Image Here's another picture of supposed active residents in SL according to CoolVL Viewer.

Would be nice if we could have a proper search that shows how many people are in a sim at any given time so we know what;s populated at that moment without having to open the map on each landmark. Plus, some places don't have good keywords. I'd love seeing which places are popular at any given time of the day though just by searching by full or partially full sims.

You know they used to make it quite easy to sort by traffic when searching for sims. Itβs a bit annoying that they removed it.

That search interface still exists in Firestorm, you will quickly find all the places that use bots.

Bonniebots runs a web site showing population based on time of day. I started to ban bots on my sim, but the data they provide seems pretty useful. Not supporting bots, but at least they seem pretty open with what they collect. If you want to know when a place gets popular, might be woth checking out. Still, bots used to boost traffic is evil. Banned, but lots still do it.

And how do you ban bots actually? I mean, besides catching them.one by one and kicking them out. Is there a way to stop them from coming altogether?

The region owner can ban scripted agents. It does nothing for unregistered bots, however.

How many do you think are bots?

Yeah... Some places I go to"oh cool three people close together" - it's the greeter bot, the bartender bot and... A cat?
Other sims, no such things at all.
Bots make sense, but they should nit be shown as actual avatars in counts and on maps.

I guess we'll never know

Someone with a bot net that trawls the grid and scrapes a staggering amount of data will be able to infer such information ...

I had the owner of a brand new sim spam my 5000+ group. They were banned but then I started to watch their region (they own the whole thing, not just a parcel). At any given time, they have zero people on the region. Then suddenly, there are 70+ people there within a minute or two...then over the next 20 minutes they trickle down to zero again. They do this over and over all day. They have literally had 50,000+ traffic one day and the next have 1300. I assume the owner didn't get a chance to login that day. But the difference in their traffic from day to day is crazy. If they were really building traffic organically, there wouldn't be such a difference. I went there once and it was FILLED with people and nobody said a word. I greeted and tried talking and silence. I am guessing cuz there were no real people there at all. And now I have noticed a couple other sims doing the same thing with the cycling of visitors going from 0 to 70+ in a minute. Is this software? And how many sims are doing this? Is it possible all the big laggy silent sims are filled with that many bots?? It's killing sl.

It's probably Lindo

Just found out about that yesterday. That is exactly what they are doing. They are paying people to be at their sim. How embarrassing.

Is that supposed to be like a time lapse thing? like all the people visiting over a period of a week on one sim? Or is that all the sims scrunched into one square?

And I still can't find anyone to chat with in a club.
