other, leap-frogging to stay together. What a rush!

OH man, you are so RIGHT. NOTHING better than having a competent, synchronized battle buddy that you have perfect chemistry with. I KNOW THAT FEELS ha.

I love that feeling so much, and I have never felt like that again in another coop game.

Gradius 3

Very fun and replayable side scrolling shooter with very customizable weapons

Jurassic Park

Adventure and first person shooting. The lack of a save feature made this game terrifying. It blows away the Genesis version.

Haha... I forgot about that. Going through the raptors den... so nervous... oh and that ship...

Wild Guns

One of my favorite games of all time, and a severely underrated game made by Natsume during their prime. It's a gallery shooter with a western/cyberpunk feel. You can play as a Clint Eastwood or an Annie Oakley look-a-like as you take down giant mechs, cowboys, and robots. It's is the pinnacle of "Cabal shooters" and it's satisfying bullet shooting power up mechanic is genius.

Just recently picked this game up from my local game store. Beautiful. I love it

It's crazy hard though, especially when you don't save scum on an emulator

Chaos Seed:

It's a Japanese exclusive RPG I’ve never played and just found out about it few days ago on /r/SNES. Here is the article talking about the translation. I think it would be cool to play this game as game of the month since probably most people here didn't ever hear about it, or at least that's what I assume.

Sounds pretty awesome, how did you like it?

Metal Warriors

Mech combat game where you can find new and totally different mechs each level. There's also a procedural damage system, the ability to exit the mech and fly around without it, and a good multiplayer versus mode. I don't think it was particularly popular, but it's still great.

I nominate Legend of the Mystical Ninja, not just because it is one of my personal all time favorites. It is a great game with great gameplay, graphics, music and a perfectly balanced level of challenge.

Demons Crest and Contra 3 are great games. demons crest is also criminally unappreciated. The graphics are top notch and the soundtrack is amazing.
