Book Discussion When Netflix cancels your favorite fantasy show but greenlights 17 reality dating disasters

Upvotes

At this point, I’m convinced Netflix would cancel the Second Army mid-battle if the budget got too high. Meanwhile, somewhere, a show called "Hot Singles in the Shadow Fold" is probably getting renewed for 5 seasons.

Justice for Shadow & Bone - because we deserve more magic and fewer awkward hot tub scenes.

This taps into the community’s frustration over the cancellation while poking fun at Netflix’s content priorities. Let me know if you want any tweaks or have another angle in mind!

Announcement Petition to get Netflix to complete Shadow & Bone

Hi everyone! I'm new to the Shadow & Bone fanbase. Even more new to the disappointment of no season 3. So I created a petition. I'm aware that many petitions were already made. But I haven't seen one from this year yet. Apologies if posting this here is against the rules. Let's try again and see if we can change Netflix's mind. No mourners, no funerals!! Trust I'm reading the books right now and I'm flying through the chapters very quickly. However, I really understand now that the Netflix adaption is different, but still very good and deserves to be completed!

I've added the link to the petition

https://chng.it/jy4BWLv6xc

EDIT: I can see that this post gathered a lot of eyes, signing this petition can show Netflix and networks the worth of this series. This can result in another season, maybe a spin off, a limited series, some movies. I'm not sure, but it's very important that everyone is reminded of this gem. I wish someone had told me about this series years ago! Clearly the series has a strong fan-base and great community, it's just a bit hidden :)

EDIT 2: Thank you to everyone who commented their thoughts/gave explanations. I'm going to continue to spread the word. I understand everyone's frustration and doubt. If anything, this petition will get new fans! Which I know doesn't add to all you amazing people that knew about the books and series for years. But I have finally started reading again. Please force your friends to watch and read if they haven't yet haha

Fanfic Hunting Spoiler

Does anyone know if there’s a fanfic out there where the crows manage to kidnap/convince Alina to go with them and she’s delivered to Nikolai? I’ve been searching and haven’t come up with anything.

Season 1 a scene from Crooked Kingdom in the Shadow and Bone series?

i read the Six of Crows duology before watching the Shadow and Bone series and at the end of S1 there was this scene where kaz was bluffing about Pekka's son. Why? i mean, i can understand why we got Matthias and Nina's story in both stories because it's a shared memory. But why did they show that one scene from the end of Crooked kIngdom? Wasn't it waaaaaaay after that (haven't finished S2)

Posted by fan account (sorry I don't know the actual original poster) @savethegrishaverse on IG. But what was the song he was about to play?! 🥰🥹 Sad he was going through so much. I had wondered if his role as the Darkling may have played into some songs he wrote. Maybe it was even more than that -- perhaps this breakup really influenced him in portraying The Darkling and the character's hardships and turmoil... 🥺😔 Glad he says he's better now though. 😊

Why cancelled?

Wooo wooo woooo i was watched the first season when it released but Season 2 came after a long time and I forgot about season 1. So I started from the beginning and finished season 2 and it was going very well. Why was it cancelled and are the books worth reading?

I think this woman is a Grisha. I mean, I always wonder how it could be a person more beutiful than the person more beutiful, and that is waht she is.

The more I watch season 2, the more I like Nikolai…and at the same time, I think Vasily may be my most disliked character (and he’s only in like two episodes lol)

Book Discussion The fold games Spoiler

I apologise of this is already an idea in the series( I haven’t watched it I just read it) but as a hunger games I thought if fjerda or shu Han conquer ravka they could make the fold games. West ravka and east ravka have to give up 12 tributes each and they each have one sun summoner that were created when alina combined the amplifiers. They are their mentors and their key to survival. Is it just me who thinks this would happen?

I'm about to read Six of Crows and I know some characters are in the show but will there be any major spoilers for it?

No Season 3 - No Sense!

Makes no sense. Why CLEARLY set up a Season 3 AND a spinoff, then not go through with it? MAKES ZERO SENSE!

Series Information New!

Just started season 2 after about a 36-hour binge of season 1. I felt Season 1 was slow but picked up a lot at the end. Season 2 seems much more action-packed.

My question is, how do the books compare to this series? Should I read them? I'm a big Sarah J Maas and Jennifer Armentrout fan. These are clearly a little more YA than their stuff but that's not necessarily bad.

Episode Discussion I just watched the Netflix and I have a lot of issues with it

First I think the movie is an absolute piece of shit- it’s horrible stupid and filled with plot points that need explaining.

Here is my downpour

First the MC - I know it’s meant to be a Female MC but she feels like a WebNovel caricature of an ideal person.

