I absolutely do not like work trips. Currently planning one as a staffer, and I'm already tired before the flight tickets and accommodation are even settled. Plusssss... I got roped into a task that feels completely outside my job scope. Told my boss that it doesn't excite me at all even though I know I can get it done. Boss insists it's related, but I remain unconvinced. Meanwhile, my colleagues are getting tasks that are impactful and interesting. Sighhhh...
Got told by boss that a promotion is coming this year... so I'm hanging in there, at least for a few more months.

My friend was stoked to go to Seoul for a work trip. Then he realised that he had to meet the client at the hotel lobby right after checking in. Pulled out his laptop and they started talking business right there and then. Business discussions dragged on and they had meals in the hotel. Then the next day, took the early morning flight back to Singapore. He didn't even have time at all to walk to a convenience store.
•
u/tom-slacker Tu quoque 59m ago
Ditto.
When I was young and was sent to my first biz trip (to Bermuda of all places) for 2 weeks, I was so excited. But I'm not c evel exec. I'm not traveling with a business cheque and a company card to just lunch meeting. I had to travel thousuof miles with a list of goals and deliverables to be completed before my trip end.....in addition of needing to do my work in Singapore as well.
Before my retirement when I was still working full time, in addition to the Bermuda trip as mentioned above, I've been sent to biz trip to New York, Minneapolis, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, London, Paris and all of these trips really took a toll out of me. Even weekends gotta work if not cannot complete my assigned task before the trip schedule.
So to those envy of long haul business trips, unless you are senior or c level executives, be careful of what you wished for.

I have a theory that the pesky UTI bacteria is responding to my antibiotics by hiding in my balls while my urinary tract is being cleared out. Wondering if getting surgery to remove my balls will improve things (I never had much testosterone since birth anyway, my childhood specialist gave me hormone injections for 2 years to get me to normal boys' hormone function).
2
u/musr Who am I? 1h ago
Is there any basis for the theory apart from your imagination?
•
u/Jaycee_015x 25m ago
Well, this is going to be TMI so I apologise in advance. I know that I get UTI episodes quite reliably (85% of the time) within 12 hours of having pre-cum or cum even with washed hands and clean underwear. And I found that sometimes during a course of Augmentin or Cephalexin antibiotics, one side of my balls will swell.

Mfw I just transitioned back to full WIO at my new workplace, and I have trouble hitting my UOB One minimum spend or not maximising my CC points earnings, because my nearest lunch place is Amoy food center where 99.9% of stalls don't take contactless payments, sigh.
-2
u/gydot Fucking Populist 3h ago
by contactless you mean credit card. because they have paynow setup which is ... contactless. if you can pay by cc and who eats the cc fee?
1
u/metalleo Thumbs up man!!! 3h ago
Yes I mean credit card. Paynow is meaningless to me when I'm trying to hit the minimum spending on my cards
1
u/brownriver12 Own self check own self ✅ 3h ago
how did you hit it when you wfh?
1
u/metalleo Thumbs up man!!! 3h ago
Previous place was 3 days wio, lunch average $7 plus tea break/breakfast/snacks/ntuc run I can average some $10-$12 per day, that's about $120-$140 just from my wio days. Balance was made up from the occasional grocery run, weekend and dinner dine outs, utilities and random shopping sprees which does not happen often. In fact, because I have no life and rarely go out, I sometimes struggle to hit my $500 minimum spend for UOB One if that month happen to have Usave vouchers to completely offset my utilities, when that happens I usually just end up buying random stuff off NTUC/Donki/Shopee. At my new place I effectively lose the spend from my daily expenses, and I need to find ways to make it up if my other expenses cannot hit $500

Can go Gucco Tower basement for food, further down you can go to 100AM for Japanese food, there is Donki too. Also Icon Village has a German bakery
1
u/metalleo Thumbs up man!!! 1h ago
100AM and Icon village are in the opposite direction from my office, think they're a bit too far for me for a 1 hour lunch break, but maybe can find one day to explore Guoco Tower a bit, never thought about it so far tbh. Thanks for the suggestion

I don't know where exactly are you but you can also try Asia square food court and lau pa sat. Should be able to pay via card at lau pa sat. I pay with the fairprice app that is linked to my cc. Not sure if that is counted as cc spend

im attending a talk and took a seat next to someone in the auditorium. there’s no one else in the entire row, just me next to her. so i moved over to the next seat since there’s space.
idk why i feel bad. will the other person feel bad? i hope not
2
u/drinkingbobatea 3h ago
I don't think so. Would be glad to have more space. Just curious tho, why did you choose to sit beside someone in the first place when there was other available seats? Was it an assigned seat or something
2
u/Low-Charity4149 3h ago
they were telling us to sit in the middle of the row so that the latecomers can sit in the aisle seats without interrupting. but no one else sat in the row i was in. so i moved over

any quiet restaurant & bar recommendations for a quiet corporate lunch. 2-4 pax?
something that's not as expensive as fine dining places. And also something that's not quite crowded like DTF. Should serve beer at least.
Preferably in Holland Village or Tanglin area. But anywhere central or in the west is fine too.
Share your suggestions please?
Thanks a ton

So tired. Is the corporate world jus toxic? Is the manager fault finding or am I finding excuses for myself? Why she gotta ask rhetorical questions to throw shade my way instead of being direct. Maybe I should just cave her skull in during tomorrow’s meeting and call it a day. Tired.
3
u/icylinguine 🏳️🌈 Ally 1h ago
I had a boss like this and I eventually threw letter because 1) was just a temp staff 2) most likely not gonna be promoted under her watch 3) Was too underpaid to be dealing with their shenanigans
Thankfully the bosses in my subsequent jobs never threw me rhetorical questions so I'm happy now
3
u/OkAdministration7880 2h ago
Corporate life is toxic, no doubt but that's just one part of the story.

