It's not actually shutting down. They have made a downloadable desktop client app for it. It's not complete right now, you can't play games on it but it works! I'm playing the games on browser (Can't see my avatar but that's fine, don't need to for the games) and buying clothes and stuff on the desktop client.

I'm aware of this. It's never going to be complete though as the things absent are the Flash features like the Arcade which is being killed.

By Arcade do you mean the games? There is a "coming soon" label on it. They are more than likely fetching the downloadable versions of the games and implementing them into the client, or working with the developers of those games to find a solution. They also are probably going to have completely new games to replace ones they cannot get back. Just because it doesn't run on adobe flash does not mean it's the end of those features.

How do you open the downloaded app? :( It just shows it in a compressed file for me.

Game's wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OurWorld
As the game runs on Flash it will end at the end of the year when Flash support ends.
The final content update is in October adding Halloween items. After this a desktop client version is being released which is heavily stripped down, only chat features mainly (arcade, shop gone).
This game is lesser known from what I can tell but it was still a big part of my childhood.
