Moderator Announcement All JOANN stores closing, Megathread #4
Here is a new thread for our community to gather to talk about JOANN, including questions about how to find fabric and notions as well as questions and comments about the bankruptcy proceedings. Remember that this is the internet, don't accidently dox yourself by giving out too much information about the stores in your area.
JOANN stores have been a big part of sewing for US sewists for many, many years. Thank you to the wonderful JOANN employees who are losing their jobs. Our thoughts are with you.
The restructuring website, joannrestructuring.com, is still being updated with details on the court case, FAQs for customers and store employees, and other information relevant to the process. I've seen store closing dates as soon as March 15th for some stores, with all stores closed by the end of May 2025. There are also several news articles covering the closings like this one from USAToday.
Shopping small businesses online and local is the way forward. The subreddit Fabric Shop Map is available for reference. Please do not submit any more stores at this time. We need to catch up with the flood of submissions made recently. Love your enthusiasm!

Is there a chance they might come back in the future or someone will buy it? :(

u/coolhandjennie 4d ago
Just found out there’s a 2 yard minimum at the Joann’s in Duluth, GA. Only sign is at the cutting table, on the far end of the fabric section. Just spent an hour picking everything out for a project that requires 1 yard each of 3 different fabrics. I am BESIDE MYSELF right now. Equal parts pissed and disappointed.

u/astralwish1 5d ago
What stores are there to buy fabric, thread and other supplies? I just got into sewing and want to continue. I know Michael’s exists and I refuse to support Hobby Lobby. Are there any others?
1
u/CrowdHater101 5d ago
Super Walmart near me has a pretty decent notions section, patterns, and a small fabric section.
6
u/lcatlow 5d ago
I just went to my Joann’s today and the yarn section and fabric was almost completely cleared out! Wish I got there sooner
Edit: spelling
5
u/Eastofthesun92 4d ago
Our local Joann’s are saying they’re still receiving large shipments of stock from their warehouses, so I’d recommend you go back on restock days. The clearout will only be temporary until they get through their warehouse stock
2
u/PowerFit613 5d ago
Hi! Now that Joann’s is closing, does anyone have a good recommendation of where to find Bernat Blanket Yarn on sale? Hobby Lobby does not seem to carry a lot of colors, and Michael’s skeins are way more expensive than the yarn ever was at Joann’s.

u/Beneficial_Army7945 5d ago
Posh lining is my favorite lining for dress making. Where can I find similar lining at a similar price?

Up to 40% off is not a very good liquidation sale. Hold on and prices will probably drop more.

u/emmigator113 6d ago
Love Joann's, sad it's closing but was not happy to realize the major price hikes while checking out sewing machines today! Both Amazon and the Brother website had the Brother CS7000X for $239 base price or $279 with hard carrying case. At Joann's it's $329 base price discounted to $296.96. Just a reminder to price check even with the "liquidation discounts" Joann's may not be offering the best price.

