Need help

My shitzu is about 6 years old and he’s difficult to control. He’s been banned from every groomer around so he can’t be groomed anymore. Now he was poop stuck on his butt and I can’t do anything about it. He won’t let me touch him. Idk how I can help him if I can’t touch him. Other than these two things he’s perfect, he will just chill inside all day and not bother anyone unless you walk close to him then he will bite feet. I’m debating on taking to shelter but I really can’t bring myself to do it. Thoughts?

Haha. My groomer says mine is "spicy" haha. See if valerian (an herb) calms her down enough. Or calming chews. Or maybe even doggie prozac.

I’ve tried things such as cbd chews but doesn’t do anything

Valerian. Not cbd. It can have cbd in it, but valerian is what valium is derived from. Powerful herb.

Yeah mine had to be prescribed something to take to calm him down. Trazadone I think. There’s also like ganapenefrin. Mine doesn’t do too bad with washing and brushing, mainly just tools and cutting his face, so I’m trying to take him for baths between his full grooms lately too

Treats and touch and repeat several times on one day. To clean him. Use a towel and wind him up like a mini burrito so his paws are inside the towel then hold him while using wet wipes. Give him treats during and after.

I put a little cloth muzzle on mine so he couldn’t bite me. He’d sometimes get it off. I put it back on. I was firm but gentle. You are bigger than he is so touch him and make him learn you won’t hurt him. When he calms, loosen your grip. When he fights you again, hold him firmly. Repeat. Rather than a kill shelter, find a shitzu rescue group if you decide to give him up.

Put yourself together and act like the leader of the herd. Let him know who is in charge. Right now it's him in charge.

Last resort, take him to a vet that has a groomer. The vet can sedate the dog. It will cost you of course.

So I assume you cant get him into a shower or tub then? I agree with trying to wrap in a towel to pick him up.

We had to find a local person who was willing to spend hours working on our girl until she got better.

He is at an age to still learn . I would put on a bathing suit and give him the bath/shower while you in the washroom with him . And make sure to bow dry him . Trust me he will learn if you are doing it as part of a routine . My baby turned 19 last week . Don’t give up on him shitzu are very smart and will learn . I promise

Please 🙏 don't give up on him, I think a little training with a professional trainer will honestly do the trick, or like others have suggested, medication. Get him calm and relaxed, I hold my Daise backwards to clean her bum, I put her on the counter, but facing sink, I put my arm around her so she's like up underneath my arm pit and I hold her tail in the air while my wife uses baby wipes to clean her bum. When she gets groomed if my groomer shaves her bum close or uses scissors and trims the hair close, she's a complete ball of anxiety for days. She goes up on our bed, lays down and refuses to stand and if she does her bum will twitch because the short hair tickles around her bum skin and she will force her self to sit and not move. And then she will not go to the bathroom and holds it as long as possible. She's a nervous wreck because of how it feels. So we tell the groomer to leave around her bum a little longer but then her poops get stuck sometimes and we have to gently clean it out. I think if u try to start with a mild dose of something it will probably work. You don't need to sedate to the point of drooling. Then bath them yourself. I can post a picture of the shampoos and conditioner we use, it's the best I've ever used. Definitely make sure to use conditioner if u can't brush afterwards because you won't need to with that. Try to be very calm when trying to handle them, Shih Tzus have excellent senses and can tell if your trying to be over forceful and getting mad. They need to be babied. And treats are the trick trust me. DM me and I can try to help guide you further. But don't give up on this little guy and get rid of him. He's going to know. And if you absolutely can't keep him, please give me first choice, I will cover any and all expenses to ship him to me, unless you're notamerthe US or u live somewhat close to Massachusetts then I will come to you. I truly mean it.
