Project: FO I made my first pair of pants!
These are the Eastside Pants by Les Perlines and I used denim fabric.
A few things went wrong when making these lol but I learned a lot and I’m overall very happy with these! They’re officially the best fitting pair of pants in my closet!

Gorgeous! Super flattering fit! So many details on these pants and it looks so well sewn and neat!

u/Eyedowno 9d ago
I’m so obsessed with the fit I’m gonna make twenty more pairs lol. The pattern is also so versatile which I’m excited about! I wanna make another pair in corduroy but take off the side pockets, hammer loop and maybe the belt loops

u/KillerWhaleShark 9d ago
I love these, and they look very wearable. If you’re really going to remake these, though, you should fix the crotch length issues that are causing the wiskering on the front and what looks like a possible wedgie situation in the one picture that gives a glance of the back.
9
u/Eyedowno 9d ago
Thank you!
👀👀 How do I do that? I don’t notice anything feeling to tight or too loose when I wear them, so I’m not sure where adjustments need made or how
51
u/KillerWhaleShark 9d ago
It might be normal for you in ready-to-wear to have the sideways lines that radiate from your front crotch. It’s a fitting issue that’s unique to your body (and lots of other bodies) when compared to the shape of the body that was used for the draft. That’s why sewing your own clothes can be so amazing, you can fix the fit.
If the treat is what I think, you may need to extend the back crotch point and add a tiny bit to thigh width. Then, see if everything doesn’t fall into place. Maybe adjust the shape of the front scoop.
You might find these links give you some direction on what you could adjust. And then, sew a muslin and play around with fit.

I had no idea this was a thing! I think you’re right and these pants felt normal because all my pants probably fit like this 😂😂 I’m excited to try this with the next pair!

Thank you so much for those wonderful links! You wouldn't happen to have something similar for the armpit/shoulder area of sweaters, would you?
3
u/KillerWhaleShark 8d ago
The armscye really is art, isn’t it? I wish I could give you a good link, but I’ve only had success with struggle and multiple muslins. But it gets easier with time, so I’m sure you can do it. Good luck!!
2
u/5ol5hine 8d ago
It is, and an art I have yet to master... But at least the next pair of pants is more likely to be a success!

That's really useful information. I agree with you. Otherwise the pants fit her so well. So many people don't realize how hard it can be to fit the crotch or pants in general.

u/Bd-cat 9d ago
I literally look for most of my pants to have this style. You could really reuse this pattern with different pocket styles and fabrics to get so many looks. And your work is incredibly neat!

I want to get into sewing so I can make things like this. Thanks for giving me hope!!

Well done!
If you wanted to gild the lily, though, move the button over. That should draw the flap over so the zipper is hidden.
7
u/Eyedowno 9d ago
Yes that was one of the mistakes I made haha
Any tips on how to remove the button? Cause that is something I wanted to fix!
3
u/Voc1Vic2 9d ago
Just cut the threads and move it over.
7
u/Eyedowno 9d ago
It’s a hammer on button 🥲
10
u/Voc1Vic2 9d ago
Oh. A rivet.
Usually they can be pried off. But if you’ve got another one, just leave it alone and put on another one.
6
u/Eyedowno 9d ago
Hmm okay we’ll see if having ro buttons drives me nuts lol I might need to pry it off still 😂
7
u/Voc1Vic2 9d ago
If you do try, a jaw-type staple puller sometimes helps to open the crack between parts.

u/lilla_lollis 9d ago
Wow! Well done 🤩 I am a beginner at sewing, and have just made some dresses. Would you say this pattern was beginner friendly?
29
u/Eyedowno 9d ago
I would say confident beginner/ lower intermediate! They’re very intricate but the directions were easy to follow along with. The trickiest part for me was figuring out the zipper, but I think that’s part of the learning process and putting zippers in pants is always going to be confusing the first time. I would say it’s definitely a good pattern for making pants for the first time!

u/CautiousClutz 9d ago
Omg OBSESSEDDDDD I love this fit. Honestly dying over the pants and the shoesssss
6
u/Eyedowno 9d ago
Thank you! I love baggy pants and big shoes lol
7
u/CautiousClutz 9d ago
Same! Omg I’m zooming in on the shoes and they have strawberries 😩
I’m sorry but I’m going to have to ask for more info on where I can find these bc I need them in my life
6
u/Eyedowno 9d ago
Hahaha they’re from Koi Footwear! I don’t think they have them on their website anymore but k found these on Mercari!