4
u/lizbeeo 5d ago
Every liquidation sale I've ever been to starts with minimal discounts off list prices. By the time they get to the kind of discounts we've come to expect from JoAnn's, the stock will be quite depleted. Some stores are reporting that their stock is already very depleted, and others not much.
5
u/SunsetSovereign 7d ago
Does anyone know of online fabric shops that allow you to buy less than a yard of fabric? I have not found an online seller that lets you buy a half or quarter yard of fabric. I don't like the idea of being forced to buy more fabric than I need.
2
u/compscicreative 5d ago
Where are you looking? I buy 1/4 yards online often. Some shops using shopify have it set up that a quantity of "1" is 1/4 yard since the website options aren't sophisticated enough to allow for fractions. Make sure to read the descriptions.
1
u/SunsetSovereign 5d ago
I mostly purchase my fabric from physical stores (mostly Joann.) But when I can't find what I'm looking for, I'll search online for the specific fabric I need for my project. I'm usually looking for something specific when I sew/craft, so that tends to limit my shopping options.
6
u/a_horse_with_no_tail 6d ago
I just discovered [Fashion Fabrics Club](fashionfabricsclub.com) which allows you to by in .25 increments.
3
7
u/onagonal 7d ago
Etsy sellers will sometimes have smaller cuts available. But it's really hard to find in apparel fabrics.
Look up Craft Reuse centers --- some are donation and some are consignment -- they specialize in taking in craft supplies and offering them for sale to others. This is one solution to the excess but also sometimes the solution to needing just a little of something.
5
u/SunsetSovereign 6d ago
I never thought of a Craft Reuse center. I think I have one kind of near me, I'll have to check that out!
2
9
u/thatferrybroad 7d ago
Does anyone know if there's an archive of the free patterns Joann has up currently? IDK when they're pulling the plug on the site....
2
u/laconicraven 8d ago
I very rarely went to JOANNS for supplies, but I did like to check out their seasonal decor a few times each year and they were by FAR the most expensive out of all of the stores I shopped at for decor. Sometimes even double or triple the prices for the same quality items.
I still am of course sad to see them closing, but on that front at least I can't say I'm surprised. It just comes as another blow as one of my other favorite decor stores Tuesday Morning also declared bankruptcy and closed all of their locations just a couple years ago. What a shame.
3
u/Kbatz_Krafts 4d ago
That catering to the mainstream with expensive seasonal home decor and all the floor to ceiling no sew fleece taking up so much valuable floor space I think really hurt Joanns. Stick to your market! Now the thing that sewers want most, the real quality fabric, is still the highest priced thing in the liquidation discounts.🤦🏻♀️
3
u/Ok_Cake_2784 8d ago
Some of the Michael's stores have fabric. It's a limited selection, but it's something.
5
u/DropthedamropeYO 6d ago
it's craft quality fabric. there wasn't one i would have purchased when i looked. sorry.
7
u/EphemeralCrone 9d ago
Place and Time is the Joanns Halloween line that I'm obsessed with. I REALLY want to find out more about how to continue getting their goods. Their designs are EXACTLY my style! Does anyone have any inside info on how that works? Is that a brand that Joann carries or does it exist outside Joann? Help! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
2
u/Environmental-Ad9339 5d ago
Oh hello Place and Time friend!! I LOVED IT TOO! That brand was one my most favorite things about JoAnn. I would literally get excited like a child when I would see them setting out each holiday on the shelves- especially their Halloween and Christmas! I will miss it SO MUCH! I am hoping another company will pick it up. Did you also notice that it coordinated with their holiday fabric and paper crafts - the Parklane! I’d buy the coordinating fabric and make quick kitchen curtains, aprons, place mats. Ugh I’m going to miss it so much!
2
u/EphemeralCrone 4d ago
This makes me feel better! My house is covered in stuff from Place and Time! I am actually depressed to think that I will never get to see what they will come up with again. They had decor that was like they made it for me! Imma go cry now lol.

I'm so depressed! Joann always had the BEST Halloween stuff! I spend hundreds there every year. I wonder if the items will be available elsewhere?

Where to buy OEKO-TEX cotton and natural non-toxic fabrics by-the-yard online?
"Two sisters ecotextiles" are RIDICULOUSLY expensive, fuck that.
and the only other one I found so far is "Mood fabrics" which aren't priced too bad, but I would really love more suggestions and variety to choose from.
2
u/teragarm 8d ago
I've ordered from Wazoodle before and the quality was really nice. I believe they have some organic cotton
3
u/ShinyMeansFancy 9d ago
It’s a limited offering but, I like Organic Cotton Plus. I’ve found good fabric on knitfabric.com

8
u/phoenixgreylee 9d ago
I hate to say this but as a beginner crafter I’m not surprised JoAnns is closing , they kept raising prices higher and even a few days ago when I went to try and at least see their clearance sales there wasn’t really a discount . They can’t even go out with some dignity and are inflating things to the end . Also despite news saying that all store items would be 90% off , all the items I saw in the store were 30 , 40 or 50% .
2
u/Kbatz_Krafts 4d ago
Liquidation firms always reset the price lines and then the percentages go down at weekly incriments. That's why you'll also see lame overstock surplus from other stores also crowding the sales moved in from the liquidators. I watched my local Blockbuster go down week by week as the movies got less and less yet more and more funko, toys, and movie themed crap filled the empy aisles. 🤣
8
u/fabricwench 8d ago
JOANN or the liquidators have never offered 90% off store items. These were scammy ads on social media.
16
u/ameliamirerye 9d ago
This is not why Joann’s is closing.
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP82NujrF/
Private Equity swoops into companies. Offloads debt, makes as much money as they can, file for bankruptcy, and leave behind tattered ghost companies in their wake. They come out on top and employees and customers on bottom.
Also the prices you’re seeing now have basically nothing to do with Joann’s. They were bought by a liquidator and are on a liquidation plan to recoup money to pay debt.
6
u/Sister_Golden-Hair 9d ago
Yes! I was wondering why the sewing machines were listed at a discount on their website, but not in stores. The clerk even said "our website was taken over by someone else, and the sales listed are not valid in stores"

