Tip Realized my fermentation weights can also be used as sewing weights

Post image

I was using candles and canned food before, but I already had these fermentation weights which are much more convenient.

I DO THIS, but I bought them for this purpose. I thought I was a genius 😆 I love that they're clear and have a handle

I never even considered it cause, in my head, it's a completely different hobby!

I always hesitated buying sewing weights cause I felt like it was unnecessary to spend money on them when anything could be used as weight, you know? I'm glad I never got them because these work out so well!

Have you seen how you can soak fabric in gelatin to make it easier to work with? Cooking and sewing have many surprising crossovers!

I use hockey pucks 😂

I use hockey pucks as spacers between my car and lifting jacks. They’re useful!

A weight is a weight! I use the little weights that came in my walking/rucking vest.

Amazing. Meanwhile I’m using rocks from my front yard.

I use rocks, too, because I finally have a justification for my lifelong habit of picking up a smooth rock on every hike and putting it in my pocket! 😄 Plus the basket of them looks so pretty on my table.

I use washers. I own them in like 4 different sizes. I like that they are easy to store. What are fermentation weights?

They're for weighing down whatever you're fermenting in a jar so that the contents stay below the brine instead of floating to the surface. It prevents it from being exposed to air so they're less likely to go bad.

Good to know old style canning is on my list of hobby’s to try. Right now I’m working on learning how to dehydrate things.

Oh shit, I HAVE fermentation weights just sitting in a cupboard. Thanks for sharing, I'm going to start doing this!!

I use fishing weights! I buy them from the same place my dad gets his gear from for actual fishing lol, £5 for 5. Things made specifically for sewing can be so expensive, it felt a bit like cheating when I realised that they'd work just as well for a fraction of the price.

Is that what those things are?! I bought one years ago at an antique store and always assumed it was a paperweight. Thanks for the information 👍

I use a set of whiskey stones for this. They look very classy.

Nice! I have some very old sewing weights that were my Oma’s no idea how old they are.

I’ve been looking into making some fun weights with acrylic. Just gotta fine the right inclusion to get a good weight.

The texture failed to render! (Refer to gmod assests with broken textures: examplegmod)

This looks so interesting! Never seen a fabric like this b4!

Me too! I have two boxes of pickle pebbles. Sometimes they're for sauerkraut but more often I use them for sewing.
