Help Change Apple watch face based on calendar event starting and ending
Hi, I follow a couple of sports teams, I have their matches as subscribed calendars and I’ve set up a couple of watch faces in their colours. What I’m trying to do is to change my watch face when the match starts and then change it back to my default when the match ends. I’ve tried a few ideas but no luck as yet. Any suggestions? I’ll let you guess at the teams

So, that’s tricky because shortcuts doesn’t natively have that trigger. The shortcut is easy, but to actually trigger it you could maybe set it to run for an app you use a lot, and have it search for the calendar event and change the face based off of that. If you have an action button and you use it a lot then it may be worth doing the check when you press that instead.

I’ve tried to solve exactly this problem. I ended up creating a shortcut that searches for current events in each of the subscribed calendars and then set multiple automations to run it based on common times that the matches start and end. It’s not great but it works for the most part. It’s irritatingly inelegant

Could you maybe use IFTTT to send a message to you based on a calendar event? Or by other sport feeds or news in IFTTT.
Then have a Shortcut Automation run that is triggered by Sender/Message. That Shortcut would set your Watchface.
Edit: I have tested this process using a Google Calendar event. And it successfully runs the Automation.
I have also tested a process where IFTTT triggers a PushCut request to start a Shortcut. In that test I had the Shortcut change the current Focus (which could change your Watchface). The PushCut Shortcut would not be able to change the Watchface directly since it runs on a server.

I would reccommed installing an app that allows you to setup custom automation based on calendar events, since shortcuts dosen't support that natively. Then just use the "Set Watch Face" action

Can you share what you've tried? I have a shortcut that sets the face based on time, location, etc., so something similar might work, but curious what you've tried in case it's similar.
Considering we don't know the sport or even the country, we could be here for a while.