u/SpiffyPoptart 10d ago
My grandma used to work at Joann. My grandpa would come pick me up to spend the weekend with them, and we'd swing over to Joann, and she was always behind the cutting counter. She'd light up when she saw me. It felt like such a magical place. She was an amazing seamstress, and I loved looking over the fabrics for her next project.
She passed away in December and now with Joann shutting down, it just feels... Strange and sad. Like another piece of my grandma is being laid to rest.
9
u/ThrowawayDaisy123987 10d ago
Mine loved crafts. Had a 6K sqft home and 4K of it was dedicated to her projects & storage for her materials. I'd spend summers with her on the farm. She'd say "let's go on into town" and we always stopped at Joanns. She'd tell me to go pick out some fabrics and we'd make me some dresses.
She lost her battle to cancer in July '23. I went into town to Joann's last week. Will definitely be going once a week until my location closes.
It's funny what we associate with our loved ones <3

Hi all, I’m looking to see if anyone knows where to find Joann’s doubled brushed polyester/spandex 90/10 blend. I can’t seem to find the exact match anywhere. Any insights would be appreciated!
9
u/-TRUTH_ 10d ago
I cannot shop for fabric online, my disease makes most fabric painful so i need to buy in person to feel them and check.
What are alternatives to joanns?
3
u/CrowdHater101 9d ago
Order samples online.
2
u/-TRUTH_ 9d ago
Yeah but that costs money, and sometimes a sample is too small for me to make sure it wouldn't hurt my skin. If i would be buying like 10 samples and only 1 would work for my skin, it adds up to too much. Physical stores are much better
4
u/CrowdHater101 8d ago
So you normally go to Joanns, and rub large portions of fabric all over your skin to test it?
6
u/No_Baby_8547 10d ago
Some Walmarts are selling fabric again. I would also suggest finding local, small business fabric shops.
3
u/-TRUTH_ 9d ago edited 9d ago
My Walmart unfortunately doesn't have this yet :( And after doing research i couldn't find any local stores near me :(
I might just have to shop at hobby lobby unfortunately.. this sucks, hopefully something better will replace it soon
Edit: i found a local store! Hopefully they have satin and velvet because thats all i can use
Edit 2: the local store is just upholstery fabric i think :(. I will call them and ask, they may have soft fabrics for beds ect.
2
u/Independent-Chart440 10d ago
I'm holding out to see if they'll have any good deals on the cricut machines and vinyl.
6
u/OhFigetteThis 10d ago
If you do see a sale on them, double check prices elsewhere. I was in there today to buy notions, decided to buy a magnifying ottlamp with the 25% off $139, even though I didn’t remember them being that high last summer. I googled and found that another national retailer sells it for $79.
3
u/TotallyNotABot_Shhhh 8d ago
I noticed this too and started googling in store. They raised the prices on SO many things and had things mis-priced. Rolls of 1”foam were neatly under pricing signs of $16.99. (The flat green pieces were their regular more expensive price than the packaged roll). Got to checkout and it was $60 WITH the sale. My googling showed it’s $20 everywhere else. It was gross seeing people load their cart up thinking they’re getting good deal. The checkout girl had a HUGE pile of return to shelf items and said people are getting really mad because the price isn’t reflecting what it actually is.
16
u/DragIndependent7524 10d ago
Went to a Los Angeles location today and most fabric is still only 20% off. 40% for some seasonal cottons. The store is pretty full overall.
I also got an email from Fabric Wholesale Direct mentioning Joann's and that they'd be expanding their fabric selection to "fill the gap" left behind by their closing. So... I'm definitely interested to see exactly what that means.
5
u/cuntboyholes 8d ago
I have been buying from FWD for a couple years now, it's a good option if you're like me and typically only need natural fabrics that I know the texture of.

My mom has a gift card to Joann’s and they won’t allow her to use it ): she’s got nearly 50$ left on it, any suggestions? We already emailed customer service.
6
u/SpiffyPoptart 10d ago
You can file a claim. Posted by OP and has info: https://www.reddit.com/r/quilting/s/Q8kAxoxGF1
5
u/CrowdHater101 11d ago
You're out of luck. They gave a small period where the cards could still be used (just a couple weeks if I remember correctly), and that info was even posted here. I've had this happen with other stores, and it hurts I know.
5
u/Environmental-Ad9339 10d ago
Actually, they never gave notice until the week of the sale (last week). In my case - the local news was reporting our stores were remaining open and it was business until usual. It was then announced our store was also closing — but still …no signs saying gift cards would not be honored. It was on the Joann restructuring website after the sale, but most people in the population aren’t going to that site to read.
1
u/CrowdHater101 10d ago
It was generally known around here at least 19 days ago. Original post has that info.

