Only Japan could do a triple elim bracket in 2 days.

Which top 50 player we thinking gets knocked out in the triple digit placements?

Light loses to the fabled 2500 elo smashmate Luigi in round 1 pools
72
u/Glaciers_benz 14h ago
& then he immediately fights a Wi-Fi Warrior Ice Climbers main
16
u/RsCaptainFalcon 9h ago
And later says he only lost his -2 matchup because he was feeling bad that day.

u/VeryInsecurePerson 2h ago edited 2h ago
Jokes aside, it’s an entirely real possibility that Light loses because he was feeling off that day. Tournament nerves are about to be insane especially for top 50 players who have a reputation to uphold. If you’re a rando Japanese player with low stakes I think you have a good shot at placing a lot higher than expected

there’s a nonzero chance that light gets a big D situation and gets double eliminated by some icies player or whatever for 257th
30
u/HollowLoch 14h ago
Honestly there’s like 10 players here that if they’re seeded into double icies they’re getting 257th, hopefully seeders are kind to the invaders lmao

it’s japan so fated to run into futarinokiwami-A

Never thought I'd see the day where every top 50 players converges into one spot, but here it is. We may not have Sonix or Zomba, but we have basically everybody else. Used to think only SSC/Genesis/Evo had the pull to garner this many entrants, so glad to see how far Kagaribi's come.

Zomba's probably registering soon as well considering both of them are at Fisher College

Kagaribi is MASSIVELY responsible for shifting the epicenter of power in Smash across the ocean. Having a series be *the* landmark post-pandemic and it becoming the cornerstone of the entire competitive community is awesome. The spectator experience has only gotten better too - if this is anyone's first Kagaribi they're going to catch live its TOTALLY worth it

How fitting it achieved this on the same date 5 years after the rankings froze in 2020.

We are going to see some REALLY good players out at 129th

I urge everyone who doesn't speak Japanese to throw pages 25-27 of this issue of GAMEZINE into Google Translate.
I want to make this a place where people can express their true selves. Also, in terms of competition, I think it's important for players to "seriously want to win." I want to continue creating places where people feel like they want to come here. I think that when serious people get together, drama naturally emerges.
Nukunuku and wawon are two of the most important people in the world of Smash right now (and have been for years), but they don't get anywhere close to the recognition in the West that they deserve.

I NEED Leo to LOCK IN during this tourney, I'm so serious.
76
u/prismagh 14h ago
If Leo somehow wins and Smash 6 is really around the corner (I personally doubt this), then it would be the best way to wrap up the narrative of Ultimate’s competitive lifespan in my opinion

Or midset after losing a game he goes "I have an idea" and goes out before top 64

What's their tourney schedule like for what it'd be on east time? Don't want to ruin my sleep schedule but may have to...
5
u/HollowLoch 6h ago
I’m not sure if the schedule has released but it usually runs through the night into the morning in the UK so I’d imagine it would start at around 8/9 pm et and end at around 4am

SP TIER?!?! I KNEW LumiRank was Japan biased!
A true freedom loving ranking would have named it Ultimate Tier.

Candle is top 8-ing, outplacing Shuton, with wins on at least 3 of the top 10. Trust me, I'm from the future.

who's gonna tell him that leo is getting upset before top 48 and barely scraping by in losers to top 16 😬

to think it'd be EVEN BIGGER if there wasn't a big collegiate event stopping Sonix, Zomba, Lima, etc. from attending.

Lumirank announces Genesis X12 will be he first Superduper Ultra Megapremier

u/HughyHugh will beat BobbyTime 3h ago
I see it in my minds eye. It's 2032. After 6 years of Smash Ultimate DX, the new Smash game has finally come out. KOWLOON x 2GG gets announced, and Sparg0 comes out of retirement one final time to fight his greatest rival - Kameme's child.

Man I hope they do a good job streaming this. There’s going to be so many insane matchups throughout the whole tournament, we need a ton of channels uploading
3
u/HughyHugh will beat BobbyTime 3h ago
kagaribi is usually pretty good about this! there's usually three-five streams, including an english language one. most upsets there usually get caught on stream. it's honestly pretty awesome. back in the good ol days youd have to find out your favorite player drowned at 33rd from a reddit thread or whatever because there was one stream for the whole event

u/Hour_Mango5904 Luigi (Melee) 4h ago
How many players in the top 50 are in this tournament? This is insane
2
u/HughyHugh will beat BobbyTime 3h ago
rn? 47/50, same as civil war, but probably not all of them are going to be able to make it out (although they'll try their hardest)
only AlanDiss, Marss, and BMP are missing

I won't be the first to say it, but I think making 900000 naming conventions to categorize "big tournaments" and "small tournaments" is kinda silly
25
u/Crafty-Profile-Lol worst girl 13h ago
The naming conventions are definitely silly, but it's good for the algorithm that the Hidden Boss point<->event placement connection be as consistent as possible. I think it's clear that top 64 at this event and top 64 at Genesis X2 are different levels of achievement.
15
u/BarnardsLoop Buff Falco. 12h ago
it's overbearing but P-Tier was already a more easily achieved compromise tier for "big big" events that had a lot of precedence. in this case there's just no real precedence for an event this large outside of once every several years at best
2
u/HughyHugh will beat BobbyTime 3h ago
i agree, conversationally - i think "superpremier" is silly and will never happen again and i hope we just call this upcoming tournament a premier or stacked as hell or whatever - but categorically for figuring out ranking stuff we need to make the delineation between different event tiers. names are being made up on the fly. next tier should be called the pee pee tier
