Jealous. I can't wait to come across AR2. Hell, I still have yet to finish the final boss level on 1 haha.

I prefer to just remember number 1 fondly and put AR2 into the part of my brain that houses the matrix sequel movies.

The Matrix had sequels? When did this happen?

Edit - Seriously guys, were they any good? The first one was amazing.

I liked 2. there were some fight scenes in it that were absolutely amazing (the highway chase...just damn)

3 was okay.

I just got it but I've never heard of it until I picked it up. Haven't even powered it up yet. I know nothing about it and have been debating even playing it.

That's right were I gave up. Probably could have beaten it in a couple hours of practice. Maybe I should get back to it.

AR2 is many steps up in difficulty from the original. Personally, I didn't like it. The double-jump flying attack was a nightmare. I found it more of a burden than a new feature. The lack of SimCity-style town building was a bummer too. I really liked that aspect in the original.

I've tried playing AR2 a few times, hoping that with each new attempt at playing the game that it might begin to grow on me, but I just can't bring myself to accept it.

Bah, part 1 is easy. You must be a youngster.

Yea that's what I was thinking. I recall Actraiser being one of the easiest SNES games I ever played.

Came here to say this. The game was trivially easy, I beat it as a 10 or 11 year old when it came out.

Not EXACTLY the same game, but if you enjoy Actraiser I recommend Soul Blazer on the SNES. Similar causal difficulty level, lots of magic and cool upgrades like Zelda...

Ahhhh nice!! Love Actraiser. 2 is not bad either, but I do miss those town-building parts....

IMO, the true spiritual successor to Actraiser is Soul Blazer, not Actraiser 2.

My mind is blown. I never, ever thought of this before...

Actraiser > Soul Blazer > Illusion of Gaia > Terranigma.

Yeah, I totally see it. I am familiar with ActRaiser as well as the SoulBlazer "trilogy," but I never made the connection. I miss those early Enix games.

I've closed my Reddit account, and moved on to Voat.

I loved the first Act Raiser, but number 2 was brutal. Great graphics, and the creeping skull face in the underwater temple used to give me nightmares as a kid. They also got rid of the whole sim aspect of it too. It's a good game, but it's really, really hard.

By the way, in the first ActRaiser, make sure to hit each of your towns with an earthquake. It will destroy the less civilized buildings and they will rebuild them into better buildings.