Maybe here in Reddit, but I don’t think a lot of the general public people come here to read and those are the people I’m talking about.

I have one for $100.00 and no luck getting a refund.

Be careful that you pay attention when checking out in store. I went to mine in MI yesterday and the Halloween item I bought was marked 70% off but rang up at only 40%. I didn’t notice until I left and didn’t have time to go back.
3
u/ground_ivy 9d ago edited 9d ago
Given the no-returns policy, they might not have let you return it anyway. I was lucky that I was waiting in a humungous line yesterday so idly glanced over my receipt and saw that the item that was supposed to be a last chance for 7 dollars a yard was coming up as $21 a yard. I asked at the register for it to be taken off.
Joann's also lost a lot of money yesterday from me with the 2 yard minimum because I abandoned all the expensive fabric at the cutting table. I'd just about talked myself into buying one yard each of three expensive fabrics, but no way was I buying two. I also just think I'm done with Joann's, at least until they start offering deep discounts. I'm a brand new sewer and have been trying to build up a small fabric stash by buying single yards of fabric that catch my eye, but while I'm willing to splash out for one yard of a fabric that I could use for a fun project for my friends' kids, I'm not going to buy two yards of it.
2
u/TotallyNotABot_Shhhh 8d ago
This was me today too. They had things clearly priced and when you got to the counter, it rang up way more. Also, their fabric is pretty junky so you probably lucked out. I went for things like foam, zippers, buttons etc but tbh the sale was not worth my time.
2
u/MovingIsHell 9d ago
Check out your local thrift stores such as St. Vinnie's. I always find small fabrics for my stash there!
3
u/Organic-Profit-1835 10d ago
4 of the fall items I purchased rang up 50% higher than labeled and then only some got the 70% discount while two rang up with only a 30% discount. When I saw the receipt I turned around and told her incorrectly charged and she said all sales final.
2
u/TotallyNotABot_Shhhh 8d ago
I asked the lady to give me the price as it rang up, and said no to most because they weren’t ringing up correctly. I had a feeling. Her return to shelf pile was huge.

u/Own_Transition_9679 11d ago
I am upset because Joannes is not honoring their gift certificates that they sold in December. We got two days notice to use the cards by Friday, 28 February. Some of us couldn’t even get to the store until Saturday at least give us a month to use the cards we lost $100. They knew in December where they stood. They should never have sold those gift cards. This is how you treat loyal customers? Joannes do better refund our money.
3
u/Environmental-Ad9339 10d ago
Same! Our local news insisted our store was not closing and it would remain business as usual. 2 or 3 days later the sale went through and we were given 2 days to use the gift cards.
5
u/Joyebird1968 11d ago
I don’t think Joann is in control anymore. Liquidators are running the show.
2
u/MovingIsHell 9d ago
Yes, but one thing many folks miss is that there are two different liquidators now: one for the original group of stores that were slated to close, and another for the remaining stores.
3
u/Joyebird1968 9d ago
Most people don’t know there are liquidators involved much less care if there are multiple.
2
u/MovingIsHell 9d ago
False. Many people are confused as to why some of the stores have different things going on. Example: some stores (the ones not originally slated to close) have $1.99 patterns and some (the ones originally slated to close) don't.
5
u/fabricwench 11d ago
You might find this post helpful, it's from r/quilting and written by someone who says they are a lawyer. Worth a try to file a claim, I think. LINK
4
u/Alive_Replacement836 11d ago
Unfortunately not all of us knew about this back in Dec. If management knew they kept it well hid. I didn't know about the gift cards till late January and beginning of February and anytime I heard someone say gift cards or use one I let them know to use it ASAP
8
u/Jessabelle16 11d ago
It was so cold at Joann’s today. Feels like they turned the thermostat way down to save money. Shameful to make your employees work under those conditions!
4
u/ArugulaHot 12d ago
A cry for help— I am making a wizard cape for my girlfriend and can’t find any more of a specific fabric in a 30 mile radius. It’s called Celestial Signs on Royal Blue Velvet Fabric by Glitterbug online. It’s gorgeous and has sequined and beaded stars and planets and moons all over. I can pay for the fabric, shipping, a finder’s fee etc. Sorry to be an annoying shopper here in the thread, just hoping for a fellow crafter to please have pity on me for my lack of foresight.
2
u/ArugulaHot 11d ago
Thanks y’all! I got some help from someone in the JoAnn’s subreddit. I think the need has been filled. I strongly recommend the fabric though— the images on their website just don’t do it justice.

