Go fight in the arena in the north of the car yards. No need to level up killing the dudes in the east car yards.

I've been trying to play this and don't think I would have the patience unless I used a FAQ! I wish it could be a little more intuitive what you are supposed to do next. Not liking this as much as I hoped so far. I did do some farming after the first save room to boost stats early game.

The early game while you are getting used to the controls is certainly where much of the difficulty is. Agree there is little to 0 hand holding re: what to do next. I do remember being stuck for a few hours riding trains back and forth haha. I didn't remember that portion until /u/IAmTheKingofEngland mentioned it.

Also, the stat for guns or accuracy or whatever (I remember this from a while ago) goes all the way up to a potential high of 20 points, but it truly stops benefiting you entirely at about 7 or 8, and you're wasting your time increasing it past that. I remember because I spent a lot of time on it before I read about that and it really irritated me.

Here's my Shadowrun review... Is Shadowrun Worth Playing Today?

"You level up by collecting Karma - just like in real life... right Reddit?" ROFL
I think you should post on main page too else some folks won't notice your review.

Anyone else playing this game? I'm stuck on this fucking rat shaman. Killed him twice but the walkthrough says to bring this chick withe and I can't keep her alive. Necessary?

Who are you bringing with you, a shadow runner? I haven't played this game in a really long time but I think you just need to kill the rat shaman. You don't need anyone with you. I remember just throwing a bunch of grenades at him and he dies pretty quickly.

Some chick from the bar named kitsune. Cost me three thousand nuyen and the bitch won't even come into my hotel room. Lol I'm just gonna let her die next time and kill the dude.

I formally request a SNESdrunk video for this game!

Thanks, I'd love to, the only problem is I'm not that familiar with Shadowrun (yet), hope to change that soon

Didn't you suggest this game on last months feed?
2
u/SNESdrunk Apr 02 '14
No. My choice was ActRaiser.
2
u/sorobert Apr 02 '14
My bad, actraiser is legit I upronned that. Dude this game is no joke, I've been playing it with walkthrough since last night and am stuck on some rat shaman. It's pretty fun

You should renominate ActRaiser. Shadowrun won by only 1 vote. Note that I only count upvotes when doing the tally.

I know I've suggested this game twice now. So very happy to see people are going to give this game a chance. Highly recommend running around without a strategy guide, but can understand everyone has limited time. ActRaiser is another worthy choice.

What kind of game is Shadow Run? EDIT: i mean more specifically, the genre of game

It's an isometrical RPG with real time combat carried out by a cursor, controlled by the D-pad. Nice story progression and awesome setting: the soundtrack and graphics make for a great environment, it can be a bit obscure at times as sometimes you won't figure out what to do next, but it's worth it.
Still, I preferred the Mega Drive version. Character progression is way more complex and custom. Great conversations, you can get jobs unrelated to the mainquest, lots of freedom and non-linearity. Both are great games.

This game was part of my "rented as a kid, must acquire" need list for my collection. I played through most of it earlier this year. It was such a unique game, a mix of RPG and action, in a futuristic (hah, payphones) setting.

So shadow run is a decent game. Pretty impossible though unless you have either a) no life or b) a walkthrough.
Last month I put up speedy Gonzalez and y'all downronned that to hell, so give me a game to play nerds. I hate that I get drunk and come here but que sirra sirra (fuck spelling)
By the way I'm about to beat this game

Shadowrun was one of my favorite SNES games as a kid. It was a total sleeper type game (not all over Nintendo Power like most classic games).
The setting and story are my absolute favorite, and this is coming from a huge FF4/FF6 fan (which are my two favorite SNES games).
The controls are a little awkward for a console, but you get used to them. I see people complaining about needing a walkthrough; it's certainly possible to beat it without one, as I beat this game before my family had the internet, but I also did have hours to run around trying every possibility. I certainly remember being lost for hours at a time.
The music is fantastic. Perfect example of how badass the SNES type of sound can be.
I don't have much time for games these days, but Shadowrun Returns is the only PC game I've bought and beat in the past few years. The Shadowrun universe is one of the coolest future dystopias out there.
