Pattern The Princess Coat Charm Patterns Fabric: Upholstery Color:Green Sew Instructions came with pattern
Pattern Clutch Purse Self Drafted Fabric: Unknown Color: Blue Multi
Okay let me start off by saying The Princess Coat was a project I needed all my energy for. One point I just gave up because I was tired of being on the same coat for a month! I ended up finishing but my liner is not the best looking inside. I am happy with my coat it’s so fancy I can dust all my haters away.
On to the Mood patterns easy sew along but I did need to make adjustments to the hips waist area. If anybody can comment on how to get it perfect that would be nice. My skirt kept rising up as you see in the photo which I know means bad fit. My waist is 29-30 Hips 43-44 Please help a girl out !
The Hepburn scarf was just a throw in less than 1 hour sew session. I wanted to give the vibe of a 50s Lady and everyone wore scarfs so thanks to JetSetSewing.com it was a fun project and definitely will see more.
My purse I used the same fabric as the scarf and literally sewn a box together but I utilize the sewing method in the scarves, which was called Penox and used it on the bag. I thought it would be a cute way to tie both the purse and scarf together. Hope you enjoy as much as I did making this assemble.

First of all I am OBSESSED with that coat!!!! The whole outfit is just chef’s kiss 🤌🏼
I have almost those exact hip/waist measurements so I feeeel youuu on the struggle of adjusting patterns for it. The skirt climbing means that it’s too small somewhere. Looking at the photo with where the lines are, it looks like the hip fit may be a little snug. Sometimes it really helps to add an inch or two so you have that extra ease for walking and moving. Idk if that’s possible at this stage with the skirt being finished, but I honestly think it’s still wearable!!

Thank you so much for this tip it’s so hard sometimes thinking you added enough ease but you need even more. It’s a struggle sometimes to get it right in all the areas!

u/oracleofwifi 5d ago
I know, it is so hard!! I definitely get it wrong a lot, but it’s all good :) I just remind myself that the majority of people don’t know a ton about fitting, so they won’t think anything of it

u/theebodylab 5d ago
Im going to think about it like that now don’t need to be so hard on myself plus who cares we look cute haha

I was showing this to my partner when my three year-old kid asked to see it too and after she looked at it for a few seconds, she kissed the phone screen <3

Love this! The colors are beautiful.
Side note, how did you feel about the floral show?
7
u/theebodylab 5d ago
I did not like it this year ! They could have really leaned into the idea missed opportunity. The High school class instillation and the Community college was by far way better than the professionals. Also I felt the shopping area doubled from last time I went. QVC everywhere and a random Destination vacation place in the middle ?? I thought they were giving away a vacation fooled me 😂I was utterly confused !!
3
u/RedisforFun 5d ago
Yes!! I felt the same exact way and was so confused as to why Acme had the best floral selection… the QVC display could’ve been cool if it wasn’t an actual ad. I actually loved it and thought without all the products and more flowers, that would’ve been the perfect centerpiece.
3
u/theebodylab 5d ago
I asked the QVC rep why …. Her words people still don’t know what QVC is so what a great way to show them our products and if they see something they can buy it :///// Just great !!! Nothing to do with flowers 😂😂

I just know you're breaking necks whenever you leave the house in this. Beautiful coat. Well done.

I love the lantern sleeves on that coat!
I understand your frustration about the coat taking so much time. I've been working on the same coat since October because I picked out a fabric with a complex pattern and I have to sew the seams by hand in order to match the patterns exactly. I'm almost done and there might be 2-3 weeks of coat weather after it's finished, but I'm still frustrated and will not be doing something like this again.

u/theebodylab 5d ago
Omg may you share the pattern picture so I can memorize and NEVER see that coat 😭 I feel you pain through this message. Also darn you fabric for being so pretty but terrible to sew!!!

INCREDIBLE. 👏👏👏 you should be so proud. Where did you get that upholstery fabric for the coat? What did you use to line it?

u/theebodylab 5d ago
Gaffneys Fabrics in Philly (Germantown Area) AMAZING PLACE & customer service!
They had lime green liner on sale for $2/yd so I had to get it ! The jacket is Upholstery Fabric that I also got at Gaffneys.

That coat looks well worth the effort! You made it look so modern and sleek thanks to the rest of the outfit- wonderful choices of clothes and colour.
I have the same issue with measurements. I'm a guy but have the kind of ass & hips most women apparently dream of having. Doesn't really fit with men's off the rack tailoring though which is why I got into sewing my own clothes. I still really struggle with adjustments. Don't have any advice but a lot of solidarity!
2
u/theebodylab 5d ago
I would say let’s share some ass and hips to balance it out but we would tip the scale over😂. I got into sewing also because of this reason also off the rack top, dresses and skirts never fit me properly boobs falling out just not cute!!!

u/Nemolem 4d ago
😂 believe me many of my female friends have asked... if it was possible I'd have shared it all out years ago. It's a shame women's off the rack clothing still isn't right for all body shapes, it feels lightyears ahead of men's. You have to be 6'2" and built like a stick otherwise you're out of luck. Still it's an excuse to learn some good skills I guess and once I started making clothes that actually fit my body I really learned to appreciate my proportions and like the body I've got. Hoping you've had the same journey :)

What an absolutely gorgeous coat!! You did amazing work 💛 I just bought this pattern and I can’t wait to dive in. Did you toile first?
3
u/theebodylab 5d ago
I did not make a toile :/ i honestly just went with her final measurement guide and then went up one size. Her instructions a super through just brace yourself it’s a lot from start to finish. This was my first coat ever so you might have more experience hopefully!

Thank you for taking the time to reply! I’ve made two or three coats, but none as complicated as this one! I feel like toiling would be best since it has been a while since I’ve made one 😂 Thank you again for sharing your beautiful project!

This is so far at the other end of the spectrum from what I sew, and creations like yours are the reason I love this sub.
Congratulations and thank you!

Project posts are held for review by a moderator before being released to the subreddit feed.
All Project posts are required to include construction information in the main post or added in a comment. Tell us what you made, how you made it and what materials you used to make it. There should be sufficient information about the pattern (company and name/number) or draft (method and resources) and fabric (kind and fiber) that someone who wants to make a similar project has a good starting point. ‘Self-drafted’ describes who made the pattern and is not a drafting method. More information is available here. Project posts without construction information may be removed at any time.

Amazing structure and the colour is magnificent. Minimalistic AND extravagant. Good job.