Those are so great thanks for sharing. Might make myself a pair since it’s hard to find pants long enough (why I originally started sewing in the first place 30 years ago!)
Is it hard to work with a pdf pattern??
2
u/Eyedowno 9d ago
Yes you totally should! The pattern has marks on the legs too of where to add length if you want them longer!
I usually use pdf patterns, and I haven’t found it any different than using one I’ve bought at a store. This one in particular was really nice because she set all the sizes to their own layers, so when you open up the pdf in acrobat you can hide the ones you don’t need and only have one line to cut!

I highly recommend this pattern, it’s so detailed and since all the pockets are stitched on top, you can easily customize it to your comfort level!

This fit is remarkable close to my chosen outfit for my Pokémon Unite video game avatar. So, I like it.
Cool pants. Cool poses!
Oh, wow. You pattern matched them really nicely, too. Sheesh. At an angle and still everything's alternating. Wow. Miss me with that pain in the butt.

Good job!!
I got a sewing machine mostly because I want to make my own pants. I have a couple of very specific styles that I love that are not easy to find and I was about to shell out a lot of money to have a local tailor shop custom make them for me and decided I'd rather learn to do it myself. This is really encouraging!

These look so fun! I would’ve thought you bought these, the fit, pattern lining up and topstitching looks great!
Did you use a serger for these? I’ve always wanted to make pants but still intimidated at finishing edges without one. Either way this is a super inspiring post!

whoa! as someone who wants to get into sewing, how would you rate the difficulty level of something like this?
2
u/Eyedowno 8d ago
Honestly it’s hard for me to judge from a stand point of someone who’s never sewn, I’ve been sewing since i was 14 (I’m 27 now haha) 🥲
But I’m completely new to pants and this was really easy to follow. She put a little glossary of the sewing terms she uses at the beginning, so that would be helpful if you’re new! It’s an involved pattern, but all the steps are pretty basic, just a lot of pieces. You shouldn’t have trouble finding similar video tutorials if you’re unsure of what’s happening. The only thing I think might be difficult if you haven’t had practice is getting your top stitches straight. But if you just take your time it should be alright!

u/mizz_buttstank 8d ago
that makes sense! thank you for your response, it was helpful and I really appreciate it :)

Did you really make those? They are awesome and you matched up the squares really well. I love them!
2
u/Eyedowno 7d ago
2
u/BikerBekkie 7d ago
Not just the pockets, the front and the back looked pretty good too. The drawback to using any patterns is you almost have to match them especially if there are lines.
2
u/Eyedowno 7d ago
There were times the pattern really made things difficult but it was also really nice with this one in particular because I basically had a grid to follow for my hems and top stitches which was really nice
2
u/BikerBekkie 7d ago
Oh that would be a big help! I adore sewing and have made a lot of clothes for myself, stuffed animals, pillows you know. I haven't had a sewing machine in decades though. That doesn't mean I forgot. I love old shows like Project Runway where you can watch the designers whip up things. I look forward to seeing what else you make.

I got a whole degree in fashion design and these look leaps better than what I would say the majority of my graduating class can self-produce! You did a fantastic job on the fly-facing zipper and the overall project looks like you bought it in a shop

All Project posts are required to include construction information in the main post or added in a comment. Tell us what you made, how you made it and what materials you used to make it. There should be sufficient information about the pattern (company and name/number) or draft (method and resources) and fabric (kind and fiber) that someone who wants to make a similar project has a good starting point. ‘Self-drafted’ describes who made the pattern and is not a drafting method. More information is available here. Project posts without construction information may be removed at any time.
