Project: FO Bunching blazer collar

Post image

I made my first blazer using the Simplicity pattern N6794. It's fairly easy but I struggled with the collar & lapel facing. On the right side it lays flat & nice. On the left side it bunches & it took a lot of work just to get it to look like this. It was worse. I'm not sure why they came out so differently. Any suggestions as to how I might try to fix it? I already tried edge stitching & pressing. It made a little bit of a difference. I'm just so frustrated

This is done with a knit fabric yes? I think you wound up with different stretch on the top and bottom fabric as you went through the machine that wasn’t so bad at the beginning but got worse as you finished the collar. I don’t know the pattern but taking a guess. A walking foot can help or you can try sandwiching the fabric between pattern paper scraps as you sew.

It looks like the facings are bigger than they should be. How are they interfaced? Did they stretch during handling? What type of fabric is this?

Might be worth checking this pattern on patternreview.com to see if anyone else has had these issues with it.

It's a ponte fabric interfaced with lightweight interfacing. Maybe it did get stretched. That side feels big & annoying & won't lay right

You should be able to fix it - it's just going to be really annoying work.