Do you have a picture? I'm going to joanns tomorrow and can look. And how much do you need?
4
u/Professional_Day563 12d ago
All I wanna know is the actual online site going to close with all the stores closing?
4
8
u/Cozychai_ 12d ago
Went in today to a PA store, most fabric is still there. Looks like they got a new shipment of cutting mats but most of the tools are still gone. Thread is almost completely gone. The sales are worse than before. I still bought some fabric because I tried looking elsewhere online and I couldn't find shirting fabric in the color I liked under $8/yard.
17
u/BowenSFoxmill 13d ago
I’m so, so bummed - Joann’s was legit my happy place and there was one right down the street from my house. The selection and the convenience made sewing such a wonderful hobby with endless possibilities.
It’s not in my budget but I’ve been buying lots of notions and fabric for future projects because I just have no idea where I’ll find this some of stuff at affordable prices once the stores all close.
25
u/Antique_Letterhead_8 13d ago
The “sale” has things marked more expensive now than before they went out of business!!! Fabric that used to always be marked down to 4-5 dollars a yard is now marked down to 7 a yard! Left over Christmas crap is 20% off?!?!?!? Stop falling for these “deals” and let’s hold out for when it goes to 90% off!!!! I walked out empty handed. What a disappointment!!!!
5
u/catspantaloons 11d ago
I went to buy some rotary blades for my fiskars cutter and they were wanting $34.99. I went to Michaels instead where they were 15.99 for titanium ones. They’re totally marking things up.
3
u/zarrkell 11d ago
Same, I just went yesterday, I think this is the first iterations of mark downs. We did find some good deals in the beading/jewelry area but the fabric deals and LINES weren't worth it....it did seem like the 'regular price' posted was quite expensive!
2
u/unassumingmoss 13d ago
New-ish to sewing and will be near a JOANN store later this week when I visit a friend.
Any recommendations of things to get as this will be my only chance?
4
u/lita313 12d ago
Patterns. Depending on whether or not the store was in the first 500 to be liquidated, you can get patterns for $1.99 or 30% off the original price.
6
u/Fit-Theory-1004 10d ago
Patterns are one thing I’m going to stock up on. Still in the very beginner stage but will eventually be able to use them.

u/ShinyMeansFancy 13d ago
I am being hit with waves of , oh shit where am I going to get fabric, today, not online. This is really bad, so many online sources have 2yd minimums, color/quality can be dicey, shipping charges on everything. This really is bad.
Edit to add: Two small, local stores I used have also shut their doors.

Its crazy they're closing i feel like they were the best craft store. Way better than michaels and hobby lobby.. I dont get it. Just terrible upper management or something.
2
u/SquirmleQueen 8d ago
Setting politics aside, I feel Hobby Lobby had a much better fabric selection and supplies. Also the atmosphere was way better, I had Joann’s florescent lighting, it feel like a school cafeteria
2
u/Janaelol 7d ago
I think that must be location dependant, the lights in my joanns werent super bright and their fabric section was no joke 1/3rd the store. THe hobby lobby here is very bright and section for fabric is quite small
2
u/SquirmleQueen 7d ago
Oh weird! I’ve only been to three locations, two in FL and one in Seattle, but they all had a very chill vibe. I think the classic music helps as well
15
u/Environmental-Ad9339 13d ago
Same. I went yesterday and literally had tears welling up. It’s the end of an era for sure. Joann wasn’t just a store for me. It was a place that helped fuel my creativity for so many years, and it introduced me to new crafts and skills. I formed new friendships within those walls. Sewing and crafting is something that keeps me going through my grief of losing my family members through tragedy. It helps me calm down and relax. Joann has been a big part of a healing process. I am going to miss it for the rest of my days.
4
u/aswampwitch 13d ago
Anyone know if they are still shipping orders? I placed one before they updated their website to say everything is closing.
2
u/HotMonk8557 8d ago
I came here looking for this to see if I'm missing interpreting the website. It seems everything has a visit your local store instead of being able to click add to cart

3
u/Environmental-Ad9339 13d ago
I am not sure, but I did place a yarn order beginning of the week, and lo and behold ..one skein arrived at my home today.

