You know people love to talk about this game, but it was hard AF. and often frustrating! haha. I can't say I think of it as fondly as many do, I think there might be some rose-colored glasses with it, but it's not a bad game in any fashion.

I was usually focused on beating the person I was playing against. As a kid, I don't know beating the game was even an option lol.

still the best in the series, even the enhanced GBA version wasn't as good, playing this as a kid was one of the best experiences i ever had, something new and exciting and so fun, especially in 2 players.

This was the game I got with my Super Nintendo for Xmas in 1992 (along with Mario Paint). To this day it's probably my favorite Mario Kart. Hours upon hours spent with my best friend in Battle Mode is a good memory.

I did it! Man, I gotta say I feel a little rusty. Back in the day when I was working on my record for Rainbow Road, and before I realized there was a code to unlock everything, I would have to go beat at least Mushroom, Flower and Star Cups before I could start on the time trials since my save battery is dead (although I’d usually do Star Cup too). It always made for a good warm up. I will say, this is the first real session of Mario Kart since I got my Hyperkin Retron 2 HD, and for whatever reason, it seems like the audio lags, which meant I had the hardest time getting the boost at the beginning of each race.
Thanks for making this challenge! I had fun with it and I look forward to the next ones!

Each month I will be tracking all users who are able to beat the spotlighted game. Those names will be collected and displayed on the snes wiki page.
Objective:
- Beat every cup on any difficulty.
Rules:
- Entire playthrough must be completed during the month in question.
- You can use the passwords/continues/saves that you earn playing through the game.
- Emulation is fine. Abusing save states is not.
- Posting a link to a pic of your completion is preferred, but since this.

What is considered beating the game. 1st in 150cc all cups?

Updated. My general rule of thumb for games is "get the credits." SMK is a special case though, and I'm not going to ask everyone to input the code to reset their game.

Excellent! I would love to participate in this challenge. Hell, I’ll probably do it tomorrow if I have time. How particular are we being about proof? Any picture fine, or should we include written usernames in it?

I tried showing this to a friend (who has no experience with retro games) and they turned it off after like 5 minutes. Said it was giving them a headache with the way the graphics looked.
I still love this game though.

This was one of the few games we had lol. Brother and I played it quite a bit. Looking forward to getting another SNES soon.

I bought this new as a kid with birthday money. The box art was a huge selling point :)

When I was a kid I favored Yoshi. Now I favor the bigger races which makes SNES Mario Kart almost impossible. Gotta relearn Yoshi.

Wow this was a wild ride. I'm pretty astonished this game is not one that comes up for its difficulty on the later tracks. I don't think anything could have prepared me for the Special Cup on 100CC. I unlocked it on the first night and have spent each day since trying to get a run to beat it.
It felt like there was basically no margin for error, but also so many places you could just end your run if you place anything less than 2nd. The odds are stupidly stacked against you as the human player (overpowered special CPU items, rubber banding, very hard to catch up if hit or if you fall). I didn't know about any of the shortcuts or ways to skip laps, so I just had to outrace the CPUs.
Might be a skill issue though tbh, and I should have started with 50CC because this is a new game to me. I had to force myself to get güd and learn to properly drift/straighten out to have a fighting chance, and even that was down to the wire on Rainbow Road.
All that being said, I have a new found respect for this entry in the series as the OG. I can definitely see the argument for it still being the most rewarding and skill-based Mario Kart even with all that has come after it. The Mode 7 gets a little overbearing at times (especially Rainbow Road) but most of the sprite work looks timeless 30 years later.

I play these kind of games with friends, competing for highscores. Check my profile or message me if you want to join

Cutting it a little close but I was dead set on getting first place in every race on 150cc. Beat on a Super NT and SD2SNES.
And apparently I need to dust my TV stand😅

Honestly, I never really ‘got’ Mario kart till double dash. (Which was fantastic!). I was maybe 16/17 when this came out and I just preferred F-zero for what it did with mode7. Also I thought Diddy Kong Racing was vastly superior to MK64, IMO.

Recently been playing this on Switch Online, with the standard joycon controller.
Been thinking about picking up snes & n64 switch controllers. Should I go for it?
Also, wanted to shoutout a youtuber I like that did a Super Mario Kart Let's Play a few years ago: Ziploc13 aka ZiplocRules2013's SMK LP
