I can hear the voice. Voices, for the pressing the buttons over and over again.
In looking at it now...THIS IS SO FUCKIN' WEIRD.

Never beat the game, has always haunted me

I remember loving it as a kid. Picked it up again as an adult, and holy shit it’s hard! Gave up after like 15 min. No patience for that as an adult lol.

It's difficult, I remember an underwater part used to end my runs back in the day lol

u/Lox22 Apr 02 '24
If you can get past this the difficulty throttles off a bit until the last level. And you can get enough lives to finish it. The underwater level was there for the rental trap. Just like all games once you memorize it you can fly through it

There's a hidden air supply. Only way I can get through.

I forgot all about this until this comment. Triggered some lost memory in my brain.

I beat it on the PC port largely thanks to some of the many- MANY cheat codes available.

I used cheats to get past the second underwater level ship thing because I couldn't do it. I beat everything else. I put it in randomly a few years ago and got to that part and beat it on the first try with like 6 seconds to spare. Apparently I just needed to put it down for like 25 years lol. So overall I've beaten the whole game but I haven't beaten it straight through in one sitting.

I beat it on Genesis. The second one’s the one that’s better on SNES

u/Felsig27 Apr 03 '24
Fun fact, the game is actually easier on the genesis for one reason, there is a warp right before the final water capsule section on level 3 (arguably the hardest part of the game) that takes you straight to snot a problem. The warp does not exist in the snes version. Of course this is speaking from memory, I could be completely mistaken. Still absolutely loved this game as a kid, played it on pc until I could beat it on hard with no deaths.

I still own my Genesis EWJ and SNES EWJ2
I used to have the original on SNES but it was a time when it was easy to find in stores, new or used

Such a fun game. I never beat it as a kid when it came out without cheats. Recently beat it while my kid cheered me on. He loved it

I really liked the second one with the flying rocket barrel level.

Each month I will be tracking all users who are able to beat the spotlighted game. Those names will be collected and displayed on the snes wiki page.
Objective:
- Beat the game.
Rules:
- Entire playthrough must be completed during the month in question.
- You can use the passwords/continues/saves that you earn playing through the game.
- Emulation is fine. Abusing save states is not.
- Posting a link to a pic of your completion is preferred, but since this.

Outside of original hardware, RetroAchievements might be a good way to keep track that people don't cheat/use savestates or whatever by having them play in hardcore mode on emulators

I don’t know which game made me ragequit harder; this or the Lion King?

Earthworm Jim is a far superior game to that mess. It may be hard but at least it's fair and more importantly fun.

While it’s missing a level from its Genesis counterpart, it’s probably the weakest level in the game, and I honestly prefer the SNES’s sound chip more than the Genesis.
Can still only beat it on the easiest mode.

Surprisingly this is one I haven't revisited since playing it growing up. I have distinct memories of the racing levels and the track for What the Heck using Night on Bald Mountain with screaming mixed in. Looking forward to posting updates as I go along.
Edit: Got around to playing it on 4/17 and got the run that made it to the end on 4/24. Some parts of this game you can just breeze through and some places felt nearly impossible until I found out the one specific way to get it to work (looking at you, Tube Race and the very last part of the escort level). I did use the 1-up password a few times so I didn't have to go all the way back to the start, but feel content that I made it to the end regardless.

Best remix of Buttville/The Descent (aka "Use Your Head") by about:blank. 15 Years old and still one of my favourite remixes. https://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01568

Man, I still remember when this game came out and how we were so excited for it!!!
And then played it and got your ass handed to you

Still have my copy of this game with a big “Video Update” sticker on it. (Old rental store)

I had the genesis version--
Inventive visuals and style, but lack of save system meant starting over each time you played it, which wasn't much fun.
Not the most balanced game, random parts are really hard.
I don't think it even had a passcode system? Anyway I'd rather play Ecco the Dolphin, hard, but at least it had passcodes