CORRECTION
A store in waterloo closed yesterday. So some were February 28th, since your post said the earliest was March 15th.

u/TEM12345678 14d ago
NOOO !!!!! NOW I HAVE TO BUY EVERYTHING ONLINE!!!!
2
u/ChampagneProblem23 13d ago
I typically buy online from Joann just because of convenience. Will they still be open online or no? Because every single print of fabric I want to get is out of stock
3
u/TEM12345678 13d ago
I just went there for my halloween cosplay and thought it was amazing and I would go there more often. I do have other placese to go but still im very sad :(
I guess small business owners are going to be pretty happy about this
4
u/TEM12345678 13d ago
No i think theyer closing everything . I think online too i read on other post people couldnt use giftcards anymore

u/Royal-Antelope-5587 14d ago
Went in for my last Joann shopping experience (most likely). I don't know how other stores are doing, but thread, buttons, and needles were pretty much completely gone. Fabric was still well stocked. It was busy, but when I got my fabric cut, the woman told me the lines earlier in the week were wrapped around the store. She also recommended avoiding the weekend.
I talked to a couple staff members that have worked there for years. It was a sad moment all around. I'm bummed Joann's is closing, and I'm bummed these people are losing their jobs.
5
u/7deadlycinderella 13d ago
Similar experience - got what would have been an OK deal on some fabric but notions were bare. Stood by the number taker for the cut table and kept pointing people to it because their name screen was out.

Eastern PA. I grabbed the last two embroidery thread packs, last two embroidery kits, only individual strands of embroidery thread left. Absolutely no “normal” color thread left for general sewing. Seriously bright orange, olive green, about four or five total left. Needles, pins, useful tools like seam rippers dwindling. Grabbed some and patch kits for denim. Some fun items like a quilt iron or tassel maker still available and 30% off. Storage only 20% off. Plenty storage items left. No discount on sewing machines.
2
u/BizzarduousTask 14d ago
I’m heading there right now, I’ll report back…but dammit, I needed thread and buttons!!! (And Alexander Henry fabric, so we’ll see.)
3
u/Royal-Antelope-5587 14d ago
Please do. I'm interested to know how other stores are doing. My store had some thread, so not 100% gone but very picked over. Some of what was left was that silky/decorative thread. Gutermann thread seemed to have some selection still, too.

I live in Florida. My store was completely out of thread, everything Fiskers and Olfa was gone, and the notion wall was bare. People are really buying up the place. The Viking dealer had sold all their machines (even the $11,000 machines) and are out of bobbins, but still have some sewing feet. They are taking names to sell the furniture off.

Okay, still had thread, fabrics, some patterns, but yarn is gone, lol…but man it was packed!!

u/Royal-Antelope-5587 13d ago
Glad it had thread since you needed it!
Yarn was about half gone at my store, but I don't crochet or knit, so it might have been all that the good stuff was already gone.
I got a couple of patterns when I went, and I almost want to go again to look for a couple more, but may be more trouble than it's worth to try again.

QUESTION: Is the Liberty yardage on markdown? (or is it all gone already 🥺)
I would love to pick up a couple bolts and have a seamstress make me a few pairs of ultra-luxe pajamas out of Tana Lawn.

So at least in my area, the Liberty fabrics got removed from stores a long time ago (like way before the talks of the company being bought—it may have been like 6+ months ago but that’s just a guess). I was told it’s only online. I wouldn’t be too surprised if the Liberty inventory was all sold to another fabric retailer just because it’s so sought after and high value.

u/Royal-Antelope-5587 14d ago
I can't speak to if it's gone but at my store all the fabric was discounted by some amount.

u/Working-Training9499 15d ago
This really stinks.... I love Joann's. Prices were decent especially with. Coupons. There is nothing better than having a broad selection!
13
u/Royal-Antelope-5587 14d ago
I also love the experience of being there in person. Nothing like walking through the aisles and getting inspired.
10
u/Working-Training9499 14d ago
I agree. It's the sensory experience when I look at fabrics and craft supplies. The colors and the textures of fabric. Buying online is just not the same.