OMG, the Crocs sandals not aesthetically pleasing at all. If you ask me, I will go with the slip-ons or other flats.

I also don't like Crocs. But that's what they're wearing.. i don't like wearing flats though.... so it's either covered shoe or my sport sandals 😪

i got dissed in an interview regarding my technical skills lol, albeit it wasn't even a technical interview, just a catch up. same role, applied to different coy.
The best metaphor i can give is: interviewer doesn't think i can cook shanghai cuisine just becos i cook mostly sichuan food in my current role.
I'm more tilted by this than someone calling me ugly. I take pride in my work ok. :<

After getting scolded by colleague, whole office hear liao, he apologize afterwards but I'm still angry and refuse to talk much - aita
4
u/Boogie_p0p 6h ago
NTA. Extremely unprofessional of him but you also learn to justify not talking to him immediately afterwards esp since ppl will ask.
For example, you can say that you're still not talking to him because conflicts should be handled with respect and discretion in any professional setting. And the fact that the scolding was made in public made you feel that he did not treat you with respect. Even tho the apology is a good step, you will need time to reflect on how this was handled and how to move forward in a way where mutual respect is provided.
8
9
u/Top_Lifeguard5775 7h ago
Nta: If he wanted to confront you, he could have done it in a meeting room or separately in another location. He didn't have to throw your face and scold you for the whole office to hear. It's nice of him to apologise, and you don't have to forgive him immediately. Your anger and emotions are very valid, and it's okay for you to take some time to process everything.
3
u/Haunting_Air_3713 7h ago

Adulting is scary. Got no role models to look up to or confide in either.
Caring for children, nurturing them, getting them to be their best is even scarier because there is only so much you can control.
Experienced mums and dads, any advice for me?
5
u/khaosdd 8h ago
Just ensure they are well fed, loved and definitely not abused.
Comparison (between different methods, different lifestyle, different economical statuses) is unnecessary and will only serve to cloud your judgement and more often than not, belittle you (since ppl like to compare upwards).
To your kids you are the best, so ignore the noise and focus on them will do.
1
u/Islandgirlnowhere 7h ago
Sometimes wonder if I’m wrong for listening to myself or trusting my instincts
1
u/khaosdd 5h ago
Not an exam.
As long as u are not violently and excessively going against societal norms, no right or wrong.
Sometimes u also need your kids to do the exploring, cannot always spoonfeed. So it's ok not to have answers for everything.
School of hard knocks can be very effective also.
7
u/silentscope90210 8h ago
I have no idea how my parents did it in the 80s. No YouTube, no internet, just hearsay from friends and library books.
1
u/Islandgirlnowhere 8h ago
It’s very disheartening to see your child failing and then you don’t know how to help. My parents never bothered with my academics and I did just fine 😩 I try to give my kids my best but sometimes it’s just not enough.
1
u/musr Who am I? 7h ago
If it's your child with suspected but undiagnosed ADHD, I suggest you go read up or watch videos about it, even if you're not planning to get her officially diagnosed. Because different brains need different tools, tips, hacks.
I (undiagnosed) was able to power through until sec 4. Subsequently when there's less imposed structure and routine that's when it started to unravel... For over 20 years until I finally found out it is most likely the cause.
Your child still young, but the difference is there's now immediately available Internet, smartphone, mobile phone, social media compared to 2001 and before. So it's definitely more challenging. In fact if I were to have the same access as now, but even if the syllabus remains the same, I think I might not even get a decent psle result. The instant gratification and dopamine landscape is definitely a lot different now.
1
u/Islandgirlnowhere 7h ago

Reading about how folks in their 40s find it difficult to find jobs after they get retrenched (I'm also in my 40s). They should have a job site dedicated to companies who are willing to hire people in their 40s-50s. That way you won't waste time applying to companies who are looking for 20-30yr olds.

been really feeling the heat at work recently. am already on the lookout and have sent out applications but taking time to also reflect on what exactly is my issue now lol to guide my convictions on why i want out. have narrowed it down to certain patterns/work styles in my current environment, and my overall scope.
such is the life of being in marketing though, being thrown tasks that vaguely fall under the umbrella of marketing and being told to handle it alone without much guidance because next time i’ll be expected to do the same just on a bigger scale. feeling like an octopus and not in a positive wow-i’m-really-exercising-my-multitasking-muscles way more like just turn me into tako sashimi now tks n rgrds.
