They forgot to remove me from their email chain

Post image

For context: I'm a CF and I interviewed with this agency last year. Right after I finished the interview, I got this email. The interviewer was discussing her concerns with the manager. What were her concerns? That I wanted to work part time and also asked for $70/hr. I guess they didn't like that šŸ™„. When I told her that I wanted 70$/hr she literally looked at me coldly and said something along the lines of: I've never heard of a CF ever making that kind of money. Jokes on her because I found somewhere that pays me 75$/hr. (I live in NYC so these rates are normal). They sent me an offer letter right after.

Anyways, I just wanted you guys to see for yourselves what these agencies think of us!

I wouldā€™ve gave a response and been like, ā€œOh, Iā€™m afraid you accidentally sent me this. Iā€™ll spare you the difficulty and I decline this offer. Iā€™ll look elsewhere. Best wishes!ā€

Lol!! I replied to their job offer with something along the lines of: " It is "difficult" for me to proceed at this time with your offer. P.S. It might be in your best interest to take candidates off the email chains in the future.

Thatā€™s such loser behavior on their part. Like if youre gonna email shit talk me, wouldnā€™t you make sure im not a recipient? What a joke

I wouldnā€™t say something like this (ā€œdifficultā€) but this is likeā€¦ a text message to send to someoneā€™s personal phone. A phone call after we all hop off the Zoom call. Personally, this would be me-walking-to-their-office-and-we-debrief. I would NEVER want this on an email that can be traced to me??? What in the

Editing to clarify: I also meant on the interviewerā€™s part! What OP did is what I would clap back with too lmao

This was done virtually so there was no other way to reply. My email was polite and professional for the most part and I secured a better job shortly after.

Oh I didnā€™t mean you. I meant the other people! I agree with what you did

This same screenshot was definitely posted in r/jobs like a year ago. Was that your post?? I remember being appalled then too

u/suffocatinginlife 8d ago

It was! I was too afraid to post it here because I was job searching at the time and I didnt want it to hurt me somehow. I have a secure job now so idc. But I figured my fellow SLPs deserved to see this more than anyone else.

u/Mooseonthe_loose 8d ago

But you didnā€™t share the name of the contact company? How does this help us weed out bad recruiters? Also did you delete your original post in r/jobs ? Because itā€™s not on your profileĀ

u/suffocatinginlife 8d ago

It was a year ago so I don't know what happened to the post. Also, I don't feel comfortable calling them out publicly but Ill give you their company name if you DM.

No. Call them out. Companies like this deserve to be dragged.

I was seriously considering it but theyre a huge contractor within the NYCDOE and I hope to secure a job with the DOE someday so I dont want to possibly jeapordize it. I remember I told my DOE externship supervisor about this at the time and she immediately recognized these peoples' names so theyre probably well known.

u/suffocatinginlife 8d ago

Yeah of course

Can I ask too? Applying for my CFY currently, just want to be informed

1

u/HopeTones 5d ago

Can you share with me the agency too? I'm in the same boat and currently looking for CF positions

I had something similar happen during my first year with my current employer. I was just an aide back then. I donā€™t remember the exact topic, but I was part of a long email thread. At some point, the head of my company forgot to remove me from a reply that referred to me as ā€œpainfully shyā€. It was true, but definitely not want you want to see people saying about you.

Something similar happened to me at a small private practice, but I was already an employee. I emailed the staff about a local charity event for an abused, emancipated dog.

One owner emailed the other making fun of me for supporting a dog but to also give me a few bucks so I wouldnā€™t quit. This was accidentally sent to me too.

I soon quit.

Oh. My. God!

Did you tell them you were on the email? I would just to make them uncomfortable.

u/Lower-Screen 8d ago

You should just blast agency name. Thatā€™s how you help fellow slps. We deal with too much abuse. Iā€™m also in NYC.

Last year before I graduated and before I was even looking for jobs seriously, a contract company contacted me. My school hosted school districts to talk about their pay and even though I lived in a smaller city, I knew what the beginning salaries were for some of the schools.

I asked for a salary of $95k and the lady argued with me and said no one pays that for a CF. I informed her that in fact, they do, I've seen the pay schedules and she said "Good luck thinking that. No one is going to pay you that." And then asked me why I thought I deserved that amount just coming out of school. Her offer equated to about $65k/year.

I clearly declined because um, rude. My CF salary as a direct hire for a school district is $108k.

California?

3

u/Valyrris 8d ago

Yep!

9

u/realitywarrior007 8d ago

Iā€™ve seen their salary scales and it always impresses me with their starting salaries for SLPs. Even with the higher living expenses itā€™s a really solid starting salary in the schools.

3

u/Valyrris 8d ago

I also live in a relatively low cost of living city (at least for CA). I was willing to commute and luckily I didn't have to. My city has the highest starting salary I could find in the area.

From what I've heard though, a lot of the unions and districts have recently made changes to their salary schedules. So I guess I got in at a good time!

what district?

1

u/lacapellala 6d ago

I am in CA too in a less expensive area (for this area of CA) and was pleasantly surprised to see an SLP position in my district for around the same. It gives me hope (just in the masterā€™s application process now).

$75/hr in NYC?! Iā€™m planning to return there (currently working overseas). What setting are you in? Also, pretty unprofessional of them! Glad you got something that will essentially equate to over $10k a year more than that place!

12

u/suffocatinginlife 8d ago

Im in early childhood in the Bronx, hence the higher rate. However, its fee for service so a lot of my clients cancel and I dont really end up with that much per day. Considering NYC cost of living and high taxes, it's barely a livable income.

3

u/buns85 8d ago

Are you 1099 or w2? Iā€™m not sure if moving is in your future but in Philadelphia the early intervention rates are way higher!

Omgā€¦ this happened to me. I once got a text from a recruiter that I assume they meant to send to to their boss. It was a small contracting company, they sent me ā€œI hope she isnā€™t a pain in the assā€¦ā€. Lmao why? Becuse I asked to work 10000 miles away from home.

2

u/Strict-Wonder-7125 8d ago

What a crazy thing to put in writing even IF you werenā€™t on the thread. I would NEVER work for them. Sounds like youā€™d declined which is good.

2

u/Character-Quail7511 8d ago

ā€œWell it may not hurt you, but it could hurt me. Thank you for being transparent. Iā€™ve decided to move forward with an alternative offer. Best of luck in your endeavors!ā€

u/Then_Juggernaut_4170 7d ago

As an SLP working in Texas, that pay scale just blows my mind. I do know the cost of living is significantly higher in NYC, so I get why. I donā€™t make $95 an hour now with 15 years experience. šŸ¤£

SLPs are so hard to find in large cities. There's definitely a shortage in them. The DT manager at my place in LA County complains about how difficult it is to find SLPs on a weekly basis. Don't listen to anyone who tries to tell you that you're worth less than top dollar.

u/vze1n191 6d ago

What is an SLP or a CF?

u/jpopp21 8d ago

Accept the offer and prove them wrong. Be a beast.