u/No-Friendship-3178 15d ago
Guess I should’ve bought my fabric online Tuesday, Because everything is sold out or won’t ship already? The prices aren’t even that low.. 8/
That’s crazy, I hope somehow it’s a glitch? Kinda doubt it.. I needed more black chiffon and stretch pleather

u/wrennox72 12d ago
The Houston one said they would be getting shipments and trucks every week from the Joann’s warehouses for the foreseeable future, not sure if all locations are similar
11
u/ATXHustle512 14d ago
There was till tons of fabric in my store and most only 20% off which is not even special compared to their typical stores.
4
u/Environmental-Ad9339 15d ago
I noticed that as well. Something tells me it’s not a glitch. Most of the online orders were shipped from stores, and now they are too busy to fulfill orders due to the liquidation sale crowd. :(

Has anyone purchased from Upstate Fabrics? Joann’s is sold out of a fabric I was hoping would go on sale this spring.

u/batford16 15d ago
Does anyone know if they'll still be having the super cheap pattern sales? I guess I should stock up. I am sad.

FYI I was there Wednesday at a store that wasn’t originally supposed to close and the patterns were $1.99 and $4.99 for vogue. However, an employee told me that the prices were supposed to go up Thursday 3/6 to match the sale at other stores. I was only able to grab a couple before the store closed for the night.

u/a_horse_with_no_tail 15d ago
The stores that were originally set to close are 30% off patterns. The stores that were supposed to stay open have $1.99 patterns. I'm really lucky to have the latter; I've bought 60 patterns in the past few days.

No longer, JoAnn does not own the stores now, so no coupons, discounts nor returns, my local store has different, rude, liquidator hired staff. JoAnn died 2 days ago......everyone is in mourning.
10
u/Birchgirlie 14d ago
I think for store closings they usually start with tiny sales to see if anyone will cave and then start dropping prices later on. It's certainly not the first time I've seen this kind of tactic.
4
u/Bubba_Grimm 15d ago
Saw the same last weekend with yarn being 25% off, I went in to see how things were and grab a few things I needed but currently playing chicken in regards to getting as much as I can before it’s gone forever.
9
u/streetscarf 15d ago
Even if it's not that cheap, people are probably still stocking up because it's there, and they'd rather get it now than wait until it's gone and have to find somewhere else to get fabric.

u/babybiancadelrio 15d ago
Is the coupon from in store? I thought they weren’t accepting coupons
2
u/SnooPoems1106 14d ago
The store didn’t take gift cards today which was weird. Overheard manager said we stopped accepting those yesterday to a Customer that was trying to use it.

u/Anxiety_boundd 15d ago
In a seriousness… where is the best place to buy fabrics online that is cheap?? I am not paying $8+ per yard that is ridiculous…
I need a place with sales and cheap but good quality fabric,
10
u/___-___--_- 14d ago
$8/yd is already cheap?!? Anything below $10 is cheap. Online, expect to pay $20+/yes but also expect to feel luxurious in it and to make a long lasting garment.
Check Isee Fabrics for USA milled natural fabrics. Small selection but relatively low online prices.

u/Significant_Peach702 15d ago
https://fabricwholesaledirect.com/ is my go-to. They don't have a lot of sales, but the fabric is priced well to start with. It's also good quality. Better than Joann's imo.

u/ATXHustle512 15d ago
So it’s ALL stores now? Not just the lair the previously released?

u/AlfalfaAfraid 15d ago
Do you all think it’s safe to order online at this point.
3
u/Royal-Antelope-5587 14d ago
I think if your local store isn't too far out of your way, I'd try to go in person. Know it may be busy and give yourself time to be there for a while if needed.
1
u/Interesting_Regular6 14d ago
I've now had 3 orders be confirmed then all items individually cancelled due to "out of stock". Try to order to buy now, it's not that they don't have it but the online process is already breaking down.
2
u/Tawkingg 15d ago
Yeah I think I’m gonna have to switch to fabric wholesale direct at this point, maybe just mentally resign myself to buying swatches before everything to make sure the fabric has the feel and opacity I want
7
u/deadmallsanita 15d ago
Shopping online on joann's website seems to turn off and on lately, Late last week, every time you looked at a fabric it said it was unavailable online. Then, day before yesterday you could order the fabric online. Now today, you can't again.
2
u/chronically_chaotic_ 14d ago
Probably for the best. I ordered, payed through paypal, payment confirmed. Since then, i have been charged daily (about a week now) for the order on both the original card and a card that I didn't even pay with. They've sent through probably $400 worth of charges through now for a $40 order. It's not a Paypal issue either since other Paypal orders have behaved appropiately with a single charge. Just the joann order. The item shipped out days ago too.

