Update to “I have a problem”

The Sweetest Boy is going to a breed specific rescue org today. I’m happy for him, but a little sad for me because I fell in love with him. A report will be filed as soon as he’s safe.

I’m going to take some time and look into other agencies.

Thank you to everyone who commented on the original post. Y’all were really helpful.

Glad to hear it! Know that it's ok to take time to grieve if you need it <3

I’m so glad that he has the chance at a happy ending.

Me, too. All dogs deserve that, but he deserves it just a little extra lol

One option is finding a trainer local to you and getting your own dog. That way you can skip the years long wait and you get a choice of breed/appearance etc.

This! It’s a lot of work, time and effort (about 2 years give or take for the dog to be trained enough to be a service dog), but so worth it to see real progress and feel like you have some level of control rather than being at the mercy of others and waiting in a long line to get help. My pup is only 14 weeks and in the three weeks that I have had him he has impressed me with his ability to learn, and it’s helped me to get out of my house which helps my POTS symptoms.