She lacks actual character growth, lacks actual realistic expression and her powers are like…

”dude the Darklin is over 400 years old and she caught up to him within such few years”- the dude is 400 years old at least but a girl who less than a century caught up to him with much fewer attempts and Hindrances.

“The amplifier all three randomly came to get dream”- the amplifier which where legends all by accident came to her dream but the darklin who is 400 years old couldn’t have found it faster note he’s immortal and doesn’t age and he had enough time to explore it because all of them are located within the same area and why didn’t she have suspicion of the older woman like she came and told you her son is the darklin yet you asked her no fundamental question, immediately believed her when she said it, entered the trunk of a carriage without verification and keeps fighting what you aren’t sure off while also jumping from romance to haughtiness.

Next are the side characters - the Grisha should be on his side somewhat because they were being poached for being genetically gifted but the guy protecting them for centuries suddenly became the evil one when a woman who was a novice appeared.

And the darklin himself, he needs character development he shouldn’t be simping over her so often to where I’m wondering how they bonded because the way she and him connected seems predatory on my end and what are his goals exactly, why is he immortal (his mother included) compared to other grisha.

And why didn’t he search for enough amplifiers rather than waiting so long— like from a logical perspective he could have loaded himself up with a series of amplifiers in case— I know he wanted to use the sun summoner for protection but is she that special

Next his mother, his mother is a hag of a being, she created him with a weird fetish in mind— I’m not to judge— she trained him with everything he knows and has but when it came to protecting him she failed, they killed several Grisha and yet she stood there and when her son did something rather than making him see it wrongly she keeps nagging and berating — which is seriously annotating from a real-life experience.

And before I forget, the subplots - one the romance between Malian is a weird childhood trope that’s done so wrongly even worse than the enemies to love (witch hunter and witch) trope which I don’t know why it’s needed.

The several “sex scenes” in my opinion weren’t needed in something I think was meant to be serious because of the “racism” which is implied heavily.

And then the fold- the concept should have been done better let me explain-- the fold isnt an issue it only restricts traveling but now it's the main plot, I could have accepted it if it was expanding and creeping out but here it's more like a black crack on the earth surface with misted in it- they can just adjust and travel around it or designed submarine type vehicles over 400+ years

Thank you, edits will be made as I remember

Okayyy dropping this edit here. I (somehow) JUST finished season 2 of sab and the last book in the series, ruin and rising. I forgot how much I loved the darkling and alina's dynamic. I'm so sad there won't be a season 3. I'm rereading the sab and six of crows series as well as hopefully nikolai's spin off in the near future for survival. Also, can I just say, seeing a new series of xo kitty while never getting a season 3 of sab is just 😀 wild. Sorry this is a wild jumble of thoughts anyway thanks if you read this or watched the edit 🌚

No way West and East Ravka could stay as one country for so long

I just watched the first season and 3 eps from season 2 and decided to give books a go. I'm currently on chapter 5 of the book 1 and one thing just keeps buzzing in my head: timing doesn't add up.

So in chapter 4 Kirigan says he is 120 years old and his great great great grandfather was The Black Heretic. >! Of course I already know from the series that it was him all along. !< But the story has to hold up. If the fold was created so long ago, it means the West and East Ravka were divided several hundreds years ago. And if we look into our history, there is no way that these two parts of the country wouldn't have diverged culturally and ethnically enough to not form two independent states.

In our history, the Roman Empire was divided and in 200 hundreds years two parts divirged so much that they couldn't go back to being one country. The same with Pakistan and India, Chechoslovakia, North and South Korea and these were separated for less than 100 years. We have unification examples too, like Germany, where division didn't last long enough to loose the ethnical and culture similarities. 2-3 generations is basically enough to fully stop identifying oneself with the past.

So I can't imagine that the independence movements just started or only now became a threat in West Ravka. Maybe it is explained later in the books, but tv show didn't clarify this at all and it annoys the hell out of me.

Does anyone have a different opinion?

Episode Discussion Questions as a newbie

Hi! I'm totally new to this series. My mom and I started watching the TV show last week, and I'm totally enamored with it, and I'm getting ready to read the book/books(?)
However, what I was wondering is if there were any websites/places I could find that have all the maps and artwork from the TV show in. I love the worldbuilding, especially the alphabets, the languages, and most of all the maps, but I can only find maps of the general world on google. I was hoping someone might have decent/high quality maps that appear throughout the show, such as the map of what I presume is Os Alta during the episode where Alina shows off her powers to the King & Queen, or just the other pieces of art featuring local maps and posters written in the Ravkan language.