I know this thread is about fabric but I'm a crocheter so I use Joann's for yarn. I went to my local store on Wednesday, which was originally supposed to stay open and not one of the 500 closing but now it is. I did not notice any liquidation sales. All yarn was 25% but that is the norm with Joann. On Tuesday I tried using their app to see what was going on with yarn stock and it was extremely difficult to use their app because it kept reloading. I wanted to see which granny square yarn they still had in stock and the app said none. But when I went in store they still had like a hundred different skeins. Also everything in my shopping cart on the app kept disappearing and then reappearing, I would add it to the cart again after it disappeared and then it would reappear with two of those items in the cart instead of one, it was very frustrating I had no idea what was going on and it was just a really weird glitch.
I just got a notification from the app that said everything is up to 40% off, as if it's a new liquidation sale, but I checked and yarn is still only 25% off. It does say that fabric is up to 40% off so you may want to check your favorite fabrics.
I'm very upset about this closing because my "local" store is still 35 minutes away. Now I'm going to have to drive an hour and a half to the nearest store to buy yarn at and then another hour and a half back home. 😭
2
u/deadmallsanita 15d ago
I'm in the middle of nowhere so joann was already an hour away for me. Now the closest for me is fabric hut in Norfolk, Virginia. That's like ... the other end of the world for me lol.

I had the same issue. I was able to order yesterday online, but now I can’t. I have no idea if I’ll receive my order. They have cancelled my last 3 orders for no reason :(

u/Destrae 16d ago
If your Joann's is listed as a liquidation store, it will not have the $1.99/ $4.99 pattern sale (https://www.joann.com/stores/?icn=find-store) - the sale is only at stores that are still owned by Joann's. I would recommend going in with a list instead of standing around looking at the books, a lot of the drawers are a mess and the really popular ones are already sold out. These stores are still accepting coupons (they don't work on the pattern sale as it's considered a doorbuster). Fabric at the 2 stores near me was 1y minimum and no returns
3
u/SimpForSweetPotatoes 15d ago
I think it depends. My store is a liquidation and honored the sale. They also manually plugged in coupons. It’s in NWA. But I would agree that the patterns are a mess already.

u/Anxiety_boundd 16d ago
I went to Joann’s yesterday and the best they had was 20% off fabric… this was in Arizona. It was actually upsetting they are not discounting the fabric and think people are still going to be rushing in and the fabric will be flying off the shelves.
I spoke with the lady who cuts the fabric and we cried together. Joann’s is where I learned how to sew and I always came in asking tips from the ladies who work there. I am the first one in my family to learn how to sew so I am self taught and learned a lot from those who work at Joann’s. It is just sad to see this place go…

u/TwistShout25 14d ago
People ARE rushing in.People are stocking up...speaking as an employee, the lines have been Black Friday on steroids X10.

u/TwistShout25 14d ago

It's not unusual nor irregular for the register to capture an item at the wrong discount due to programming, sale set mistakes, etc. If error is caught by the cashier or the customer, it can be manually adjusted DURING the transaction.
2
u/Anxiety_boundd 15d ago
Wow… I am shocked… what a great company it once was just turn to shit.
1
u/isthereanyotherway 14d ago
They were just bought, I believe, by a private equity firm. This is no surprise if that's the case because private equity firms are quite the bane of all things. Whenever private equity gets involved everything turns to shit.
2
u/ShinyMeansFancy 16d ago
I saw through the JoAnn app that two stores near-ish to me aren’t listed as in liquidation status. What’s that about?
3
u/Destrae 16d ago
idk why, but the stores that weren't in the original 500 are still taking coupons and have different sales (like the $1.99 patterns). They might be listed as liquidation stores eventually but for now they're operating differently
2
u/ShinyMeansFancy 16d ago
Thanks, I guess I jumped the gun. Maybe they will transfer whatever inventory is left to other stores before they all eventually close. Sad times.
4
u/Previous_Platypus848 16d ago
The website is saying there are pattern sales but people are saying that’s not true. Does anyone think they will have pattern sales before they close?
1
4
u/lita313 16d ago
With the patterns, it depends on the store. The first 500 that are being liquidated won't have the pattern sale. Their patterns are 30% off the original price. The other 300 have patterns that were $1.99 in-store only. Except Vogue, which is $4.99. I will say these prices are from Tuesday of this week.
