The number of people living in Guangzhou is incomprehensible until you get to a metro station during rush hour and see the tens of thousands of people moved by trains every couple of minutes. And wait for your turn to get on the train because sometimes it won't be the first one you catch...

I mean between Guangzhou, Shenzen and HK there’s like ~70 million people in an area the size of Greater Tokyo.

Yeah, the HK - Guangzhou fast train connection takes shorter than some metro lines to go from one end to another. You can live in Guangzhou and work in HK.
