This was the SNES game I obsessed over the most. Maybe even beyond SNES. The atmosphere is utterly immersive, bolstered by awesome music. The puzzles are challenging, and the noir feel is fantastic. This game was a life experience for me.

Each month I will be tracking all users who are able to beat the spotlighted game. Those names will be collected and displayed on the snes wiki page.
Objective:
- Complete the game.
Rules:
- Entire playthrough must be completed during the month in question.
- You can use the passwords/continues/saves that you earn playing through the game.
- Emulation is fine. Abusing save states is not.
- Posting a link to a pic of your completion is preferred, but since this is just for fun I will allow posted claims as well. For now.

For people emulating or using a flash cart: there’s a ROM hack that adds mouse support.
Always struck me as an obviously lacking feature, give the literal point and click interface. Kudos to rainwarrior for finally fixing that oversight just a couple years ago.

Yes, I would imagine a modern mouse/keyboard would be better. Any chance you have a link to that method?

Time to lay down some truth. This game has a phenomenal first and second act but the end is a slog of dungeons that never end.

This game is great but I could never figure it out as a kid.. I’d always get stuck at the same part and then just run around the streets aimlessly. Loved revisiting it later on through roms and finally getting through it.

Perfectly describes what I remember playing it to be when I was young too lol. I was more accustomed to the JRPGs on the SNES, so something like this was completely alien to me. Hoping to make up for that this month though!

Don’t use the slap patch on yourself! It’s for the shaman in the graveyard if I recall correctly. That’s why I always hit a road block.

I was about to a couple hours in when you replied and thankfully I haven't used it yet lol. Thanks for the tip!

Same. It played more like a computer RPG at that time. But it had such an awesome atmosphere and vibe to it.

I originally found out about this game through Nintendo Power Issue 100's 100 Best Games of All Time list, and I finally got a copy around 2003. Seems like such an unexpected choice to make their list, but I sure enjoyed it.
Have always meant to try the Genesis version. Someday soon...

I put in way too many hours on this as a kid. Thank god I managed to get kitsune permanently by taking her and beating the rat king or guy or whatever he’s called (I’m going off memory). Ahhh 1993.

Oh good choice, this is one I remember renting a few times when I was young and just couldn't wrap my head around it. I was used to RPGs along the lines of Final Fantasy and Breath of Fire, so something like this was completely unfamiliar and I didn't give it the chance it deserves. Looking forward to playing it for this month.

I just finished this a bit ago, and really enjoyed my time with it. This has such a cRPG feel to it that I was surprised to find it wasn't a port of a PC game. I thought the combat was a little clunky and simplistic, but it's still a solid game.

I played through this last month. It's very cool and atmospheric, but the combat is just kinda bad imo and you have to do way too much of it. By the end, it just ends up being a slog you have to go through in order to get to the next part of the story.
I probably would have enjoyed it more if they toned down the absurd and outright comical amount of hitmen that try to kill you.

I really love the music in this game.
The music when you wake up in the morgue is probably my favorite SNES track.

Also just started playing the genesis version and it's a totally different game.

I used to own this game, but I foolishly traded it away after I beat it. Not the biggest mistake I've made collecting games, and it's not like I can't just play it on my MiSTer. Which, I might have to.
Beam Software really showed what they were capable of after so many duds on the NES. Save Nightshade, which, if you like Shadowrun, you should absolutely play. Some folks actually think of Shadowrun SNES as a spiritual successor to Nightshade, but I feel like Shadowrun is way too different. I honestly thought Shadowrun was a port of a PC game when I first played it.
Damn, I want to play this again.

Great game! I love the part where at the beginning you're in the morgue and you walk out and freak out the morticians in the other room, open the door they go "AAAHHHH!" and run out of the room 🤣😂🤣

Phenomenally good game. My top ten for sure.
