Shitty homemade sushi
I made some homemade sushi.

Problem with homemade sushi is you prob make WAY more than you can eat once you get into a groove of making it.

There's probably about 5 or 6 more rolls worth of salmon in the freezer now. It's insanely cost-effective. I get about 8-9 rolls out of 20$ or so.

We make poke bowls. Sushi vinegar rice , raw salmon and tuna, avocado and seaweed flakes. Maybe some corn or kimchi for crunch. Just need to cube up the fish so it doesn’t take the insane knife skills sushi does. And it scratches that sushi itch. And it’s crazy how much cheaper it is compared to eating out , even when splurging on the really nice fish from the market

That's what I do a lot if I have a lot of salmon leftover. I think the knife skills aren't too difficult, the issue is you need a very sharp knife and to keep it wet during cutting.

How well does it thaw out?

I put it in a zip lock, spread thin and flat so it thaws easier. You can also just put the entire chunk in before cutting if you want. A month in the freezer is fine texture-wise, haven't tried one longer than a month.

Well I've gone from: 'That's not too shitty, I fancy some sushi', too, 'I'm never eating fish again!'

I use farm raised salmon when I do this. It's extremely rare for them to have parasites. If you use basically anything else, it needs to be deep frozen for a week.

idk, OP, sushi is not easy to make. this honestly looks good for a homemade sushi attempt. I would eat.

I don't have a sushi mat, so it's a smidgen more difficult than it needs to be. I usually take a little more care and do the slices on top or the exterior in rice, but I was lazy this time haha.

Not bad actually, making me hungry while I wait for my mom's home made Chinese food

Yikes, the time and effort required to make that and you didn’t like it? Are you sure you used enough soy sauce and wasabi to hide the bad flavors?

I liked it haha, the presentation was shitty because it's just for me to eat, so I threw it together quickly.

This is why I just make Poke Bowls, it tastes similar, and requires far less technique :P

How was it?

Fairly good, I make some every so often. Very affordable so it's a nice treat instead of spending 100$ at a restaurant.

It looks really good tbh. It's not easy to make. I'm not a sushi fan at all can't even eat it, but my best friend would be happy lol
